Super-paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs)/gelatin (gel)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanoparticles were designed and synthesized by the co-precipitation method and further modified with gel and PVA. These nanoparticles were used for the removal of Cu(II) and Zn(II) from aqueous solutions. The adsorbents were rich in different functional groups for chemisorption and showed effective adsorption properties. The adsorption of Cu(II) and Zn(II) on the SPIONs/gel and SPIONs/gel/PVA materials were investigated with respect to pH, adsorption kinetics, and adsorption isotherms. The adsorption data was fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips models at the optimum pH 5.2 (±0.2) over 60 min; SPIONs/gel showed maximum adsorption capacities of 47.594 mg/g and 40.559 mg/g for Cu(II) and Zn(II); SPIONs/gel/PVA showed those of 56.051 mg/g and 40.865 mg/g, respectively. The experimental data fitted the pseudo-second-order model, indicating that the process followed chemical monolayer adsorption. In addition, the SPIONs/gel/PVA showed better stability and Cu(II) adsorption efficiency than SPIONs/gel.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) of sizes 5 to10 nm were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. They are coated with silica nanoparticles using sonication method. The SPION was produced under the optimum pH of 10, peptized in acidic medium and redispersed in water. The silica nanoparticles were produced through the Stöbermethod. Sonochemical coating of silica nanoparticle on the SPION was successfulat a pH value lower than 5. Otherwise, at higher pH value (but lower than point zero charge (PZC)), the SPION were found to be unstable. Fast hydrolysis of triethoxyvinylsilane(TEVS) shows that silica forms its own particles without coating onto the surfaces of the SPION. Under optimized experimental condition, sonochemical method of coating silica nanoparticles onto the SPION can be considered as an alternative for effective and prompt method that rely mainly on pH of the suspension.

γ-FeOOH nanorods an adsorbent for As(V) and As(III) removal was prepared by a chemical co-precipitation method. The maximum adsorption capacities at pH6 for As(V) and As(III) were 63.75 and 88.99 mg/g, respectively, higher than those of Fe2O3, Fe3O4... The adsorption data accorded with Freundlich isotherms. At the study pH, for arsen, the adsorption equilibrium was gained after 90 min. Kinetic data fitted well to the pseudo-second-order reaction model. The adsorption of γ-FeOOH for As (V) and As(III) could be competed by some other ion such as sulfate, ammonium and chloride. The high adsorption capability and good performance on other aspects make the γ-FeOOH nanorod a promissing adsorbent for the removal of As (V) and As(III) from the groundwater.

AbstractSuperparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (IO-MNPs) coated with natural polymers, starch (IO-S MNPs) and dextrin (IO-D MNPs), were synthesized by modified co-precipitation method. IO and hybrid-IO-MNPs were characterized by XRD, SEM, HRTEM, FT-IR spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and zeta potential (ZP). IO-S MNPs and IO-D MNPs have IO core-shell structure with core of 10.8 nm and 13.8 nm and shell of 7.5 nm and 5.9 nm, respectively. The efficiency of the hybrid IO-MNPs for sorption of

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are synthesized through the co precipitation method by using the new generation base diisopropylamine (DIPA) which electrostatically complexes with the iron ions, reduces them and subsequently caps the nanoparticles.
