Background: The aim of the study is to assess whether lung function of infants born preterm predicts wheezing in pre-school age. Methods: A survey of the core wheezing questionnaire of the International Study on Asthma and Allergy in Children was administered to parents of preterm newborns, to whom lung function tests were performed at a corrected age of six months, and who, at the time of the survey, were between three and nine years of age. Results: Low values of all lung function parameters measured, except FVC, were predictors of wheezing at some time in life, (FEV0.5 OR: 0.62 (95%CI 0.39; 0.995); FEV0.5/FVC OR: 0.73 (0.54; 0.99)) FEF75 OR: 0.60 [0.37; 0.93]; FEF25-75 OR: 0.57 (0.37; 0.89)); and of wheezing in the past year (FEV0.5 OR: 0.36 (0.17; 0.76); FEV0.5/FVC OR: 0.59 (0.38; 0.93); FEF75 OR: 0.38 [0.19; 0.76]; FEF25-75 OR: 0.35 (0.17; 0.70). In addition, FEV0.5/FVC values lower than the lowest limit of normality, were predictive of hospital admissions due to wheezing (OR: 3.07; (1.02; 9.25)). Conclusions: Limited lung function in infancy is predictive of both future wheezing and hospitalization for a wheezing episode.

Aim. To study the prevalence of atopic dermatitis symptoms and its relation to bronchial asthma symptoms in children of 7-8 years of age. Methods. 8880 children aged 7-8 years were examined (3000 children - in 2002, 2865 children - in 2006, 3015 children - in 2010). A questionnaire survey for atopic dermatitis symptoms was conducted as a part of international unified program «International Study of Asthma and Allergy in childhood». Results. Significant differences in prevalence of atopic dermatitis symptoms according to the questionnaire survey and as documented in medical charts were determined. The prevalence of atopic dermatitis symptoms has raised from 12.5±0.4% in 2002 to 20.4±1.5% in 2010 (р 0.001). The prevalence of atopic dermatitis symptoms early onset (younger than 2 years of age) decreased from 7.6±1.0 to 4.9±0.8% (p 0.05). The prevalence of atopic dermatitis relapses during the past calendar year increased from 3.2±0.6 to 4.8±0.8% (p 0.05). Meanwhile, the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis was set up in preadolescent children 7-8 years of age fore frequently: to 4.0±0.7% in 2002 compared to 13.8±1.3% in 2010 (p 0.001). The prevalence of atopic dermatitis and bronchial asthma combination increased from 3.4±0.4 to 7.8±1.0% (p 0.001). A strong relation between presence of atopic dermatitis symptoms and bronchial asthma symptoms was discovered (from 0.76 to 1.00, p 0.05). Conclusion. The prevalence of atopic dermatitis symptoms and bronchial asthma symptoms is still growing in preadolescent children 7-8 years of age, a relation between presence of abovementioned diseases symptoms was discovered.

INTRODUCTION. Smoking habit of 54 asthmatics was followed for 15 years. OBJECTIVE. To examine if there was any difference of lung function tests between smoking and nonsmoking young asthmatics METHOD. Based on questionnaires, clinical examinations, lung function tests and skin prick tests, 54 adolescents with asthma were separated out of 1134 pupils of one Belgrade high school. They were followed-up till the age of 30. RESULTS. 62.9% of subjects were females and 37.1% were males. Average age at the beginning was 16.3 and 29.6 at the end of study. In 13.0% of subjects, the asthma manifested in the first year of life, in 72.2% between 2-6 years of age and in 14.8% of our subjects, the asthma developed after 7th year. The symptoms of asthma in last 12 months were present in 54.8% of our subjects at the age of 16, compared to 77.8% of asthmatics with asthma symptoms at the age of 30. Percent of smokers increased cumulatively from 16.7% at the beginning of study up to 57.5% upon its completion. Number of cigarettes increased from 7.5% to 16.5% cig/day in a smoker from the adolescent period until the end of study, with no difference in relation to sex. Average duration of smoking experience was 11.5 years, no difference in relation to gender. Values of VC, FVC, FEV1, PEF and MEF75 were always lower in asthmatics-smokers, but with no statistical difference. Tiffeneau index, MEF25 and MEF50 were statistically lower in the smoking group at the age of 30 compared to their values at the age of 21. CONCLUSION. Smoking does affect lung function of asthmatics that started to smoke and Tiffeneu index, MEF25 and MEF50 were statistically lower as early as at the age of 30.

