Even though various work organization forms and instruments exist for efficient manufacturing pro-cess and economic efficiency achievement in manufacturing enterprises, the issue is still topical which of the factors in production management – human resources or technologies is the main impellent in performance achievement in manufacturing enterprises. Research aim is to find out whether ap-proach based on teamwork is applied in performance achievement. Different level managers of eight manufacturing enterprises (total 21 managers) from Liepaja City (Latvia) and suburban area were questioned. Research results prove that in manufacturing enterprise performance characteristics of teamwork can be noticed in general. The main feature of teamwork is a common goal, and the involvement of employees is essential to its achievement. In a wider scope, it is understood not only by the involvement of employees in decision-making but also as the involvement of employees in operational planning and strategic issues. Research aim is to find out whether the involvement of employees in decision-making, goal setting and planning is inherent in manufacturing enterprises. According to a survey of 268 different level employees of 25 manufacturing enterprises in Latvia, it was found out that involvement of all employees in the decision-making process is not perceived by the enterprises` performance and strategic planning, and the involvement of employees in decision-making and goal setting can only be seen within the department. Purpose Industry 4.0 envisions a future of networked production where interconnected machines and business processes running in the cloud will communicate with one another to optimize production and enable more efficient and sustainable individualized/mass manufacturing. However, the openness and process transparency of networked production in hyperconnected manufacturing enterprises pose severe cyber-security threats and information security challenges that need to be dealt with. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach This paper presents a distributed trust model and middleware for collaborative and decentralized access control to guarantee data transparency, integrity, authenticity and authorization of dataflow-oriented Industry 4.0 processes. Findings The results of a performance study indicate that private blockchains are capable of securing IoT-enabled dataflow-oriented networked production processes across the trust boundaries of the Industry 4.0 manufacturing enterprise. Originality/value This paper contributes a decentralized identity and relationship management for users, sensors, actuators, gateways and cloud services to support processes that cross the trust boundaries of the manufacturing enterprise, while offering protection against malicious adversaries gaining unauthorized access to systems, services and information.

Numerous German companies experience a slow down in team work two to three years after the implementation. Therefore, stability of work organization gains importance as a strategic goal. Based on a literature review on team development a model to describe team development as a basis for the definition of team maturity is presented in this paper. Furthermore, a classification of team tasks in addition to a chosen model of team development lead to a model to explain the relationships among process organization, team tasks and the level of social-psychological development. The underlying hypothesis are finally formulated. Following, a company case study with 28 teams has been conducted to research the tasks within a flow production line and to assess in 48 interviews with members of 14 teams the achieved level of team maturity.

This paper describes the new approaches the German automobile industry has developed during the last four years. It deals with product strategy, production concepts, work organization, industrial relations and technology. In the automobile industry, team concepts and groupwork have been the most important innovations in increasing efficiency. There are two fundamentally different approaches to team work The concept of ‘structurally conservative groupwork’ is a more or less modernized version of Taylorism. The job descriptions of production workers remain narrow, there is not much work autonomy and no reprofessionalization. By contrast, ‘structurally innovative groupwork’ builds on the specific assets of the German industrial order: the tradition of craft work (Facharbeiter), the strong focus on qualified, self-directed work, and the consensus orientation in the field of industrial relations.

Logistics informatization construction is vital to development of manufacturing enterprises. Choosing appropriate logistics informatization construction mode can make manufacturing enterprise save investment under the premise of ensuring their business requirements. Firstly, the paper divided manufacturing enterprises into process manufacturing enterprises, discrete manufacturing enterprises and hybrid manufacturing enterprises in accordance with the organization way of the production process; according to the scale they can be divided into micro-manufacturing enterprises, small and medium sized manufacturing enterprises and large (including group) manufacturing enterprises. Then summed up the main logistics informatization mode and generalized the construction mode of logistics informationization as follows: purchasing commercial software mode, enterprise independent development mode, outsourcing development mode, leasing mode and cooperative development mode. Finally studied different types of manufacturing enterprises should adopt what kind of construction mode of logistics informationization.
