<p>The aim of the experiment was to compare 3 genetic groups, slaughtered at similar weights, to examine their productive and carcass traits and economic value. Three lines of the Pannon Breeding Programme, selected for different criteria, were examined in the experiment. Pannon Ka (PKa, maternal line) does were inseminated with semen of PKa, Pannon White (PWhite) or Pannon Large (PLarge, terminal line) bucks. The kits (PKa×PKa, PWhite×PKa, PLarge×PKa; n=60 in each genetic group) were weaned at 35 d of age and reared until 88, 83 and 79, respectively, when they reached similar body weights for slaughtering (2.8 kg). The weight gain of PLarge×PKa was the largest (51.0 g/d) and that of PKa×PKa was the smallest (47.2 g/d), while PWhite×PKa (41.8 g/d) was intermediate (P&lt;0.001). Difference was found in feed conversion ratio between weaning and the age of slaughter  PKa×PKa: 3.03 respect to PWhite×PKa: 2.75 and PLarge×PKa: 2.66; , P&lt;0.05). Dressing out percentage and ratio of hind part to reference carcass of PWhite×PKa, PLarge×PKa and PKa×PKa were 62.4 and 37.7, 61.8 and 37.5, 61.3 and 36.8%, respectively (P&lt;0.01). Results show that PLarge×PKa rabbits were able to exceed the average economic indicators compared to other groups. It may be concluded that the production performance of growing rabbits was affected by the adult weight, but the carcass traits were influenced by the computer tomography (CT)-based selection.</p>

This study was done to evaluate the effect of different floor types on growth performance and feed conversion ratio of weaned Mehsana goat kids for a period of 84 days. Twenty-seven weaned (3 months old) Mehsana goat kids having nearly identical body weights (10-12 kg) were randomly divided into three uniform groups having 9 kids (4 males and 5 females) in each group and reared on three different types of floors, viz., group A: katcha floor, B: bricks floor, and C: concrete floor. All the kids were reared under standard management system of goat rearing with strict hygiene and various parameters of production performance were recorded. Mean body weights in kids of groups A, B and C were 13.56±0.25, 13.60±0.26, and 13.87±0.27 kg, respectively. The corresponding average daily body weight gains were 35.89±2.74, 34.08±2.24, 39.23±4.10 g/day and feed conversion ratio 09.95±0.70, 08.99±0.52, 08.92±0.81, respectively. The differences among treatment groups were found non-significant for all three parameters. Incidences of disease occurrence and parasitic infestation were not noticed in kids of any group. It may be concluded that provision of different floor types, viz., katcha, bricks and concrete had no significant effect on growth performance, feed conversion ratio, disease incidence and parasitic infestation in the Mehsana kids. Further, from the study it may be inferred that economically weaker farmers may rear their kids on katcha floor with strict hygiene and attain the growth rate at par with other flooring systems.

An experiment was conducted to compare the productivity and profitability of commercial broiler, cockerel and cross-bred (F1 RIR ? × Fayoumi ?) chicks up to target body weights of 850, 1000 and 1250g. Two hundred sixteen birds of 3 genotypes each of 72 birds having 18 chicks in each replication were considered. Commercial broiler starter diet was fed to experimental birds ad libitum. Similar care and management were provided to birds of all treatment groups. Commercial broilers attained the target weights of 850, 1000 and 1250g at the age of 21, 24 and 28 days respectively whereas cockerels attained weights close to those targets at 56, 63 and 74 days respectively and in the case of cross-breds, the days were 63, 77 and 90 for those target weights respectively. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was best in broilers, followed by cockerels and cross-bred chicks respectively. The highest mortality (8.3%) was found in cross-bred group when reared up to target weight of 1250g. The mortality of broiler was 1.4% and no bird was died in cockerel group. Broiler was most profitable (21.11 Tk/kg live bird) at the target weight of 1250g whereas profit from cockerel varied little (21.78, 21.07 and 21.63 Tk/kg live bird against the target weights of 850, 1000 and 1250g respectively) amoung target weights. Therefore, appropriate weight to market these birds was at 850g to minimize the risk of diseases and other management works. Marketing of cross-bred chicks was most profitable (8.43 Tk/kg live bird) at 850g target weight and loss was incurred when rearing was continued up to 1250g. On the basis of results of productivity, it was concluded that commercial broiler, cockerel and cross-bred chicks could be reared upto 28, 56 and 63 days respectively to reach target weights close to 1250, 850 and 850g respectively to obtain maximum profit.? <em>This study aimed to determine the best dose of administration of marine fungal <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Nodulisporium</span> sp. KT29 metabolites to improve the production performance of marine culture of white shrimp. The experimental animals used were white shrimp <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Litopenaeus</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">vannamei</span> post larvae 12, which were reared in the sea using floating net cages with a stocking density of 700 post larvae/net. Experimental design used was a completely randomized design consisting of 3 treatments with 3 replications; control without the administration of <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Nodulisporium</span> sp. KT29 metabolites, dietary of feed containing <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Nodulisporium</span> sp. KT29 metabolites at doses of 20 mL/kg of feed and 40 mL/kg of feed. The results showed that survival rate, absolute length growth, weight gain, daily growth rate and feed conversion ratio in treatment groups were better than the control (P&lt;0.05). The administration of marine fungal <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Nodulisporium</span> sp. KT29 metabolites at a dose of 20 mL/kg of feed could improve the production performance of white shrimp cultivated in the sea with survival rate, daily growth rate and feed conversion ratio: 66.61±6.94%, 20.18±0.39 %/day and 3.20±0.22, respectively.</em>

