The social and political situation driving ongoing changes in the Polish Army is responsible for a new perspective on viewing the competences of a leader in a military organization. The article presents and discusses the issue of professional competences in the context of professional military service. It provides an analysis of selected competence models. The essence of competence is the focus, but at the same time the specificity of the organization—the army—is pointed out. Emphasis is placed on the importance of managerial competences in managerial functions as filled by officers. A characterization of the Polish Army officer training and professional development system is also provided.

The equipment training simulation training system is an important technical means to train the combat support ability. The current equipment security training system has many defects, such as distribution, heterogeneous, decentralized, and cannot meet the actual combat state of the integrated training requirements. In an information platform, the integration of existing subsystems become an urgent need to solve the problem. The development of information systems technology makes it possible to build this unified platform. This paper uses the construction of equipment support simulation training platform as an example to discuss the construction of collaborative operation environment, the component operation of platform resources, the digital management of platform and the dynamic construction of platform, and give the corresponding solutions.

Rommel’s approach to command and his relationship with the German army’s doctrine remain subjects of lively debate. Analysis of his career prior to 1940 shows he was a highly respected figure at the centre of the army’s officer training system. Consideration of his approach during the crossing of the Meuse in May 1940 demonstrates consistency with his actions at Caporetto in 1917. Far from proving his unorthodoxy, however, comparison of this approach with the army’s official manuals suggests Rommel acted fully in accordance with doctrine. This highlights a tension within that doctrine between independence of action and wilfulness.

The “horseman of hope,” Brazil's “undefeated column”—much is known about the legendary Luis Carlos Prestes and his rebel column's march through thirteen Brazilian states in the 1920s. Indeed, legends are made of such stuff. Roughly one thousand rebellious federal soldiers and state policemen pushed their way through 25,000 kilometers of Brazil's isolated interior. Forced marches day and night helped them elude capture and defeat from late 1924 until they chose exile in Bolivia in early 1927. Soon the column's fame and impact reached worldwide. Even today, for example, the study of Prestes's tactics is still a part of Red Army officer training in China.
