According to the European Union (EU) regulations, EU members are obligated, among others, to improve the energy efficiency in the outdoor lighting sector. One of the ways to consider this fact is to install LED sources in luminaires. Due to the reasonable lighting requirements for the lighting of squares and parks, the cheapest way to modernize lighting is to replace conventional discharge lamps with LED sources in park luminaires. Using nine typical park luminaires, the influence of replacing classic sodium lamps with LED sources on the effect of light pollution and energy efficiency was analyzed. Using data, such as a photometric solid and a relative spectral distribution, simulation calculations were carried out in DIALux software and our own calculation tool to consider this issue. The studies considered 156 LED sources of different spectral distributions and a wide range of color temperatures from 1000 K to 9753 K as well as different color rendering index (CRI) values. The conducted studies showed that the replacement of sodium lamps with LED sources is not necessarily associated with an increased negative impact on the effect of light pollution. It was also found also that the CRI value has an influence on the degree of light pollution.

One of the strategic objectives of the European Union is a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and improvement of energy efficiency by at least 32.5% in different areas of the economy by 2030. However, little is known about the impact of payment in retail on energy consumption. The purpose of this paper is to assess the chain of losses of time and energy, and therefore financial losses, that occur due to the imperfection of payment infrastructure and instruments using data of cashiers’ working time. The research is based on a regression analysis method, where the energy cost per payment transaction is considered in this study as a function of the number of customers per hour and the energy cost. The results of the panel models highlight that the number of customers per hour has a negative impact on the cost of energy per payment transaction. Furthermore, modern means and methods of payment, including cryptocurrencies, do not solve the problem of the excessive time that it takes to service payments, which entails a waste of energy and money. The empirical results give valuable insights into how to best organise payment in retail to achieve lower energy costs and improve energy efficiency in payment infrastructure.

In this chapter we examine the notion of linguistic and other types of societal diversity that have become an important factor in evaluating economic, political and societal progress. While most of the existing research on the measurement of diversity has been focused either on the number and size of different groups, this approach fails to take into account the degree of their distinctiveness. Thus, it is important to incorporate the notion of distances or dissimilarity between groups which should help resolving the difficult group identification problem. We discuss various ways of measuring similarity between groups, the wide range of fractionalization and polarization indices and their impact (positive or negative) on various economic and political outcomes. To mitigate the negative impact of linguistic fractionalization, societies has often chosen to standardize by reducing the number of official languages. The numerous examples of such standardization policies (in the Russian Empire, India, Sri Lanka, among many others, including the European Union) lead to the feeling of disenfranchisement experienced by some population groups, and often end up failing. The search for a compromise between efficiency and the sentiment of being disenfranchised represents a serious challenge for any multi-lingual country or union; we examine this problem in the context of the European Union for which good data are available.

