Abstract Background Sutureless ophthalmic procedures are becoming more commonplace, reducing opportunities for ophthalmology residents to learn microsurgical suturing techniques. There is no standard curriculum in place to address this gap in clinical training among ophthalmology residency programs. Objective The aim of this study was to design, implement, and evaluate a preliminary microsurgical suturing curriculum for ophthalmology residents using Kern's six-step approach for curriculum development as a guideline, and the principles of distributed practice and guided, self-directed practice. Methods We designed a faculty-led teaching session on fundamental microsurgical suturing techniques for all 15 ophthalmology residents from Yale University over one academic year. Suturing skills were evaluated, followed by a guided teaching session, 30 days of self-directed practice time, and a re-evaluation of skills. The residents were evaluated through a written knowledge assessment and practical skills assessment. The residents also evaluated their skill level before and after the teaching session and practice period through written Likert-scale surveys. Data were evaluated in Excel using descriptive statistics and the paired t-test. Results After the session, postgraduate year 2 (PGY-2) residents felt more confident in recognition and use of surgical instruments (p < 0.01). PGY-3 residents felt less confident in their knowledge of microsurgical suturing after the session (p = 0.02). PGY-4 residents felt they were better able to identify different suture types after the session (p = 0.02). All residents improved on the written knowledge assessment (p < 0.001) and in all categories of the practical skills assessment (p < 0.001). Conclusions Implementation of a faculty-led microsurgical suturing training session, followed by 1-month of practice time, significantly improved residents' knowledge and practical application of various microsurgical suturing techniques that are necessary for performing common ophthalmic procedures.

Attitude of students-psychologists to the phenomenon of «death».The article discusses the attitude of students- psychologists to social phenomenon «death». The views of prominent personalities on this phenomenon are analyzed, it is emphasized that this event has a purely individual impact on the picture of the world, the life of any person. The importance of the attitude to death as an inevitable event in the training of future psychologists is emphasized. The effectiveness of the psychologist, in this particular type of work – psychological assistance to those who have experienced the loss-death of a loved one, depends not only on his knowledge, practical skills, competence, but also, perhaps primarily on his psychological readiness for this type of work, his attitude to the phenomenon of «death». Unfortunately, practice shows that among practicing psychologists, there is a group that refuses to work with clients who have survived the death of loved ones and offer to see another psychologist or their psychological help is not effective, but they are well versed in the appropriate amount of knowledge, practical skills on this issue. The reason is the topic of «death» for the psychologist itself, which is traumatic, and the term itself is too stressful. From this follows a clear mismatch between the huge demands of clients for this type of psychological care and the psychological readiness of the psychologist for this type of work. This problem is urgent, relevant, has great practical significance, its solution will provide better training of psychologists in providing quality psychological assistance to those who have experienced a crisis of loss – the death of a loved one, to meet the demand for this type of psychological services. It is this problem has become in our field of vision and led to the choice of research topic. We set a goal to investigate the attitude of student psychologists to the social phenomenon of «death» (personal aspect). In the course of the study we conducted: psychodiagnostic techniques that showed a negative attitude towards death and fear of it. Which involves systematic, individual work and the formation of the most favorable for the individual attitude to the rubbish to its inevitability.

Linguistic and Cognitive skills play an essential role in the development of communication, language and literacy. Therefore, their assessment of school children is crucial since it allows the child's cognitive and linguistic profile characterisation, according to the school year she attends. This study intended to describe the adaptation and validation process of the instrument – Cognitive and Linguistic Skills Assessment Protocol. This Protocol was adapted from a Brazilian (Portuguese) version to a European Portuguese version to evaluate the cognitive-linguistic skills of school children (1st to 5 th grade). It consists of two versions, the collective version and the individual version. The collective version consists of writing, arithmetic, auditory processing and visual processing skills; the individual version consists of reading, metalinguistic, auditory processing, visual processing and processing speed skills. After adapting the linguistic aspects (morphosyntactic and semantic), a pilot study was carried out to verify whether the instrument was well-adapted and easy to understand for the study’s target population. The sample consisted of a class for each school year, excluding children with special educational needs or intellectual/auditory deficits. A total of 75 children were evaluated: 12 children of the 1 st grade; 18 of the 2 nd grade; 15 of the 3 rd grade; 15 of the 4 th grade; and 15 of the 5 th grade. The results showed that the protocol was, in general, well adapted. The instrument was then applied to a larger sample (2 classes per school year) in a total of 157 children (without special educational needs or intellectual/auditory deficits), and the data were processed in the statistical program IBM SPSS. In general, the mean values were the expected ones in all subtests of the Protocol Collective Version and some tests of the Individual Version, from the 1 st to the 4 th grade, but not the 5 th grade, which showed non-expected mean values. This work provided the possibility for developing the subsequent phase of the study, where percentiles will be calculated to obtain the standard/normalised values to classify children’s performance as standard, above average or lower than expected.

