The Covid-19 induced economic crisis has significantly affected almost all businesses from nearly every sector, causing severe financial problems, lack of cash assets, and decrease of revenues. In this context, the economic entities were forced to look for adjustment and rescue solutions of their activities. One possible solution for the recovery and reorganization of economic entities’ activities is demerger. This paper evaluates the impact of demerger upon the sustainable development of economic entities in terms of economic efficiency and financial performances. To achieve this goal, a statistical analysis of profitability ratios before and after the demerger, as well as a structural analysis of 268 demerger projects for the April 2012–April 2021 period, were performed. The results attest there are no significant differences between the ex-ante and ex-post financial performances. However, demerger seems to have a positive effect upon analyzed companies helping them to overcome economic hardships, rethink their business strategies, and continue their activity in the medium and long-term time horizon.

At the United Nations Conference in Stockholm in the early 1970s, the idea of sustainable development was mooted. It became a global phenomenon in the year 2000 when the United Nations (UN) declared the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) with over one hundred and eighty-nine member states and about twenty-three international organizations. With the expiry date of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) came in vogue. The SDGs as a global project could only be attained through joint efforts of all sectors of human life, religion being one. In human history, religion plays significant developmental roles, hence a strong factor in attaining developmental goals. Islam in particular could not be left out in any developmental project, as it is not only a religion and but also a way of life. Indeed, the maqasid ash-shari’ah are meant for all-round development and protection of human life – religion (Din), life (Hayat), procreation (Nasl), Property (Māl) and Intellect (cAql). This study is designed to specifically relate the institution of zakat in Islam to attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with particular reference to Nigeria as a country. Historical, descriptive and exegetical methods are adopted for this purpose. The paper therefore concludes that zakat can be a veritable tool for achieving the SDGs if properly harnessed, monitored and utilized for the purpose it is meant.

The article explores the role and contribution of intellectual work to the process of ensuring and improving the main aspects of human life in accordance with the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Intellectual work is considered as an important resource for the creation of high-quality, innovative production, which provides for solution of important global problems of sustainable development. As part of a multilateral integrated approach, the impact of intellectual work results on the achievements of SDGs is researched. It is determined that the SDGs are interconnected and reinforce each other in the process of achievement, which is why their results are also comprehensive, that is, the result of improvements in the field of one goal is the way to achieve another one. A reflection of the dominant role of intellectual work in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is the ninth SDGs – innovation and infrastructure. The development of technologies, creation of innovations and breakthrough solutions are crucial in the context of achieving the SDGs, and, accordingly, intellectual work, intellectual property and innovations are increasingly becoming socially significant and, due to the increased importance, need developing and implementing the policy of the integrity of scientific research along with protecting their results. Prospect for further research in this direction can be the issues of enhancing the efficiency of intellectual workers and increasing the opportunities to use the potential of intellectual activity for the further development of society.

The article discusses the issues of environmental management in logistics based on the concept of sustainable development through the introduction of environmental logistics. The problem of human survival in conditions of limited natural resources against the background of the deterioration of the natural conditions of human existence has led to the creation of the concept of sustainable development, which requires taking into account environmental and social factors in all spheres of human life. Logistics as a field of practice makes a negative contribution to the state of the environment. Highlighted the contour of ecological logistics in the framework of the concept of sustainable development. On the basis of the basic rules of logistics, the rules of ecology were formed, which reflect the need for ecologization of logistics. The evolution of the development of ecology is investigated, the features of the ecologization of logistics at each stage of the development of logistics are highlighted. Ecology has been actively developing in recent years and has several promising research areas, one of which is reverse logistics, which focuses on managing the reverse flows of material resources. The essence, tasks and place of reverse logistics in the hierarchy of environmentally oriented directions have been determined. The evolution of logistics chains corresponding to the stages of logistics development has been investigated. Closed logistic chains as the basis of reverse logistics are considered, the composition of the flows forming them is determined.

As a new species in the financial ecosystem, internet finance has significantly impacted traditional finance and has improved the diversity and ended the long-term stability of the financial ecosystem. From the perspective of the interaction between the ecological subjects of the Internet and traditional finance, this study examines the influence of internet finance on the sustainability of the financial ecosystem in China. We tested the dynamic correlation and risk transmission at the volatility level between the ecological subjects of internet finance and the banking, securities, and insurance industries by establishing a dynamic conditional correlation-generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model of Baba, Engle, Kraft, and Kroner (DCC-GARCH-BEKK). The result indicates a positive dynamic correlation between internet finance and traditional finance almost all of the time. The introduction of internet finance has changed the risk transmission effect among the ecological subjects of traditional finance. Based on empirical findings, this study provides suggestions to promote the sustainable development of internet finance and the whole financial ecosystem. Our research not only has strong practical significance but also contributes significantly to the literature on internet finance and sustainable development.

The purpose of the article is is to determine strategic guidelines and priority directions of sustainable socio-economic development of rural communities and territories in the conditions of power decentralization and self-government reform in Ukraine. Research methods. The techniques of the abstract-logical method, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, analogy and comparison were used to generalise the study's theoretical and methodological aspects. In analytical studies, some economic and statistical methods were used to diagnose the trends in the development of rural communities and territories in the context of decentralization of power (comparative analysis, averages and relative values, statistical groupings, trend analysis, graphical method, index analysis, etc.)—some forms of abstract-logical tools allowed to formulate intermediate and final conclusions and proposals. Research results. It is proved that the sustainable development of rural communities and territories presupposes the unity and balance of its four components: economic, social, ecological and institutional. The economic component should be based on obtaining the maximum aggregate income while maintaining and increasing the working aggregate capital and production volumes of competitive products; social - on creating the optimal social conditions and improving the quality of human life as the primary value of the society; ecological - on the balance of biological and natural systems, the integrity of the biosphere and ecosystem and their ability to self-reproduction; institutional - on strengthening the institution's role in ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of rural communities and territories. Together, they constitute strategic guidelines for sustainable socio-economic development of rural communities and territories and provide specific priority directions. Scientific novelty. In the article, the complex of strategic guidelines and priority directions of sustainable socio-economic development of rural communities and territories in power decentralization and self-government reform at the primary level on four components have been improved (economic, social, ecological and institutional). This will substantiate the methods and mechanisms of implementation of state policy to ensure its. Practical significance. The defined and substantiated strategic guidelines and priority directions set out in the article can be taken into account in developing effective targeted government policy aimed at sustainable socio-economic development of rural communities and territories in Ukraine. Sustainability ideas are implemented in almost all areas of life, not only into the economic and social life. However, the ways to sustainable development quantifying are still relatively complicated and incomplete. One of the possibilities of assessment and achievement of sustainable development and sustainability can be considered assessment using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) presented in Agenda 2030. The aim of the paper is to assess the similarity of the EU countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals according to 2030 Agenda.
