Climate change has been shown to directly influence evapotranspiration, which is one of the crucial watershed processes. The common approach to its calculation is via mathematical equations, such as 1985 Hargreaves-Samani (HS85). It computes reference evapotranspiration (ETo) through three climatic variables and one constant: RA (extra-terrestrial radiation), TC (mean temperature), TR (temperature range) and KR (empirical coefficient). To make HS85 more accurate, one of its authors proposed an equation for KR as a function of TR in 2000 (HS00). Both models are 4D and their internal behaviours are difficult to understand, hence, the data driven applications prevalent among experts and managers. In this study, we introduce an innovative research by trying to respond to two questions. What are the relationships between TC and TR? What are the internal patterns of HS hyperspace (4D domain) and the changes in ETo possibilities of the two models? In the proposed approach, thresholds for the four variables are utilized to cover majority of the agroclimatic situations in the world and the hyperspace is discretized with more than 50,000 calculation nodes. The ETo results show that under various climatic conditions, the behaviour of HS is nonlinear (more for HS00) leading to an increased uncertainty particularly for data driven applications. TC and TR show patterns useful for regions with less data.

Climate change is becoming increasingly unpredictable as the climate dries up, protected areas grown with vegetables are growing every day, but farmers in this area are facing a number of problems, including pests of green cucumber lice (Aphis gossypii), the common thrips. (Thrips tabaci), the common red spider (Tetranychus urticae). Scientists around the world are conducting studies to propose solutions. The use of material that allows the passage of a larger amount of UV rays inhibits the development of aphid colonies. The dual application of Lecanicillium longisporum for the simultaneous suppression of green lice of cucumbers and powdery mildew has been demonstrated. Beauveria bassiana preparations are highly effective against tripe. For a future assured with high quality vegetables, it is necessary to develop as diverse methods as possible to control pests, so that each farmer can choose the method that suits him, both technologically and economically. The methods should be applicable in the most diverse areas of the earth. We must learn to model not only favorable climatic conditions but to create a healthy and viable ecosystem, so the greenhouses will generate profit for the farmer, fresh and tasty products for us.

This chapter challenges typical interpretations of the Dust Bowl and puts the disaster into a global frame, linking the past to the present. In so doing, the common roots of contemporary and past developments and struggles are revealed. The Dust Bowl was one spectacular instance of a global problem of soil erosion associated with capitalist colonial expansion. While the official interpretation suggests that agriculture suited for a humid region was imported to an arid region, precipitating the crisis, contemporaneous accounts illustrate how much larger the crisis was, tied up with specific social and economic developments that imposed new socio-ecological relations upon peoples of the world and upon the land irrespective of local climatic conditions. Ultimately, the common denominators across the world—from North to South America, Australia to Africa, and Southeast to East Asia—were not climate and geography, but capitalism and colonialism.

Adaptation strategies to the climate change include measures that can be taken to take account of the new climatic conditions. This paper aims at assessing the effects of climate change on environmental sustainability. This sustainability constitutes a major problem in many countries and regions around the world that experience industrial pollution, degradation of land as well as natural disasters caused by the global warming. The paper shows that adaptation strategies are often parallel strategies that can be integrated simultaneously with the management of natural resources. They can make resources more efficient and resilient to climate change. The paper shows that reducing the carbon footprint by more than 50 percent by 2030 and eliminating it by 2050 might be a viable solution how to tackle the climate change and support the environmental sustainability.

