Core competency is the basis of promoting a competitive advantage for any organization; this study aims to establish an objective and systematic assessment model for companies to identify their capabilities. This model will not only assist companies in understanding their own capabilities but will also allow them to compare their performance with that of main competitors to strengthen their competitiveness. The analysis process involved a combination of the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process, fuzzy linguistic value, and the ideal and anti-ideal concept. An objective and systematic model was first developed, which underwent empirical analysis using data from the top three home delivery companies in Taiwan. It was found that “Basic organizational competencies” and “Special competitive competencies” were the two key categories for the home delivery industry. Moreover, “Service price”, “On-time delivery”, and “Secure delivery” were found to be the three most important capabilities needed for home delivery companies. The results showed that the model is able to effectively assist organizations in constructing or assessing their organizational capabilities; in addition, organizations can adjust their service profiles to adapt to today’s turbulent business environment and rapidly changing consumer demands.

In the assessment subsystem of the UAV health system ,the analytic hierarchy process method is used to build up a UAV performance assessment model, and to analyze and determine each factor and subordinate degree affecting UAV system performance or conditions. For the UAV monitoring and inspection data that are quantitative, the data are assessed and scored by the fuzzy AHP method, while for the extent of the data that are non-quantitative,the data will be directly assessed and scored according to the expert system. On the basis of comprehensive analysis and calculation, the scores of safety, durability and serviceability of each section of the UAV can be achieved and the weighted factor method is then used to finalize the grades of the health conditions of the UAV. With all methods mentioned above, the real-time assessment of the health conditions of the UAV is realized and scientific bases of decision-making for maintenance and management of the UAV are thus provided.

The operation of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is smaller in scope and scale of business that they tend to suffer from financial crises or even bankruptcy when facing an economic downturn [1]. Thus, most research for SMEs today focuses on the formulation and practice of strategies, such as exploring the key success factors and innovation research. Taiwan’s forklift industry (TFI) belongs to SMEs that it is indispensable from construction engineering, but the related research has always been lacking to improve their competitiveness and sustainability. We refer to the relevant literature and expert opinions and use the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) to verify and rank the 18 factors that affect financial factors in TFI. We summarized these factors into four financial facets, including profits, workforce, holding cost, and stock-out cost. Then, the MCGP-U model is used to find the optimal solution for TFI and Komatsu Forklift Taiwan (KFT). In addition, KFT is taken as an example to ensure decision-makers (DMs) remain KFT in a better financial status and competitive advantages under uncertain business environment. As a result, the MCGP-U model optimizes the four financial facets better than by the rule of thumb in KFT, especially in the holding cost section achieving savings as high as 55.9%. Finally, the model runs fast and provides robust results, which is suitable for SMEs, given the characteristics of lacking experts and funds.

Supplier selection is a multi-criteria decision making problem which includes evaluation factors. In order to select the best suppliers, it is crucial to considering the both qualitative and quantitative factors simultaneously. The analytic hierarchy Process is a kind of Decision-making method with the combination of quantity and quality. Combining with fuzzy algorithm, this paper established a supplier evaluating system based on ERP database, discussing many issues in the systematic design and developing the implement step. The system make the evaluation process transparent by using data mining and fuzzy-AHP algorithm, and avoid the disturbing from excessively subjective factors. Thus it can guarantee the fairness of the assessment. Finally, the example and conclusion are given.

Selection of service providers in the global supply chains of today has been recognized as having a very important effect on the competitiveness of the entire supply chain. It results in achieving high quality end results (products and/or services), at reasonable cost coupled with high customer satisfaction. This article discusses the use of Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) to effectively manage the qualitative and quantitative decision factors which are involved in the selection of providers of 3PL services under Lead Logistics Provider (LLP) environments of today. Lead logistics providers (LLP) are increasingly being banked upon to integrate the best of 3PL service providers and allow for synchronized and optimized operations. In the asset free environments of today, many a times, the LLP uses the services of the 3PL and hence the issue of reliably choosing them assumes increasingly greater significance. The fuzzy-AHP has been adequately demonstrated in literature to be an effective tool which can be used to factor-in the fuzziness of data. Triangular Fuzzy Numbers (TFN) have been deployed to make over the linguistic comparisons of criteria, sub-criteria and the alternatives. The FAHP based model formulated in this chapter is applied to a case study in the Indian context using data from three leading LSPs with significant operating leverages in the province of Uttrakhand (India). The proposed model can provide the guidelines and directions for the decision makers to effectively select their global service providers in the present day competitive logistics markets.

The trends of the green supply chain are attributed to pressures from the environment and from customers. Green innovation is a practice for creating competitive advantage in sustainable development. To keep up with the changing business environment, the construction industry needs an appropriate assessment tool to examine the intrinsic and extrinsic effects regarding corporate competitive advantage. From the viewpoint of energy and environmental protection, this study combines four scientific methodologies to develop an assessment model for the green innovation of contractors. System dynamics can be used to estimate the future trends for the overall industrial structure and is useful in predicting competitive advantage in the industry. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and utility theory focus on the customer’s attitude toward risk and are useful for comprehending changes in objective requirements in the environment. Fuzzy logic can simplify complicated intrinsic and extrinsic factors and express them with a number or ratio that is easy to understand. The proposed assessment model can be used as a reference to guide the government in examining the public constructions that qualified green contractors participate in. Additionally, the assessment model serves an indicator of relative competitiveness that can help the general contractor and subcontractor to evaluate themselves and further green innovations.

Decisions usually involve the getting the best solution, selecting the suitable experiments, most appropriate judgments, taking the quality results etc., using some techniques.  Every decision making can be considered as the choice from the set of alternatives based on a set of criteria.  The fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is a multi-criteria decision making and is dealing with decision making problems through pairwise comparisons mode [10].  The weight vectors from this comparison model are obtained by using extent analysis method.  This paper concern with an alternate method of finding the weight vectors from the original fuzzy AHP decision model (moderate fuzzy AHP model), that has the same rank as obtained in original fuzzy AHP and ideal fuzzy AHP decision models.

In line with the increase in consciousness on sustainability in today’s global world, great emphasis has been attached to food waste management. Food waste is a complex issue to manage due to uncertainties on quality, quantity, location, and time of wastes, and it involves different decisions at many stages from seed to post-consumption. These ambiguities re-quire that some decisions should be handled in a linguistic and ambiguous environment. That forces researchers to benefit from fuzzy sets mostly utilized to deal with subjectivity that causes uncertainty. In this study, as a novel approach, the spherical fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (SFAHP) was used to select the best food treatment option. In the model, four main criteria (infrastructural, governmental, economic, and environmental) and their thirteen sub-criteria are considered. A real case is conducted to show how the proposed model can be used to assess four food waste treatment options (composting, anaerobic digestion, landfilling, and incineration). Also, a sensitivity analysis is generated to check whether the evaluations on the main criteria can change the results or not. The proposed model aims to create a subsidiary tool for decision makers in relevant companies and institutions.
