To ease the installation of perforating rebars through multi-holes, an alternative notched perfobond shear connector was proposed by cutting out the hole edge. This paper presents the test results of six pull-out specimens with conventional and notched perfobond shear connectors. The objective was to compare the failure modes and pull-out behaviors of perfobond shear connectors using circular holes and notched holes. Furthermore, the explicit finite element method was introduced and validated to generate parametric results for pull-out tests of notched perfobond shear connectors. A total of 33 parametric simulations were performed to further study the influences of several variables, including the hole diameter, the cut width, the perfobond thickness, the concrete strength, the diameter and strength of the rebar, and the strength of the structural steel. The experimental and numerical results were used to evaluate the previous equations for perfobond shear connectors. Finally, an alternative equation was proposed to estimate the pull-out resistance of notched perfobond shear connectors.

In steel and concrete composite bridges, it is difficult to perforate the reinforcing bars through the circular holes of conventional perfobond shear connectors with multi-ribs. To ease the installation of perforating rebars, an alternative notched perfobond shear connector was proposed by cutting out the edge of the circular hole. This paper presents the push-out test results of six specimens which were fabricated and loaded to failure. The main purpose was to compare the failure mode, shear capacity and slip behavior of perfobond shear connectors using circular holes and notched holes. Furthermore, 43 nonlinear finite element simulations were performed to further study the effects of several variables, including the hole diameter, the hole distance, the hole number, the cut width, the perfobond thickness, the concrete strength, the rebar diameter, the rebar strength, and the steel strength. The parametric results were generated to evaluate the shear capacity equations for perfobond shear connectors. Finally, an analytical model was developed to estimate the shear capacity of notched perfobond shear connectors.

The high-strength bolt shear connector in prefabricated concrete slab has advantages in applications as it reduces time during the construction of steel-concrete composite building structures and bridges. In this research, an innovative and advanced bolt shear connector in steel-concrete composite structures is proposed. To investigate the fundamental mechanical behavior and the damage form, 22 static push-off tests were conducted with consideration of different bolt dimensions, the reserved hole constraint condition, and the dimension of slab holes. A finite element (FE) model was established and verified by using test results, and then the model was utilized to investigate the influence of concrete strength, bolt dimension, yield strength, bolt pretension, as well as length-to-diameter ratio of high strength bolts on the performances of shear connectors. On the basis of FE simulation and test results, new design formulas for the calculation of shear resistance behavior were proposed, and comparisons were made with current standards, including AISC, EN 1994-1-1, GB 50017-2017, and relevant references, to check the calculation efficiency. It is confirmed that the proposed equation is in better agreement with the experimental results.

This study proposes a new type of the perfobond shear connector, which can be used to strengthen the steel pile cap embedded into the structure foundation, and evaluates its pull-out resistance capacity by performing a test on ten specimens. Test parameters include the embedment length of the shear connector, existence of transverse rebars passing through holes in the shear connector, and their shape, size, and number. The pull-out load versus slip curve is plotted for all specimens, and their failure modes are identified. The effects of the test parameters on the peak pull-out load are examined in this work. The test results show that the perfobond shear connector proposed in this study can retain the peak pull-out load up to 6 times higher than the one without any holes. This indicates that the existence of holes in the shear connector enables the dowel action of concrete inside the hole, resulting in the improvement of the shear resistance capacity of the connector.

A great deal of research has been conducted to improve the understanding of the behavior of new types of shear connectors. This article presents the study of I-shaped connectors behavior under monotonic load welded in four different orientations in order to get the position which gives the high shear strength and the best ductility. For this purpose, eight push-out test specimens with I-shaped shear connectors with different orientations and dimensions were tested in C20/25 and C30/37 concrete classes. The load-slip behavior and failure modes of the tested connectors are presented and discussed. Furthermore, a non-linear 3D finite element modelling of the push-out test is performed in order to further investigate the influencing parameters on the I-shaped connectors behavior. Hence, a parametric study is carried out by using the established 3D finite elements model to study the influence of concrete strength, connector’s steel grade, reinforcements, height and length of the connector. Both experimental and numerical results show that there is a privilege orientation for which the shear strength of an I-shaped shear connector is significantly higher than that of all other tested orientations.

