Exergaming, or active video gaming, has become an emerging trend in fitness, education and health sectors. It is defined as digital games that require bodily movements to play, stimulating an active gaming experience to function as a form of physical activity (PA). Since exergaming is becoming more popular, claims have been made on the usefulness of exergaming. It has, for example, been entitled as being “the future of fitness” by the American College of Sports Medicine, promoting PA and health in children and adolescents. However, research also suggests that long-term engagement in exergaming is difficult to achieve, and there is a noticeable reservation towards exergaming by parents, teachers and caregivers. To provide an overview and to outline the future directions of exergaming, the aim of this review was to critically illustrate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of exergaming to promote PA and health in children and youth. The available evidence indicates that exergaming has the potential to improve health via an increase in PA. However, it seems that this potential is frequently underexploited, and further developments such as customized exergames are needed.

This article discusses the intelligence-reform movement since the 9/11 attack. It particularly places emphasis on Defense Intelligence reforms. The article also explores the role of the Defense Intelligence in shaping and implementing law and executive guidance and policy. It also discusses how long-term, trusted relationships between key intelligence officials in place during 2007 to 2008 were a critical factor in events moving successfully through a number of contentious policy issues. The article ends with some views on the future directions of research in this field in order to bring the intelligence-reform movement to fruition.

The rapid escalation of research on the development of relational aggression and related constructs has been truly remarkable. Our volume is designed to fill a void in the literature and focus on the development of relational aggression. We conclude this volume by first reviewing some of the key points and implications from the prior chapters. Next, we discuss five future directions for the field: (1) conducting long-term longitudinal studies and adopting a lifespan perspective, (2) striving for advances in methods and technology, (3) using advanced statistics to address collinearity and co-occurrence among aggression subtypes, (4) exploring the role of other forms of aggression, and (5) embracing replication. Finally, we provide some concluding thoughts.

Abstract This paper considers how what has been learned about hoarding difficulties in adults can be applied to working with children and adolescents and how our knowledge of child development can improve how we help the younger person with this problem. In particular, attachment relationships to objects and organisational difficulties will be focused upon. The importance of earlier interventions, earlier in life, to prevent problems in the future is stressed. Future directions including a research agenda are put forward.

One of the main problems of modern sport is propensity for various kinds of sport activity and individualization of the training process. To solve this problem effectively, the Center of testing, selection and support for sports-gifted children and adolescents has been created on the basis of Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health. The structure of the Center includes the medical and biological department, the genetic department, the department of psychological evaluation and support, the sports and pedagogical department. In each department the individual quotients, based on the collected and analyzed information about the individual's makings and abilities, are compared with the standard requirements in a particular kind of sport. After that the opinion about the general and special sports talent of person is made. Coordination interaction between departments is provided by the Information and Organizational Department of the Center, which conducts final sports consultancy and support on the basis of the complex opinion of the individual profile of the child's sports talent. Individual profile of sports talent allows to determine the degree of development and retardation of main physical qualities and abilities, to define the directions of sport specialization, to develop a training program, to make amendments. Innovative programs of individualizing training process, which are provided in this center, are based on long-term practical experience in sports pedagogic, sports genetics, sports psychology and sports medicine. The center of testing, selection and support to sports-gifted children and adolescents is an innovative institution that has no analogues.

The forest-game conflict – how can forest economics contribute to solve it? (Essay) Core parameters of forest economics such as land expectation value or highest revenue show that damage caused by wild ungulates can critically influence the economic success of forest enterprises. When assessing and evaluating the damage in order to calculate damage compensation, methods are applied in Germany that look either into the past (“cost value methods”) or into the future (“expected value methods”). The manifold uncertainties related to this evaluation over long-term production periods are taken into account within a framework of conventions through strongly simplifying assumptions. Only lately, the increased production risk due to game-induced loss of species diversity is also considered. Additional aspects that should be taken into account in the future are the loss of climate-adapted species, the change of the insurance values of forest ecosystems and the impossibility of specific management systems such as single-tree selection forestry due to the influence of game. Because of high transaction costs when assessing the damage, financial compensation should only be the “ultimate measure” and a meditation between stakeholder groups with the goal to find a cooperative solution before the damage occurs should be preferred.
