Rapid growth of nanotechnology is one of the most quickly emerging tendencies in cancer therapy. Gold nanoparticles roused a distinctive interest in the field, due to their incomparable light-to-thermal energy conversion efficiency, and their ability to load and deliver a variety of anticancer drugs. Therefore, simultaneous photothermal (PTT) and photodynamic (PDT) cancer therapy is available by the role of the thermal agent of the gold nanoparticle itself and the drug delivery carrier for photosensitizer (PS) transport. In this review, the physical, chemical, and biological properties of gold nanoparticle, which can promote PTT and PDT efficiency, are briefly demonstrated, and we highlight recent progression in the development of PS-containing gold nanocomposites for effective cancer therapy.

:Gold nanoparticles possess unique mechanical, chemical, photo-optical and biological properties and have been an interesting field of research on life sciences. The research studies produced new nanodevices and nanotechnology-based biosensing, diagnostics therapeutics, and targeted drug delivery systems. In this review, the unique potential aspects of gold nanoparticles/ nanoformulations/ or devices related to diabetes management have been discussed together with the recent patent on the gold nanoparticles developed for diabetes management. The first part of this review will focus on recent strategies for the treatment of hyperglycemia and its management with the help of gold nanoparticles and the second part of the review focused on recent patents on gold nanoparticles useful in the diabetes management. Gold nanoparticles have proved themselves useful in diabetes therapeutics and diagnostics. Due to the high surface area, and low toxicity, gold nanoparticles have become a unique aspect of the delivery approach. The main issues that need to be covered are the biopharmaceutics, biocompatibility, and potential clinical applications.

ABSTRACTWe present a simple, novel procedure to selectively deposit gold nanoparticles using pure water. It enables patterning of nanoparticle monolayers with a remarkably high degree of selectivity on flat as well as microstructured oxide surfaces. We demonstrate that water molecules form a thin ‘capping’ layer on exposed thiol molecules within the mercaptan self-assembled layer. This reversible capping of water molecules locally ‘deactivates’ the thiol groups, therewith inhibiting the binding of metallic gold nanoparticles to these specific areas. In addition, we show that this amazing role of water molecules can be used to selectively metalize the patterned gold nanoparticle arrays. Employing an electroless seeded growth process, the isolated seeds are enlarged past the percolation threshold to deposit conducting metal layers.

Cancer is one of the health concerns in modern societies. The application of nanotechnology in medical sciences has created new possibilities for the diagnosis, imaging and the treatment of tumors in humans. The present article reviews the application of marine-based gold nanoparticles in diagnosing and treating cancer. The main data were collected from research article on the application of different marine-based gold nanoparticles in detecting and imaging cancer cells as well as in drug delivery system in treatment of cancer. Chitosan is the most used marine natural compound used to fabricate gold nanocomposites and the most reported application of this type of nano-composites is related to drug delivery system. Despite the excellent anticancer potential of different marine natural products, less studies have been conducted on the use of their compositions with gold nanoparticles in cancer therapy than other materials. Moreover, most reports available in this filed are related to their application as a drug delivery system not anticancer drug. In general, there are still challenges and limitations to the use of nanoparticles in medicine, it is hoped that in the near future nanoparticles will create a dramatic revolution not only in oncology but also in medicine.