Human is a unique creature that was given an ability to change and develop the surrounding world at own discretion. Therefore, the humanity gifted with a spark of the divine began to reshape the surface of our planet. In the course of time, it became clear that anthropogenic world is opposed to the nature. This caused the upset of the Universe’s balance. Nowadays the mankind impact on the environment is more than ever. There are such well-known problems as global warming, air and water pollution, the recycling issue. Although there are ones which are hidden or difficult for our understanding. One of them is called light pollution. We face it every day, but do not pay enough attention to the way the artificial light effects on us and the nature.The main objectives of the research are to analyze the regulatory documents and the scholarly writings on the topic effect of the light facilities exploitation on the environment and the human, to formulate the main problems, which appear during the application of the artificial outdoorlighting and to figure out efficient methods to reduce their impact.Light pollution has become one of the global problems. Unlike many environmental problems facing humanity, the problem of light pollution has a cumulative effect, which result is shown over time. That is why it becomes clear that awareness-raising activities are necessary to provide the society knowledge about artificial lighting, its way of operating and the consequences of its use. Light pollution is a physical phenomenon when natural light regime is disturbed. This effect is due to the irrational organization of the work of lighting equipment, excessive use of lighting outside the desired area, improper use of artificial lighting sources. As a result, scattered and reflected light contaminates the sky -this is how light flows into the upper hemisphere. The effect of light pollution is also amplified by the presence in the air masses of the smallest particles of dust and aerosols. The light passing through them can change their trajectory or scatter.There are such problems caused by the effect of light pollution:1) impact on human health and safety –it is hard to deny that sleep disturbance can be a ground for the development of wide range of diseases. Scattered light which comes into the room through the window from the outside is the first thing we might think about, but the way light influences on human is much more difficult. To give our body an ability to rehabilitate it is important to provide the full darkness. Human hormonal system produces melatonin –the sleep hormone. If amount of this hormone is low, the quality of sleep decreases. It may cause illnesses of cardiovascular system, nervous system, hormonal disbalance etc.;2) disruption of the planet's ecosystem –lifecycles ofliving beings depend on light cycles. In animal world it is usual that creatures have their own “timetable” that dictates the rhythm of their lives. Aside humans, animals and birds cannot derogate from the nature planned life periods. For example, some animals rely on night-time hunt. Because of the light pollution such animals confuse day and night. What is more, birds can lose the direction of their flight and even the orientation in the space, flying over and over above lit up areas. Flora also suffers from the over-light. Plants’ lifecycles get moved. This aspect may cause the harvest lost, if crop is ready not the right season.3) inappropriate financial expenses –old lighting systems are energy-intensive, so they need to be replaced by energy efficient analogues. But the way of use is also important. The huge amount of energy is wasted. Most light facilities work when it is not desired. For instance, many outdoor light fixtures in Ukraine work all the night through without stopping;4) obstruction of scientific researches of the night sky.The world experience in the issue of light pollution differs from country to country, but every year more and more countries understand the seriousness of this problem. Some countries such as Chili, USA, Canada etc. develop their legislative framework and put some strict limits on the exploitation of the outdoor and architectural lighting. Global problem calls for global cooperation. Therefore, such organizations as The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) become more popular.On the contrary, in Ukraine the problem of light pollution is not payed enough attention. Although it should be solved on the governmental level. The standards shown in regulatory literature about the outdoor lighting is built by the principles of human comfort, but without respect to the environment.The research made it possible to formulate a set of recommendations on design and exploitation of the light facilities to create a concept of a sustainable development in the area of urban improvement. The existing system of outdoor lighting enhancement should include next steps:1) the introduction of standards for the illumination regulation and the implementation of the minimum values of illumination;2) rational arrangement of light fixtures, designers should avoid the usage of light in the adjacent areas where lighting is not provided;3) reducing the duration of lighting facilities work by the use of special equipment: dimers, motion sensors, timers, etc.;4) modernization of the old lightingequipment;5) use of "warm" light by applying light bulbs with a light temperature up to 3000 K;6) usage of fixtures that are fully shielded so the light streams do not go towards the sky;7) put limitations on the quality and amount of the architecturallighting use.

In a context of increased world population and imbalanced access to resources, the concept of food waste has gained increased attention in the past years. The waste of food has a negative impact on the economy, the society and the environment. In order to reduce the quantities of wasted food, it is important to understand the factors and the situations in which food waste occurs. Several studies have shown that food waste happens mostly at the consumer level and that it is determined by a wide range of factors, such as socio-demographic characteristics and consumption patterns. The objective of this paper is to determine the impact of the national culture on the quantity of wasted fruit and vegetables. Based on secondary data, the panel regression analysis was applied for 28 European countries with the purpose of determining the influence of the cultural dimensions as described by Hofstede on the quantities of wasted fruit and vegetables. The results of the research show that the uncertainty avoidance of a culture complemented by the indulgence index influences the quantity of wasted fruit and vegetables, confirming that certain characteristics of the national culture are factors that affect the quantity of wasted food.

Nowadays, LED lighting technology reaches a higher Value of Energy Efficiency in Installations (VEEI) (W/m2*100 lux) than current luminaire lighting due to the number of lumens per watt that these are able to generate, as well as the directional nature of their emissions together with the adjustment capability through concentrator lenses with beam graduations that reach 5º. This achieves energy savings of up to 80%. Furthermore, also considering the substantial decrease in flickers, and that it noticeably improves usage of ultra-slow-motion cameras and the fading of switching-on or rearm times upon failure, LED technology stands out as the main solution for illumination of professional sports facilities. This article describes the evolution of regulatory requirements that are being imposed by the governing institutions of sports (FIFA, UEFA, FIBA, etc.) and professional leagues (LaLiga, Euroliga, etc.) in order to guarantee their competence as high-quality television products. In addition, the trends in requirements and specifications regarding lighting equipment and its installation, which are intended to convert stadiums into optimized centers for the celebration and dissemination of mass events, are analyzed (settings, photometry, etc.), particularly those concerning horizontal, vertical, and camera illuminance, average and extreme uniformities, glare, reduction of intrusive light in bleachers, flickers, color rendering index (CRI), correlated color temperature (CCT), and start-up times.

But this new development paradigm will also have profound geopolitical consequences. This initiative will have a significant impact on changing the energy balance of the EU and global markets, on the countries exporting energy resources. European energy security will be exposed to new challenges and threats, which is likely to have a negative impact on the economy of a wide range of states.

