One of the most important fields of study in material science is surface characterization. This topic is currently a field of growing interest as many functional properties depend on the surface texture. In this paper the authors, after a short a review of different methods for surface topography characterization and the determination of the traceability problems that arise in this type of measurements, propose four different designs of material standards that can be used to calibrate the most common optical measuring instruments used for these tasks, such as measuring microscopes, metallurgical microscopes, confocal microscopes, focus variation microscopes, etc. The authors consider that the use of this type of standards (or others similar to them) could provide a step forward in assuring metrological traceability for different metrological characteristics that enables a more precise measurement of surface features with optical measuring instruments. In addition, authors expect that this work could lay the groundwork for the development of custom standards with specialized features tuned to gain a better metrological control when measuring specific geometrical surface properties.

Improvement of orbits precision is one of the most important tasks of space surveillance catalogue maintenance. The solution of this problem is directly related to an adequate consideration of the errors of the coordinate information from the measuring instruments. The article consideresd a new method for estimating the precision of measuring instruments on the catalog orbits. To carry out such analysis, in PJSC «VIMPEL» special technological program was created. Main results of a study of radar errors with orbits of space surveillance catalogue was presented. Also, the results were compared with data of measuring instrument's calibration software complex. This software complex provides determination of satellite's position with errors less than 10 m. A new dynamic model of measuring instrument errors is proposed.

The surface shape of structure plane is closely related with its mechanics property. Precise measurement to the surface shape of structure plane is the basis of deformation mechanism and strength characteristics. On the basis of studying advantages and disadvantages of the measuring instrument, the author has developed a new kind of portable measuring instruments innovatively - Contact Punching Device which has improved open-air working efficiency greatly. Application results show that JRC obtained by the Contact Punching Device is very close to the actual JRC of surface shape of the structure plane. Then about size effect of rigid structure plane, got the following principle that the statistical variance of the undulating roughness of the structure surface decays gradually with length of the rock sample, and got the limiting length of the undulating roughness when the influence of shearing intensity of the structure is dispelled. Finally, which proved through the embodiment of different rock and different weathering rock, the result indicates this method can be applied to engineering.

Currently, in the Russian Federation, the metrological traceability of certified reference materials of the composition of gas mixtures in cylinders under pressure produced by manufacturers of certified reference materials is carried out in accordance with GOST 8.578-2014. Considering that certified reference materials of the composition of gas mixtures in cylinders under pressure are used for testing to approye the type of measuring instruments, verification, calibration, and graduation of gas-analytical measuring instruments used to control explosive gases and vapors, harmful components in the atmospheric air and the air of the working area, emissions from vehicles and enterprises, to control technological processes, the quality of hydrocarbon products, etc., the issue of ensuring the quality of seriously produced certified reference materials (about 100.000 cylinders with gas mixtures per year) is important. To ensure the quality of certified reference materials of gas mixtures in cylinders under pressure, mass-produced by manufacturers of certified reference materials, we offer the following actions:– manufacturers of certified reference materials’ passing of mandatory accreditation for compliance with the requirements of GOST ISO Guide 34–2014 and GOST ISO Guide 35–2015;– manufacturers of certified reference materials’ constant participation in the proficiency testing programs through interlaboratory tests;– actualizing and refining the existing set of standards defining the requirements for the entire life cycle of a certified reference material of a gas mixture in a cylinder under pressure;– improving the method of certification of a reference material by calculating the value of the expanded uncertainty of the reference material and the introducting a new coefficient «technological reserve».
