Nowadays, the construction cost is very high with the use of crucial material such as cement, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate. This study includes the use of Pulverized fuel ash waste materials as partial replacement of cement and fine aggregate. Industries in India produce a large amount of waste such as fly ash, Bottom ash, Pond ash, etc., that can be useful in the partial replacement of all raw materials due to their different properties. Therefore, we study the number of useful research documents in this field and try to improve with locally available waste material can be proven economical as well. The objective of this study was to determine the environmental impacts of open dumping of pond ash around a thermal power plant.

Abstract. To overcome the shortage of natural resources for the production of concrete, many waste materials are used to replace the raw materials of concrete. In this way, bottom ash is one of the major industrial wastes which shall be used as the replacement of materials in concrete production. It shall be used to replace the materials either up to one-third. This review brings out the evaluation of the industrial waste material which can be repeatedly used as a substitution for concrete as fine aggregate. This paper reviewed the use of industrial waste i.e., bottom ash as fine aggregate in the concrete. The parameters discussed were physical, chemical, fresh, and hardened properties of the concrete with partial replacement of bottom ash. By reviewing some of the research papers, concluded that 10-15% replacement of fine aggregates is acceptable for all the properties of concrete. High utilization of natural sources -gives the pathway to produce more industrial wastes which are responsible for the development of new sustainable development.

The utilization of thermal power plant waste ashes (fly ash and bottom ash) in concrete as partial replacement of cement and sand could be an important step toward development of sustainable, user-friendly and economical infrastructure. For this purpose, different concrete mixes were considered at constant binder content of 300kg/m3 and differ water-to-binder ratio (w / (c + f) mainly as 0.5 , 0.55 and 0.6. Also six wide range of fly ash replacement levels (f/c ratio) namely 0, 0.11, 0.25, 0.43, 0.67 and 1.0 were introduced in the experimental scheme. The 3-days to 180 days compressive strengths of FACB was measured at interval of 3, 7, 28, 56 and 90 days. This study also presents a relationship between the ratios of split tensile (ft) strength to compressive strength (fc). It is applicable to lean concrete having consideration of curing period at early age (3day) to long term (180days). The results of this investigation are principally important, because the comprehensive information on the dependability of the relationships has not been available for (w/c+f) and bottom ash combination. The investigational results of this work are indicated that waste-Bottom ash with the regular sizes can be used successfully as a fine aggregate in fly ash concrete (FAC). The Study also reflected in finding constant “k” by ACI code equation for fly ash and bottom ash mix concrete. It has obtained between 0.337 - 0.504. This could be useful in finding splitting tensile strength when concrete carrying fly ash and bottom ash.

The management of solid industrial waste is of big global concern nowadays. The majority of industries are not interested in the treatment and safe disposal of industrial waste due to its high cost involvements, causing environmental and other ecological impacts. The disposal of waste foundry sand is of prime importance due to the big volume produced from the metal casting industries all over the world as well as the waste bottom ash produced from the thermal power plant. The possibility of substituting natural fine aggregate with industrial by-products such as bottom ash and foundry sand offers technical, economic and environmental advantages which are of greater importance in the present context of sustainability in construction sector. Concrete is the most important engineering material and the addition of some other material may change the properties of concrete. Studies have been carried out to investigate the possibility of utilizing the board range of material as partial replacement material for cement and aggregate in the production of concrete. Natural fine aggregate are becoming scarcity because of its huge utility in various constitution process the possibility of substituting natural fine aggregate with industrial by product such as waste foundry sand and bottom ash in concrete. This study investigate the effect of waste of bottom ash and foundry sand is equal quantities as partial replacement of fine aggregate in 0%, 20%, 30%, 40% on concrete properties such as compression strength and split tensile strength. This study also aims to encourage industries to start commercial production of concrete products using waste bottom ash and foundry sand.

Crusher sand or Manufactured sand (M-Sand) obtained from stone aggregate quarries is widely used as fine aggregate in concrete to avoid the depletion of natural river sand. To avoid air and land pollution due to direct dumping of wastes in open land area from granite processing industries and thermal power stations, the behavior of reinforced concrete beam without waste (RC beam) and with waste (RCW beam) materials like granite powder (10%) and bottom ash (10%) as combined partial replacement for M-Sand was carried out. The parameters like load carrying capacity, ductility, energy absorption capacity and stiffness degradation were evaluated. The behavior of all the parameters of both the beams was similar and there was slight decrease (10%) in strength parameters due to increase in fine pore particles. Hence, the granite powder and bottom ash can be used as partial replacement for fine aggregate in building constructions

Concrete is a material synonymous with strength and longevity and plays a vital role in the construction activity. Scarcity of natural sand and its fast rising cost have paved way for use of bottom ash, a residue being collected from the thermal power stations, as substitute for sand. Recent research shows that the mechanical properties of concrete containing bottom ash as a partial replacement of fine aggregate is suitable for construction. The various parameters involved are different percentage of bottom ash and grades of concrete. This present experimental study is made on chloride induced corrosion using accelerated corrosion test (ACT) and related durability properties such as water absorption & porosity, water sorptivity and rapid chloride penetration test (RCPT). Compressive strength test is performed in order to ascertain the mechanical property of bottom ash concrete. The above tests were conducted on the concrete specimens and the results were found comparable with the control concrete up to 20% replacement of bottom ash. Utilization of bottom ash in concrete becomes more significant in cost-saving and reducing the quantity of landfill, thus providing an economical and ecological way of conservation of natural resources.