A crossover study was carried out to compare the acceptability and efficacy of 8 mg twice daily controlled release salbutamol with 525 or 700 mg twice daily aminophylline in patients with reversible obstructive airways disease. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups to determine the treatment order. A 2-week run-in period was used to titrate the aminophylline dosage, followed by a crossover phase of two 4-week treatments. A total of 68 patients, aged 20 − 75 years, entered the study and 39 (57%) completed it. The two drugs differed in the pattern and severity of their side-effects. Of the 15 patients withdrawn because of severe adverse events, 12 were unable to tolerate treatment with aminophylline. There were no statistically significant differences between the treatments for lung function tests measured at the clinic, peak expiratory flow rate recorded by the patients, frequency (or severity) of asthma symptoms or the use of relief medication. Patients completing the study expressed a preference for controlled release salbutamol in 17/25 (68%) cases.

Introduction and objectives: Asthma is the most prevalent chronic disease in childhood. However, the latest data on its prevalence in Spain are from Phase III of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC), 2004. The objective of our study was to assess the prevalence of asthma symptoms, severity and diagnosis in the paediatric popula-tion aged between 13 and 14 years in the province of Salamanca.Material and methods: Cross-sectional multicentre study carried out in 2017–2018 in 13-and 14-year-old school children in the province of Salamanca as a centre participating in of the Global Asthma Network (GAN) Phase I. The standardised validated written question-naire and that directed by a video was administered; it was self-completed by the pupils. Results: A total of 3485 questionnaires were completed, and the pupils’ participation rate was 95.01%. Among the total, 25.7% indicated having had wheeze ever (20.7% in the video questionnaire); 14.7% indicated having had wheeze in the past 12 months (11.3% in the video questionnaire). The prevalence of current wheeze that limited speech was 3.9% (7.5% in the video questionnaire) and the current prevalence of severe wheeze was 6.5%. Regarding asthma diagnosis, 19.7% of the sample answered that they had had asthma ever, whilst 14.0% referred to having physician-diagnosed asthma. The agreement between the written ques-tionnaire and that directed by video was acceptable for the questions of wheeze ever (Cohen Kappa index [k] = 0.53) and current wheeze (k = 0.42).

Under the term “Hilfe zur Arbeit” (aid for work) the federal law of social welfare subsumes all kinds of labour disciplining instruments. First, the paper shows the historical connection of welfare and labour disciplining mechanisms in the context of different periods within capitalist development. In a second step, against the background of historical experiences, we will analyse the trends of “Hilfe zur Arbeit” during the past two decades. It will be shown that by the rise of unemployment, the impact of labour disciplining aspects of “Hilfe zur Arbeit” has increased both on the federal and on the municipal level. For this reason the leverage of the liberal paradigm would take place even in the core of social rights.

To displace a character in time is to depict a character who becomes acutely conscious of his or her status as other, as she or he strives to comprehend and interact with a culture whose mentality is both familiar and different in obvious and subtle ways. Two main types of time travel pose a philosophical distinction between visiting the past with knowledge of the future and trying to inhabit the future with past cultural knowledge, but in either case the unpredictable impact a time traveller may have on another society is always a prominent theme. At the core of Japanese time travel narratives is a contrast between self-interested and eudaimonic life styles as these are reflected by the time traveller's activities. Eudaimonia is a ‘flourishing life’, a life focused on what is valuable for human beings and the grounding of that value in altruistic concern for others. In a study of multimodal narratives belonging to two sets – adaptations of Tsutsui Yasutaka's young adult novella The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Yamazaki Mari's manga series Thermae Romae – this article examines how time travel narratives in anime and live action film affirm that eudaimonic living is always a core value to be nurtured.