This study was conducted to compare productive performance between purebred Thai indigenous black-bone chickens and their reciprocal crossbreds. Four different genetic groups were studied: 2 purebreds (Chee Fah and Fah Luang) and 2 crossbreds (Chee Fah ´ Fah Luang and Fah Luang ´ Chee Fah). The results showed that Fah Luang ´ Chee Fah had the significantly highest body weight at birth and 20-week of age, while the lowest values were found in Chee Fah ´ Fah Luang (p less than 0.05). For feed conversion ratio, Fah Luang ´ Chee Fah had greater potential than purebreds and Chee Fah ´ Fah Luang (p less than 0.05). Additionally, Fah Luang ´ Chee Fah grew faster than the others (p less than 0.05). The productive performance of crossbred chickens was more favorable than purebreds. Considering crossbreds, Fah Luang ´ Chee Fah showed greater performance than Chee Fah ´ Fah Luang. Therefore, Fah Luang had more potential for using as a sire than Chee Fah.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different compound probiotics on the performance, cecal microflora, and intestinal immunity of laying hens. A total of 270 Jing Fen No.6 (22-week-old) were randomly divided into 3 groups: basal diet (CON); basal diet supplemented with 6% fermented feed A by Bacillussubtilis,Lactobacillus, and Yeast (FA); and with 6% fermented feed B by C. butyricum and L. salivarius (FB). Phytic acid, trypsin inhibitor, β-glucan concentrations, and pH value in fermented feed were lower than the CON group (p < 0.05). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) in the experimental groups was decreased, while albumen height and Haugh unit were increased, compared with the CON group (p < 0.05). Fermented feed could upregulate the expression of the signal pathway (TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB) to inhibit mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (p < 0.05). Fermented feed promoted the level of Romboutsia (in the FA group) Butyricicoccus (in the FB group), and other beneficial bacteria, and reduced opportunistic pathogens, such as Enterocooccus (p < 0.05). Spearman’s correlations showed that the above bacteria were closely related to albumen height and intestinal immunity. In summary, fermented feed can decrease the feed conversion ratio, and improve the performance and intestinal immunity of laying hens, which may be related to the improvement of the cecal microflora structure.

Sets of twin lambs from both sexes representing 11 genetic groups were fed either concentrate (HE) or roughage (LE) diets from weaning to 32 kg liveweight. One lamb from each set received the HE diet while the other received the LE diet. Data on average daily gain (ADG), relative ADG (RADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were analyzed to test for the presence of a genotype × diet interaction; this effect was significant for RADG. Although the ranking of the genetic groups with respect to RADG depended upon diet, the group ranking highest on HE was also the highest on LE. The set of twins × diet interaction was not significant for ADG or RADG. The results support the present practice in test stations of feeding lambs concentrate rations to identify their potential for growth and basing growth comparisons on a within genetic group basis. AbstrakIkan Patin (Pangasius pangasius) merupakan ikan air tawar yang memiliki nilai ekonomis yang tinggi. Untuk membantu mempercepat pertumbuhan selain dengan menggunakan pellet, ikan patin juga dapat diberikan pakan alami seperti keong mas (Pomacea canaliculata Lamarck), bekicot (Achatina fulica) dan siput air tawar (Lemnaea javanica). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian pakan jenis keong-keongan yang berbeda terhadap pertumbuhan, kelangsungan hidup, dan konversi pakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertumbuhan terbaik terdapat pada perlakuan A, yaitu dengan pemberian keong mas. terbaik kedua pada perlakuan B (pemberian bekicot) dan yang paling rendah pada perlakuan C (pemberian keong air tawar). Selanjutnya untuk tingkat kelangsungan hidup terbaik terdapat pada perlakuan A dan B yaitu sebesar 95.24%, dan yang terendah perlakuan C sebesar 90.47%. Rasio konversi pakan pada perlakuan A yaitu 3.45, sedangkan pada perlakuan C sebesar 7.44.Kata kunci: ikan patin; keong mas; bekicot, siput air tawar; pertumbuhanAbstractPangasius catfish (Pangasius pangasius) is a freshwater fish that has high economic value. To accelerate growth in addition by using pellet, this catfish can also be given live food such as the golden snail (Pomacea canaliculata Lamarck), edible snail (Achatina fulica), and freshwater snail (Lemnaea javanica). This study aims to determine the effect of different types of snail feeding on growth, survival rate, and feed conversion ratio. The results showed that the best growth was found in treatment A, by giving the golden snail, the second best growth in treatment B (by giving edible snail) and the lowest growth in treatment C (by giving freshwater snail). Furthermore, the best survival rate is in treatment A and B which is equal to 95.24%, and the lowest in treatment C (90.47%). The aim of this work was to examine the possibility of using different poultry breeds for meat production in extensive systems, concerning their slaughter traits. Total of 200 birds of two genotypes were used in this trial: fast-growing hybrid Ross 308 and pure breed White Rock. Chicks were raised indoors until the age of 4 weeks and subsequently they were enabled to access the range. The trial lasted for 13 weeks. At the end of the trial, 10 male and 10 female chicks per breed were sacrificed for the evaluation of slaughter traits - dressing percentage, yield and share of carcass parts. It was established that both genotype and sex significantly affected carcass traits while genotype affected production traits. Chickens of the Ross 308 hybrid had higher body weights, better feed conversion ratio and higher mortality rate. Chickens of the Ross 308 hybrid had dressing percentage compared to the White Rock breed, while the male chickens had higher dressing percentage compared to the female ones. Chickens of the Ross 308 hybrid had a significantly larger weight and share of breast meat, whereas those of the White Rock breed had a larger share of drumsticks and thighs. A significant influence of the genotype was determined on the amount of abdominal fat in the carcass. Chickens of the White Rock breed had a significantly lower fat content compared to the Ross 308 hybrid, which essentially makes them the genotype which is more suitable for the extensive fattening longer than 10 weeks.
