In recent years, attention has been increasingly paid to social-, environmental-, and ecology-related issues in the areas of diverse business operations. The concept of sustainable development of enterprises is an attempt to integrate a diverse set of requirements for the development of companies in the long-term future. The concept, which is set in a contradictory context of economic, social, and environmental aspects, is an attempt to balance fundamentally divergent requirements and aspirations. Sustainable enterprise development can be a source of competitiveness, provided the opportunities related to it are identified and implemented in a proper way. The research objective of this study is to diagnose the relationship between the company’s orientation towards the implementation of sustainability assumptions, the degree of implementation of the objectives of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, as well as the creation of value in a sustainable enterprise. The survey was conducted on a sample of 165 FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) sector enterprises. The results indicate the existence of a positive correlation between the variables analysed in the surveyed enterprises. Entrepreneurs guided by sustainable development pursue economic and non-economic values and have a more comprehensive set of appropriate measures necessary to create value in a sustainable enterprise, which consists of achieving economic, ecological, and social goals.

This article examines the relationship between corporate social responsibility performance (CSR.P) and market trading volatility (MTV) provoking by the release of the non-farm employment payment-reports (NFP) the first Friday each month in the USA. It also discusses the trading opportunities involved in such as volatile environments. Actually, we consider the interaction between the social performance (for environment, employment and community activities) and the financial and trading performance than would be the case for an accumulated functionality in NFP releases. In general, social performance returns are negatively related to trading returns; so, the relatively poor financial and market trading reward (profit), offered by socially responsible ethical ETFs trading the NFP reports, is in accordance to their good social performance regarding employment and environmental aspects. This could be changed if these ethical ETFs incorporate into their arsenal of trading tools a number of CSR.mtv functions (utilities) discussed in this article. Impressively, we find also that considerable bizarre returns are obtained by funds, holding a portfolio of socially least unethical ETFs, involved in short-term or intraday speculations. In this domain, the complex relationship between social, financial and market trading performance, during the NFP “psychological time”, offers great trading opportunities.

Using Chinese listed firms' data from 2008 to 2012, we explored, on the basis of upper echelons theory, whether and how top management team (TMT) age heterogeneity affects corporate social responsibility (CSR) and if TMT interaction and TMT education moderate this relationship. Results revealed an inverted U-shaped relationship between TMT age heterogeneity and CSR, in which TMT interaction played a moderating role; however, TMT education did not moderate the relationship. These results are helpful and significant for the understanding of CSR strategy, and for the improvement of human resource management.

Regulations on corporate social responsibility, are instruments that fill the space between the codes of law and tradition, and morality. In this way the ethics of the company builds customer confidence, investor interest and pride in employees. Business activities in a global world result in many threats associated with loss of reputation of the company, exposure to the accusation of unethical actions. In this situation, conducting a long-term CSR strategy can become a tool for prevention and building competitive advantage. Among the tools used by organizations, to build socially responsible business the most popular are: eco-labelling, social marketing programs, including the ethics programs for staff and corporate governance. It should be noted that a huge responsibility for the effectiveness of programs and tools for CSR rests with the managers.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility on the Financial Performance of banks in the service sector of Pakistan. The data is obtained from the annual reports issued by the banks during 2008-2012. To verify the relationship between EPS, ROA, ROE, Net Profit and CSR regression models are used. The results show that there is lack of CSR in Pakistan and the regression model shows that there is positive relationship between profitability (EPS, ROA, ROE, and Net Profit) and CSR practices. The Financial institutions which implements CSR in their operations earn more profit for the long term periods.

The previous research on the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and business performance produced mixed findings. Scholars exerted the mixed findings are largely influenced by several factors and contexts where different markets, type of companies, industries, and countries would show different results. On that basis, this study examines how the dimensions of objective environment influence the relationship between CSR dimensions and the business performance of Takaful agencies in Malaysia. Malaysia was chosen as the country because it is among the largest Takaful contributors in the world. Stakeholder and contingency theory are used to analyze the hypothetical relationship between the variables. Questionnaires were distributed to Takaful agency managers who operate their businesses in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Selangor state. About 211 of them participated in this study. The empirical findings suggest that economic and ethical activities have a direct influence on Takaful agencies’ business performance. Further results imply that while environmental dynamism influences business performance directly, environmental complexity significantly moderates the relationship between legal, philanthropy, and business performance. This research considered only the direct effect of CSR activities and the moderating effect of environmental dimensions on business performance with only the agency managers’ perspective studied. It adds new insights to the CSR and Takaful literature by revealing the relationship between the dimensions of CSR and business performance in the Takaful context, and sheds light on how governing authorities and Takaful operators should implement the CSR strategy and activities to make the industry successful in Malaysia and around the world, as Takaful businesses are heading towards becoming a global industry.

