This paper presents learning analytics as a mean to improve students’ learning. Most learning analytics tools are developed by in-house individual educational institutions to meet the specific needs of their students. Learning analytics is defined as a way to measure, collect, analyse and report data about learners and their context, for the purpose of understanding and optimizing learning. The paper concludes by highlighting framework of learning analytics in order to improve personalised learning. In addition, it is an endeavour to define the characterising features that represents the relationship between learning analytics and personalised learning environment. The paper proposes that learning analytics is dependent on personalised approach for both educators and students. From a learning perspective, students can be supported with specific learning process and reflection visualisation that compares their respective performances to the overall performance of a course. Furthermore, the learners may be provided with personalised recommendations for suitable learning resources, learning paths, or peer students through recommending system. The paper’s contribution to knowledge is in considering personalised learning within the context framework of learning analytics.

Gao Wen Jyu of southern opera has been disappeared and present versions include Zhen Zhu Ji (Yi Yang tune), Gao Wen Jyu of Southern Pipes (Quan tune), Gao Wen Jyu of Pu Xian (Hsin Hua tune) and Revival After Death of Shui Yun Pavilion (Qing Yang tune). Among others, Zhen Zhu Ji is the most influential one. The plots such as “Window Meeting” and “Zhen Zhu Mi Lan” are not only the selected Zhe Zi operas for the later generations, but also the adapted texts of local operas. Main plots of “story of Gao Wen Jyu” are below: “Zhen Zhu Mi Lan”, “Revival After Death to Appeal for Justice” and “Master Pao’s Judgment”. Zhen Zhu Ji and “version of Pu Xian” include “Zhen Zhu Mi Lan” and “Master Pag’s Judgment”. “Version of revival after death” includes “Revival After Death of Yu Chen” and “Master Pao’s Judgment”. “Version of Southern Pipes” does not include the above. Hence, it shows the uniqueness of “version of Southern Pipes” in the evolution of “story of Gao Wen Jyu”. Varieties of plots result in the richness of “story of Gao Wen Jyu”. The process of spread reveals flexibility and regionality of local common systematic tunes and varieties of operas.

This study will treat four versions of Gao Wen Jyu as the subjects to significantly compare and analyze the original stories and difference and similarity of related work. First, it explores present versions to recognize the evolution of the story “Gao Wen Jyu”; secondly, it precisely compares “plots” and “singing and talking” of the versions to analyze the inheritance and innovation of “story of Gao Wen Jyu” in different common systematic tunes and varieties of Chinese operas. It, on the one hand, clarifies the relationship and origin of different versions of “Gao Wen Jyu” and, on the other hand, probes into cultural characteristics of “time” and “region” of operas; finally, it attmpets to reconstruct the positions and values of common systematic tunes in different regions in the evolution process of “Gao Wen Jyu”.

The possibilities offered by the technological tools for the production of text greatly affect the conception we have of writing and authorship. In this article, we aim at discussing a dialogical conception of writing and authorship, by analyzing a virtual written interaction made by students of a public university in the state of São Paulo. This discussion is anchored in the theoretical assumptions of Mikhail Bakhtin and his contemporary interlocutors about the theoretical categories of author and dialogism, as well as on studies about the impact of the use of technological tools in textual production on the relationship with writing and the authorship, especially in virtual learning environments. We conclude that writing in the Virtual Learning Environment occurs in a dialogical process between students, teacher(s) and other texts, occurring convergences or divergences when students take the place of author who organizes voices.KEYWORDS: writing; authorship; dialogism; virtual learning environment.

PurposeOne of the most significant threats of COVID-19 in the world is the closure of universities, schools, training courses and even companies and organizations. In such a situation and with the free time that has arisen, this threat of education closure can become a golden opportunity for learning and progress in virtual education. E-learning uses information technology (IT) to distribute knowledge and information for training and education. Also, cloud computing is a technology utilized in the IT domain. It can be employed in performing e-learning. Therefore, the main goal of this study is to assess the impact of cultural characteristics, economic situations, skills and knowledge on the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era.Design/methodology/approachCloud-based e-learning system (CELS) provides all e-learning requirements like software and hardware resources to promote conventional e-learning technologies. The CELS stands on several factors of diverse aspects that have been of high significance in CELS success. So, these systems must be checked to analyze their significance rate and successfully carry out their effectiveness. On the other hand, these days, the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) changes our daily lifestyles. Therefore, the present investigation provides a new model investigating the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era. Also, an online questionnaire was used to gather the data. The content validity of the questionnaire was obtained by applying the opinions of ten experts from e-learning specialists. The collected data are analyzed using LISREL and Smart PLS software.FindingsThe results from the path coefficient and the sample t-test have implied that skills and knowledge positively influence CELS in the COVID-19 era. In addition, the relationship between cultural characteristics and CELS in the COVID-19 era has been positive and significant. The relationship between the economic situations and the CELS in the COVID-19 era is positive and significant.Practical implicationsThe proposed model helps managers get a big picture of CELS necessities and more effectively in the COVID-19 era. This research has a unique impact on universities to develop an e-learning platform to facilitate the education process in the COVID-19 era. It provides guidelines for educational institutions to effectively implement the learning management system to facilitate students' education.Originality/valueCELS are getting increasingly essential to offer training courses more efficiently in educational institutions. Although the intersection between cloud computing and e-learning has increasingly grown in both practical and academic contexts, few studies on the impact of cultural characteristics, economic situations, skills and knowledge on the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era. This paper explores the ignored but critically important subject of CELS. This paper's main contribution is to present a new and integrated model containing the essential aspects of the development and success of CELS in the COVID-19 era. The proposed framework comprises cultural characteristics, economic situations, skills and knowledge aspects simultaneously, as well as sub-criteria denoting each element.