The production of environmentally friendly livestock products is currently receiving much attention, especially in the European Union. The problem of monitoring the quality and safety of meat and milk in modern conditions is relevant not only for Ukraine but also for the world community. The scientific substantiation of the methods of research on meat for sale subject to invasive diseases is especially important, as the product may pose risks to the consumer. One of the criteria for assessing the welfare of a herd is the prevalence of helminthiases in cattle. Ruminant parasitoses in Ukraine have always been and remain a separate, often significant, problem for veterinary specialists. Helminths have evolved to use a wide range of ecological niches. In this study, we tried to quantify the prevalence of helminthiases among ruminants (cattle, sheep and goats) in Ukraine. The relevant studies were searched for in the online databases. The meta-analysis included 15 publications from January 2015 to December 2020 which reported the spread of parasites in Ukraine. The research results show that the infestation of ruminants with gastrointestinal helminths on the territory of Ukraine is 56.7%. Egger’s regression test revealed no significant publication bias. During the period of pastured farming, stable parasitocenoses are formed in the body of ruminants. The parasitoses are caused by helminths (gastrointestinal strongyles, liver flukes, paramphistomas, dicrocelia). They are recorded in monoinvasions or mixed invasions. Ruminants, according to helminthological examination in different climatic zones, are constantly infested with trematodes. In Ukraine, the presence of three species of flukes has been confirmed in ruminants: Fasciola hepatica, Dicrocoelium dendriticum and Paramphistomum cervi. Parasitization by those species negatively affects the profitability of dairy farming. Trematodes cause significant economic losses: reduced milk productivity of cows, reduced live weight gain of young animals, negative impact on reproduction. At the same time, fascioliasis is socially significant and dangerous to humans. According to the analyzed literature sources, two types of cestodes have been registered in Ukraine: Moniezia benedeni and M. expansa. The epizootic situation regarding nematodes is just as fraught. That is the most numerous group of helminths, their fauna is represented by the following species: Strongyloides papillosus, Nematodirus spathiger, Bunostomum spp., Oesophagostomum radiatum, Haemonchus contortus, Toxocara vitulorum, Trichuris skrjabini, T. ovis and T. globulosa. It is proven that in cattle parasitocenoses are recorded more often than monoinvasions. The highest rates of prevalence of infection were observed when polyinvasion included gastrointestinal strongyles, namely from the order Strongylida. Strongyloides papillosus is the most common taxonomic representative, while Fasciola hepatica has the lowest prevalence of infection, especially in sheep. Updated data on helminthiasis will expand the screening strategy to maintain the health of farm ruminants and reduce economic losses.

The current scenario of colorimetry shows a wide variety of different metrics which do not converge in the assessment of the color rendering of light sources. The limitations of the Color Rendering Index have promoted the emergence of new metrics, such as the Color Quality Scale. As in the case of the previous metric, these new concepts are based on the analysis of the deviation of different color samples in a color space, contrasting the results with those obtained with a light source reference, which can vary depending on the color temperature. Within this context, the Daylight Spectrum Index is proposed. This new concept aims to determine the affinity with daylighting of electric light sources, comparing the resulting spectral power distributions of the lamps studied and that observed under natural light. The affinity of an electric light source with daylighting allows for lower energy consumption due to the better performance of human vision. The new metric proposed is evaluated following the results obtained from 80 surveys, demonstrating the usefulness of this new concept in the quantification of color rendering of LED lamps and the affinity of electric light sources with daylighting.

We demonstrate a phosphor free, dichromatic GaN-based monolithic white LED with vertically stacked green and blue emitting multiple quantum wells. The optimal thickness of GaN barrier layer between green and blue quantum wells used is 8 nm. This device can be tuned over a wide range of correlated color temperature (CCT) to achieve warm white (CCT = 3600 K) to cool white (CCT = 13,000 K) emission by current modulation from 2.3 A/cm2 to 12.9 A/cm2. It is also demonstrated for the first time that a color rendering index (CRI) as high as 67 can be achieved with such a dichromatic source. The observed CCT and CRI tunability is associated with the spectral power evolution due to the pumping-induced carrier redistribution.

Abstract This paper analyses the effects of the 2013 Common Agricultural Policy reforms on the distribution of direct payments across the European Union (EU) member states. The differential implementation of two key redistributive policies across countries from 2014 onwards enables the use of a generalised difference-in-differences strategy to estimate their distributional effects. Using data on EU-wide direct payment recipients reveals a substantial negative impact on the largest payment recipients and significant redistribution towards smaller farmers. A disaggregated analysis suggests that of the two instruments, capping, though still an attractive option for policymakers, is less effective at redistributing subsidies towards smaller farmers than the Redistributive Payment Scheme.