Globally, citrus fruits are grown over an area of 11.42 million ha with 179.0 million tons production. China with 82.7 m tons production is the major producer of citrus fruits followed by Brazil (18.14 m tons) and India (10.53 m tons) (FAOSTAT, 2019). All commercially used scion and rootstock cultivars belong to the genus Citrus, except kumquats, Fortunella spp., and Poncirus trifoliata, which are used as rootstock only all over the world. Worldwide citrus cultivars divided into four, reasonably-well-defined horticultural groups: the Sweet oranges, the mandarins, the grapefruits and the pummelos and the common acid members. The true or ‘biological’ citrus, including species of Citrus (C. reticulata, C. maxima and C. medica), share certain characteristics, however, these are clearly differentiated according to the morpho- taxonomic traits. Hundreds of different citrus cultivars are available. Many varieties were chance finds from natural populations, and not the product of intentional breeding efforts. Other varieties in common use have originated from planned citrus hybridization and breeding efforts from worldwide. Most of the readers will be well acquainted with the cultivated types of Citrus scion and rootstocks. This chapter provides ripening season information for worldwide, farmers/gardeners have had success with citrus in many different regions of world where tropical/subtropical climatic conditions occur.

In Vietnam, environmental pollution in big cities is becoming a pressing problem. The problem of overcrowding of transport in big cities, which has been very difficult, now adds a serious situation of pollution that is increasing to worrying levels. What a challenging problem that is posing on the shoulders of managers. The paper presents the realities of environmental pollution, especially air pollution from vehicle emissions. Besides, also initially offering solutions to reduce pollution caused by urban transport in Vietnam.

The annual rainfall in Taiwan is actually 2.6 times than the average number in the world. There are as many as 2,500 mm of rainfall per year, but because of the geographical and climatic conditions,which leads to the fact that even if the rainfall is abundant in Taiwan, the water consumption of the people living in the island area is really far below the global average. A large part of the rainfall follows violent rain caused by the deterioration of the environment. The delay of the rainy season and the increase of the intensity of the typhoon have caused to suffer from flooding every year in Taiwan.This study takes “WIND LION PLAZA “ as the object. How do private enterprises “Kinmen” in the offshore islands where resources are more scarce implement “water saving measures and resource reuse” promoted by the government? In addition, it also includes the purpose and expectation of the implementation of this policy by the enterprise. Furthermore, how to implement the resource cycle and the management level between the government and the enterprise is to achieve sustainable development of resources, and do corporate social responsibility to achieve sustainable development of resources.

Reference evapotranspiration (ET0) in the hydrological cycle is one of the processes that is significantly affected by climate change. The Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) is universally recognized as a region that is sensitive to climate change. In this study, an area elevation curve is used to divide the study area into three elevation zones: low (below 2800 m), medium (2800–3800 m) and high (3800–5000 m). The cumulative anomaly curve, Mann–Kendall test, moving t-test and Yamamoto test results show that a descending mutation occurred in the 1980s, and an ascending mutation occurred in 2005. Moreover, a delay effect on the descending mutation in addition to an enhancement effect on the ascending mutation of the annual ET0 were coincident with the increasing altitude below 5000 m. The annual ET0 series for the QTP and different elevation zones showed an increasing trend from 1961 to 2017 and increased more significantly with the increase in elevation. Path analysis showed that the climate-driven patterns in different elevation zones are quite different. However, after the ascending mutations occurred in 2005, the maximum air temperature (Tmax) became the common dominant driving factor for the whole region and the three elevation zones.

This research is based on the theoretical framework of risk in rural agricultural economy where farmers consider climate change as idiosyncratic risk of production. Under the inter-temporal household consumption smoothing model, this paper considers crop diversification as an ex ante measure to tackle permanent income shock from climate change. This paper examines empirically whether crop diversity is affected by climate change and how this diversity will respond to different climate scenarios. Negative binomial regression models are estimated from a nationally representative sample of 11,389 farmers across Bangladesh and 30-year average of seasonal climatic variables to find the effects of climatic variables on crop diversity. This paper finds that crop diversity is climate-sensitive and this diversity in different locations varies with climatic conditions. This research unveils structural instability between different single cross-sectional models to simulate the effects of climatic variables on crop diversity. It also finds that increases in mean annual temperature by [Formula: see text]C by 2030 and [Formula: see text]C by 2100 have resulted in 26.40% and 149.83% increases in crop diversity compared to its baseline of 2010, respectively. The effects of rainfall scenarios on crop diversity are much lower compared to the effects of temperature.
