A quaternary polymer (HGP) was prepared by the free-radical polymerization of acrylamide, acrylic acid, maleic anhydride functionalized β-cyclodextrin (MAH-β-CD), and N-(3-methacrylamidopropyl)-N, N-dimethylnaphthalen-1-aminium chloride (NAP). It was found that host–guest behavior occurred most effectively at a molar rate of NAP and CD with 1:1, which exhibited better solubility than hydrophobically associative polymer. Moreover, the as-prepared polymer has superior salt tolerance, shear resistance, and viscoelasticity due to host–guest strategy. More importantly, the HGP solution simulates the distribution of formation water in the Bohai SZ1-1 oilfield has good rheological properties at 120 °C. All results show that the proposed polymer could be a competitive candidate in oilfield applications such as fracturing fluids, displacement fluids, and drilling fluids.

Polymer, SRP-2-1, was synthesized by micellar polymerization and characterized by 1H NMR. Salt tolerance and viscoelasticity tests verified that the salt resistance of SRP-2-1 was promoted by the synergistic effects of oxyethylene groups, sulfonate, and hydrophobic chains. It is suggested that the structure of SRP-2-1 became more compact with increasing salinity. Furthermore, a mechanism is proposed as to why SRP-2-1 solution has excellent salt-resistance properties. The experimental results indicate that, because of the good shear resistance properties, the polymer SRP-2-1 could be used as an alternative in many fields, for instance in fracturing fluids, enhanced oil recovery, and sewage treatment.

Propylmethyl cellulose monoester of maleic acid (MAPMC) was synthesized with Propylmethyl cellulose and Maleic anhydride. A modified polyether-type superplastizer (PES) was prepared from ally polyoxyethylenether, Maleic anhydride, acrylic acid and MAPMC through a free radical polymerization. MAPMC and PES were recorded by FTIR. The fluidity of cement paste were investigated, the hydration process of cement for PES were characterized via Hydration Heat Tester. The results indicate that PES superplastizers can improve the fluidity of mortars and more capable of preventing slump loss, the hydroxy group of PES has no negative impact on cement hydration .

In the reaction of dianions with poly(methyl methacrylate), only an insignificant amount of insoluble crosslinked product is obtained. If, however, the concentration of grafting dianions approaches that of ester groups, the amount of poly(methyl methacrylate) which may thus be crosslinked becomes quite significant. Dications, too, can bring about crosslinking of only an insignificant number of poly(methyl methacrylate) chains. Carboxylic groups in poly(acrylic acid) react with dianions and dications in an anhydrous medium similarly to ester groups. On the other hand, in the presence of a cocatalytic amount of water dications are more readily bound to carboxylic groups, forming a covalent bond. The relatively highest efficiency was observed in the bond formation between dication and the poly[styrene-alt-(maleic anhydride)], both in an anhydrous medium and in the presence of H2O.

A serious of alkyl polyoxypropylene sulfonate surfactant was synthesized. The O/W interfacial activity of alkyl polyoxypropylene sulfonate surfactant was investigated. The results showed that the interfacial tension of Indonesia crude oil/formation water could reach ultralow level (10-3mN/m order of the magnitude) under weak alkali (Na2CO3) concentration from 0.4wt% to 1.0wt% with C16PO8S, C16PO10S, C18PO8S and C18PO10S alkyl polyoxypropylene sulfonate respectively. These surfactants showed good interface activity and salt and divalent cation tolerance ability. Combinations of alkyl polyoxypropylene sulfanate homologies with different carbon chain length could significantly improve the interface activity. The IFT of Indonesia oil/formation water could reach ultralow interfacial tension under alkali free conditions. The combination of alkyl polyoxypropylene sulfonate surfactant with petroleum sulfonate could improve the salt tolerance ability of formula.