Of late, the concept of corporate social responsibility has gained prominence from all avenues. Across the globe, most of the prominent leading corporations seem to have realized the importance of being associated with socially relevant causes as a means of promoting their brands. Corporate have started moving from what is our share mode to what is our environmental impact and how much we are accountable mode. Nearly all leading organizations in India are involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in areas like education, health, livelihood creation, skill development, and empowerment of not just the weaker sections of the society but the society in large. This paper examines the concept of few notable firms sacrificing profits in the social interest within the environmental realm especially for children. Although the analysis of goodwill and quality of different initiatives within the umbrella of CSR is challenging, an attempt can be made to fulfill the social responsibility. The authors have tried to take four Indian firms who are exclusively into a robust CSR strategy, where child rights are being respected and protected. These programmes aim at holistic development of the concerned. The objective, sector, modus operandi and the scope of the programmes are investigated. Also a small effort has been made to understand the needs of children in India, scope of the corporate in fulfilling those needs and facilitate long term change in the lives of the marginalized children. A brief analysis regarding the best practices by the authors suggests that integrated empowerment is needed for sustainable development in the society. Moreover protecting the rights of children should be integral to every CSR strategy. Corporate can impact the access to the necessities, which are essential for survival and development of children in many ways.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and explore the policy concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a focus for sustainable development. To this end, it develops and explores the implications of a distinction between CSR as a marketing strategy and a more sustainable long-term commitment to changes in organizational culture and also society. Design/methodology/approach This a conceptual paper which develops a policy research framework for examining the CSR rationale as well as general concept as applied to the “plastic bags” public awareness campaign in the Malaysian case study. On this basis, its central inquiry approach is to develop and explore the distinction between surface and deep modes of CSR policy implementation as also related modes of social learning. Findings The findings from the conceptual inquiry recognize that corporations which fail to apply a deep rather than a surface commitment to their own CSR polices will sooner or later be judged on that basis by their customers as well as external stakeholders. Although CSR policies will always involve a corporate marketing focus, this is sustainable only if framed by a long-term organizational commitment to accountable change. Originality/value The paper makes, develops and further explores a basic accountability distinction between surface and deep modes of CSR as a management commitment, corporate policy implementation and related processes of corporate cultural change. This links to the paper’s associated innovation of linking CSR as both internal organizational learning and a larger sustainable development process of social learning.

Firm innovation creates an informational asymmetry between the firm and outside stakeholders. Since CSR activities have been shown to reduce asymmetries and risk we surmise that firms use discretionary CSR activities to reduce the asymmetries from innovation. We study an innovation intense industry (technology) and find results that support the hypothesis that firms use CSR to signal long term viability of innovative activities.

Purpose This study aims to introduce a five senses concept (sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell) that enhances corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy. It sheds light on the effective CSR senses, which are required by firms for better performance and sustainable development. Design/methodology/approach The main approach for collecting information for discussion is the literature review focusing on topics such as CSR strategy, CSR activities, sustainability and sensemaking. Findings While searching the literature, little was found on sensemaking and very little was found on CSR five senses, a gap which needs to be looked at. A gap was also found between what firms do and what are expected from them to deliver to society in terms of CSR activities which puts sustainability at risk. Practical implications Firms are expected to improve performance when these five CSR senses are incorporated in their strategy and activities. This approach makes firms work effectively to meet different stakeholders’ needs and wants internally and externally; hence, a better satisfaction level can be achieved and sustainable development is likely to be better secured. Originality/value The idea of CSR senses has been neither thoroughly discussed nor sufficiently developed as a five CSR senses concept in the previous studies. This study contributes to the CSR knowledge and practice in many venues by offering a conceptual model that suggests important senses of effective CSR strategy, hence, bridging the CSR gap that might exist in strategy and practice. Therefore, researchers and practitioners are expected to benefit from this study that can result in better CSR control and sustainable development.

The topic of making investment and choosing the most effective trends of investing money is becoming more acute for today’s organizations due to numerous crisis economic events and accompanying difficulties with capital reproduction. In researching options of investment special attention is paid to strategic aspects of alternative financial and technological opportunities of putting in resources and forecasting the horizon of recovery of the investment. Apart from this, the research interest is aroused by the impact of basic lines of enterprises’ investment on the level of their economic results together with trends of providing long-term sustainable development. The authors analyzed cases of the biggest Russian industrial organizations, identified correlation between investment flows within the frames of the organization and the effect of investment on the basis of consolidated accounting of these companies. The article analyzes some investment projects of the NMLK Group and the PAO Sibur, for instance, introduction of innovation model of making forecast concerning breaking-down of critical equipment and the system of corporate social responsibility. The authors made recommendations on prioritization of aspects of socially important trends of investment for today’s big companies, which could lead to raising efficiency of organizations’ work and thus to principles of sustainable development