Now-a-days energy planners are aiming to increase the use of renewable energy sources and nuclear to meet the electricity generation. But till now coal-based power plants are the major source of electricity generation. Disadvantages of coal-based thermal power plants is disposal problem of fly ash and pond ash. It was earlier considered as a total waste and environmental hazard thus its use was limited, but now its useful properties have been known as raw material for various application in construction field. Fly ash from the thermal plants is available in large quantities in fine and coarse form. Fine fly ash is used in construction industry in some amount and coarse fly ash is subsequently disposed over land in slurry forms. In India around 180 MT fly is produced and only around 45% of that is being utilized in different sectors. Balance fly ash is being disposed over land. It needs one acre of land for ash disposal to produce 1MW electricity from coal. Fly ash and pond ash utilization helps to reduce the consumption of natural resources. The fly ash became available in coal based thermal power station in the year 1930 in USA. For its gainful utilization, scientist started research activities and in the year 1937, R.E. Davis and his associates at university of California published research details on use of fly ash in cement concrete. This research had laid foundation for its specification, testing & usages. This study reports the potential use of pond-ash and fly-ash as cement in concrete mixes. In this present study of concrete produced using fly ash, pond ash and OPC 53 grade will be carried. An attempt will be made to investigate characteristics of OPC concrete with combined fly ash and pond ash mixed concrete for Compressive Strength test, Split Tensile Strength test, Flexural Strength test and Durability tests. This paper deals with the review of literature for fly-ash and pond-ash as partial replacement of cement in concrete.

Geopolymer is a type of amorphous alumino-silicate cementitious material, synthesized by the reaction of an alumina-silicate powder with an alkaline solution. The geopolymer technology has recently attracted increasing attention as a viable solution to reuse and recycle industrial solid wastes and by-products. This paper discusses the performance of geopolymer mortar comprises of multiple blended ash of palm oil fuel ash (POFA), pulverized fuel ash (PFA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) by replacing ordinary Portland cement. Fine aggregate obtained from the ceramic waste was used to partially replace normal sand in the mixture. The concentration of alkaline solution used was 14 Molar. The fresh mortar was cast in 50x50x50 mm cubes geopolymer mortar specimens and cured at ambient temperature for 24 hours. The effects of mass ratios of alkaline solution to multiple blended ashes and percentage of ceramic aggregate as sand replacement on compressive, flexural and tensile strength of mortar were examined. The results revealed that as the multi blended ash (GGBFS: PFA: POFA) mass ratio increased, the compressive strength of geopolymer mortar is increased with regards to the ceramic aggregate properties.

In Vietnam, a large amount of coal bottom ash (CBA) is being discharged from thermal power plants and has been making serious environmental pollution. It is essential to utilize the CBA to reduce environmental pollution. So, this paper presents a series of experimental studies in the laboratory using CBA as a partial replacement of aggregates in concrete pavement for rural roads. In mixing concrete, the CBA is utilized to replace 15, 30, and 100% aggregates. The design of the composition must achieve the technical requirement of M-30 grade of concrete. A total 351 of specimens were tested on workability of fresh concrete, abrasion, compressive strength, and flexural tensile strength in order to achieve the technical requirement of concrete pavement for rural roads. Based on the experimental results, in order to achieve the required compressive strength, An Khanh CBA concrete uses more content of cement and water than control concrete; Cao Ngan CBA is only utilized to replace 15% aggregates, and Cao Ngan CBA concrete also uses more cement and water than control concrete. It also shown that the amount of water and cement content depend on types of CBA and the water amount and cement content of CBA concrete are larger than those of control concrete. The advantage of mixture CBA concrete is abrasion, and flexural tensile strength achieved the value as per the technical requirement.

Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is, mainly in Europe, widely used construction material. It has an optimal combination of bulk density, strength and thermal conductivity coefficient for load-bearing and non-load-bearing structures of civil facilities. The production technology is based on a mixture of ground silica sand, lime, cement, gypsum, aluminium powder and additives. The grinding of sand is most often carried out in a wet way, and the sand sludge is consequently used in production technology. The aim of the experiment was verification of the effect of partial replacement of sand with the alternative raw materials in sand sludge on the rheology of the mixture. This parameter determinates how the modified mixtures affect the sludge pumpability. As a reference the consistency of the sand sludge of the normal production density of 1.65 g/cm3 was compared to the sand sludges of different density (1.60, 1.70 and 1.75 g/cm3) and with a fresh aerated concrete (FAC) mixture of 1.60 g/cm3. Then the sludges were modified by 30 % of alternative raw materials (recycled glass, coal slag, FBC ash, FBC bottom ash) as the partial weight replacement for sand. This partial replacement resulted in water/solids ratio adjustment which recommended value is 0.47 for recycled glass and coal slag, 0.59 for fluidized bed combustion (FBC) bottom ash and for FBC fly ash it is 0.70.