In order to solve the construction problem of perforating rebars’ precise location and it’s getting through the circular holes for the the conventional perfobond connector, a new type of perfobond connector with boot shaped slots was proposed. This new type perfobond connector has the advantage of convenient construction and pricise location. Three groups of push-out tests with nine specimens were carried out to study the shear capacity of the new type perfobond connector. The effect of the number and the spacing of boot shaped slots on failure modes, shear capacity, peak slip and shear stiffness were mainly studied. The test results show that the new type of perfobond connector with boot shaped slots has a high shear capacity and a good ductility, it could be widely applied on the connection between the steel and the concrete structures.

Prestressing spiral groove tendon is a new sort prestressing tendon, its characteristic value of tensile yield strength fyk=1000MPa. Firstly, the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, elastic modulus and elongation are all tested. According to 68 pullout tests, the bond-anchoring curves and failure modes have been studied, and the effects of concrete strength, diameter, anchoring length, thickness of concrete cover and stirrup ratio have been all analyzed. Finally, the equation for ultimate bond-anchoring strength has been suggested by statistical regression, and the test results are in good agreement with values of the suggested equation.

The shear connector design should be executed according to the SP 266.1325800.2016. For the different typed of welded connectors are there analytic dependences, which could be used for shear connection strength estimation. The design code also allows to use powder-actuated Z-shape shear connectors. Their bearing capacity should be proved by tests according to the GOST R 58336-2018. Inasmuch the GOST doesn't consist the test estimation approach, the authors offer the method. For the test estimation methods the test results of 15 series specimen had been used. The results were compared with estimation according to the European standard for the verification.

This paper presents an experimental program for testing glued-in dowel glulam timber joints. Hundred thirty glulam specimens, each with a single glued-in rebar parallel to the grain and perpendicular to grain with different size of dowels 12mm, 16mm and 20mm were tested to evaluate the effects of anchorage length and different dowel diameter for parallel and perpendicular to the grain on pull-out strength and bond behaviour of glued-in rebar timber joints. The test results showed that the maximum load for specimen with dowel glued-in parallel to the grain given the higher maximum load than dowel glued-in perpendicular to the grain direction. Failure modes were characterized by pull out failure in the mode of adhesive-dowel, yet one sample failed in timber-adhesive mode. This might happened because the surface of the timber was burned by drilling machine during the drilling process. The pull-out was tested with different thickness grain direction with different dowel size with a rate of 2mm/min and the failure modes were observed after the testing of pull-out test. PRF is the adhesive used for the strengthening purposes. Resistance to the withdrawal of dowels glued-in perpendicularly was 44.2% to 53.5 % lower than that obtained for dowels glued-in parallel to the grain direction. The result shows that the dowel glued-in parallel to the grain given the higher maximum load than dowel glued-in perpendicular to the grain direction.

The most researches on steel-concrete-steel (SCS) sandwich slabs are to control the cracking of concrete core along with losing weight, and shear connector type. In this study, the behaviour of SCS slabs with bi-directional corrugated-strip shear connectors (CSC) was investigated. One of the most important practical problems of CSCs in SCS slabs is lack of access for another end welding to the second steel faceplate. In this research, plug weld was proposed to provide partial welding of the other end of CSCs to a steel plate. For this reason, three slabs were manufactured using the normal concrete core as a control sample and lightweight concrete (LWC) core with and without steel fibres. The behaviour of these slabs was compared with the behaviour of SCS slabs with J-hook and stud bolt connectors from previous researches. The specimens were tested under a concentrated block load as quasi-statically. Based on the load-displacement relationship at the centre, failure modes, loading capacity, energy absorption, and ductility showed acceptable behaviour for CSC system slabs. There was also a good agreement between the ultimate flexural strength based on experiments and previous research relationships.

Precast concrete sandwich panels (PCSP) are often used as exterior cladding of residential buildings due to thermal efficiency. PCSP systems consist of two precast reinforced concrete walls separated by a layer of insulation and connected with connectors which penetrate the insulation layer and are anchored at two precast walls. This paper provides the pull-out test results of concrete sandwich panel (CSP) with non-shear connectors. The variables in this study were the casting direction of reinforced concrete walls and types of insulation. Test results indicated that the types of insulations and casting direction have a significant effect on the bond strength between concrete wall and insulation. The effect of insulation type is notable for CSP cast horizontally concrete walls.