Personal definitions and structural aspects of the concept of finite limit of a function at one pointWe describe and interpret the individual definitions of a group of noncompulsory secondary education students related to the concept of finite limit of a function at one point in terms of structural aspects compiled and synthesized from prior research. These aspects are the interpretation of the limit notion as an object or a process, its exact or approximate character, the algorithms and practical skills for its calculation, its reachability and its possibility of being exceeded. Among the results we point out the richness of meaning from these definitions by the not reachable and not exceedable attributed character of the limit, and also by the dual consideration of the limit as an object or process.Handle: http://hdl.handle.net/10481/23475Nº de citas en WOS (2017): 3 (Citas de 2º orden, 3)Nº de citas en SCOPUS (2017): 2 (Citas de 2º orden, 2)

The article emphasises the development of motives and needs of a medical student as one of the most relevant issues in motivation psychology for a future doctor. The importance of this problem is beyond a shadow of doubt, since the issue of the development of motives and needs is closely linked with the development of the individual on the whole. The motive can also be defined as the concept, which in a generalizing form says that there are many predilections. It activates the body, stimulates its behaviour and is aimed at determining what is needed. In the process of human activity, the personality develops and the environment in which the person lives is transformed. Needs are the driving force of personality development. Motives (predilections), needs and goals are components of the human’s motivational sphere. Considering the motivation of educational activity, it must be emphasized that the concept of motive is closely related to the concept of purpose and need. Motivational sphere includes: the need for learning, the importance of learning, the motive to learn, purpose, emotions, attitude and interest. The ability to create situations which promote the interest in the teacher as well as in learning. The more active are the teaching methods, the easier it is for the students to get interested. One of such methods at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry is the realization of a programme of practical classes for highly motivated students, whose goal is to develop practical skills related to the future profession of the dentist during the course of preliminary training. Nowadays requires not only to improve methods in which the principle of mere repetition is basic and leads to intellectual and physical overload of students, but by means of finding new, more effective methods of educational and cognitive activity of students, to form their professional motivation. The article is devoted to the questions of motivation of the future doctor and the formation of his needs for constant self-improvement during practical classes and the individual work beyond the requirements of the programme.

Abstract Background Standardized residency training is an important part of post-graduation medical education for medical students in China, and the graduation examination is a necessary part to test the effect of residency training and an important measure to guarantee the quality of residency training. This study analyzed the graduation examination results of standardized residency training in Zhejiang Province in 2020. Methods This study calculated the pass rates for the practical skills examination and written examination for 5555 examinees and analyzed the relationship between examinees' demographic characteristics and pass rates. Results The pass rates for practical skills examination and written examination were 91.8% and 96.5%, respectively. Gender, age, education, and type of organizations were significantly associated with the pass rates. Examinees who retook the examination were less likely to pass the practical skills examination (AOR = 0.266, 95% CI = 0.189-0.377) and the written examination (AOR = 0.043, 95% CI = 0.025-0.074) than examinees who took the examination for the first time. If an examinee did not pass the practical skills examination initially, he or she was less likely to pass the written examination (AOR = 0.172, 95% CI = 0.120-0.249) Conclusion The pass rate of graduation examination of standardized residency training was not only influenced by the individual characteristics of the examinees but also related to the level of training hospitals and lead teachers. Therefore, it is necessary to take comprehensive measures to further improve the system of standardized residency training.

Summary The text deals with neurophysiological and kinesiological developmental principles associated with the early development of young children as the fundamental prerequisites for physical education in the aquatic environment. Swimming in infancy and early childhood using the developmental principles and understanding of individual variability represent enormous potential to create a positive attitude of the child to exercise in aquatic environments. We believe that the experience with these basic tasks can play a key role in future exercise habits and swimming literacy of the individual. Parents attending infant swimming courses led by an instructor acquire practical skills and deeper insight into principles of their child's motor learning. All activities in the aquatic environment at an early age should allow transfer of child’s experiences to preswimming education and result in full swimming literacy.
