Sardina pilchardus and Engraulis encrasicolus are considered the principal target species for commercial fishing in Europe and are widely consumed as semipreserved products. Although they are considered shelf-stable products, if treatment is not correctly applied, their consumption may represent a public health risk in regard to anisakiasis and allergic reactions. Little is known about the prevalence of Anisakis spp. in ripened products. This study aimed to evaluate the presence of Anisakis spp. larvae in deboned, in-oil anchovy and sardine fillets marketed in the EU to assess the influence of processing techniques on the prevalence of larvae. Ninety semipreserved anchovy and sardine products deriving from the Mediterranean Sea or Atlantic Ocean were collected from different EU retailers and examined using chloropeptic digestion to evaluate the presence of larvae and identify them. Thirty nonviable Anisakid larvae—A. pegreffii (30%) and A. simplex (70%)—were found. The frequency of larvae was higher in anchovies (28.8%). The low frequency of parasites found proved that processing technologies can influence the presence of larvae in final products, but it is important that visual inspection is performed only by trained people. The sources of raw materials should be considered in the production flow chart.

Domiati cheese is the most popular brand of cheese ripened in brine in the Middle East in terms of consumed quantities. This study was performed to investigate the impact of the microbiological quality of the used raw materials, the applied traditional processing techniques and ripening period on the quality and safety of the produced cheese. Three hundred random composite samples were collected from three factories at Fayoum Governorate, Egypt. Collected samples represent twenty-five each of: raw milk, table salt, calf rennet, microbial rennet, water, environmental air, whey, fresh cheese, ripened cheese & swabs from: worker hands; cheese molds and utensils; tanks. All samples were examined microbiologically for Standard Plate Count (SPC), coliforms count, Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) count, total yeast & mould count, presence of E. coli, Salmonellae and Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes). The mean value of SPC, coliforms, S. aureus and total yeast & mould counts ranged from (79×102 CFU/m3 for air to 13×108 CFU/g for fresh cheese), (7×102 MPN/ cm2 for tank swabs to 80×106 MPN/ml for raw milk), (9×102 CFU/g for salt to 69×106 CFU/g for fresh cheese) and (2×102 CFU/cm2 for hand swabs to 60×104 CFU/g for fresh cheese), respectively. Whereas, E. coli, Salmonella and L. monocytogenes failed to be detected in all examined samples. There were significant differences in all determined microbiological parameters (p ≤0.05) between fresh and ripened cheese which may be attributed to different adverse conditions such as water activity, pH, salt content and temperature carried out to improve the quality of the product.

In countries that are rich with oil palm, the use of palm oil to produce bio-based acrylates and polyol can be the most eminent raw materials used for developing new and advanced natural polymeric materials involving radiation technique, like coating resins, nanoparticles, scaffold, nanocomposites, and lithography for different branches of the industry. The presence of hydrocarbon chains, carbon double bonds, and ester bonds in palm oil allows it to open up the possibility of fine-tuning its unique structures in the development of novel materials. Cross-linking, reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT), polymerization, grafting, and degradation are among the radiation mechanisms triggered by gamma, electron beam, ultraviolet, or laser irradiation sources. These radiation techniques are widely used in the development of polymeric materials because they are considered as the most versatile, inexpensive, easy, and effective methods. Therefore, this review summarized and emphasized on several recent studies that have reported on emerging radiation processing technologies for the production of radiation curable palm oil-based polymeric materials with a promising future in certain industries and biomedical applications. This review also discusses the rich potential of biopolymeric materials for advanced technology applications.

ABSTRACTIn the near future, a large segment of the scientific community will have an opportunity to perform materials processing experiments on the Space Shuttle in the reduced gravity environment of space. Many of these experiments will require containerless processing techniques that provide manipulation and control of weightless (molten) materials without physical contact with container walls or other holding devices. A variety of containerless processing technologies are now being developed for space and ground-based materials processing facilities. The utilization of air jets or high intensity acoustic, electromagnetic or electrostatic fields can produce forces that support and manipulate materials. Most of the present containerless research is directed toward the development of high temperature systems capable of melting and resolidifying materials. This paper will review the materials processing capabilities and level of developmental progress of each technique. An introduction to available NASA test facilities will also be given.

The quality of raw materials and goods of animal origin depends first of all on the safety of feed, their balance in terms of the main nutrients and digestibility by the body. As a rule, the lower the quality and safety of feed, the lower the productivity of all types of animals and poultry. The quality of feed is influenced by all stages of their production: growing conditions, harvesting and storage, processing technologies, canning and preparation for feeding. Where high-quality feed is used in diets, maximum productivity and high realization of the genetic potential of animals are obtained. During the storage and processing of plant and animal raw materials its physic and mechanical, biochemical, sanitary and microbiological properties change. This can be avoided only by observing the sanitary and hygienic requirements for bagging, harvesting, and storing feed. The quality of feed is confirmed by its physical, chemical, organoleptic, microbiological and other indicators, which determines the variety of feed control methods at all stages of their turnover. In this connection, the development and strengthening of control over the quality and safety of feed and feed additives is one of the important tasks of modern animal feeding science. The purpose of the work was to carried out a comparative assessment of four samples of the starting compound feed SK-3 for piglets of different producers. The experimental part of the work has been carried out in the laboratory of veterinary expertise at the compound feed plant LLC “Athens-Volga”. For the study of compound feed an average sample was taken from each sample, separating from the combined sample using a hand scoop according to Federal standard 13496.0-2016. Methods of sampling. Quality and safety control was carried out according to organoleptic, physic and chemical, microbiological indicators and the content of mycotoxins in compound feed. Monitoring of compound feed of the compared samples of the starting compound feed for piglets SK-3 according to the studied indicators has shown that all samples meet the sanitary and hygienic requirements of Federal standard of our country.

The purpose of the article. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the theoretical foundations and practical innovative solutions for the reuse of waste resources with a proposal for improved waste management technology with prospects for implementation in Ukraine. Research methodology: theoretical and practical aspects of the introduction and implementation of eco-management, because for Ukraine such an approach to the introduction of innovative processing technologies in enterprises is completely new. Methodical toolkit of substantiation of innovative decisions of reuse of resources from waste, structure of prime cost of the improved system for the Goloseevsky area. Kiev. Scientific novelty. It is proposed to optimize the existing garbage problem in most regions and replace waste trucks based on the method of the pneumatic system manufactured by Envac. The system allows you to reduce the cost of moving cargo over time sorting or disposal points. Conclusions. The introduction of innovative systems in Ukraine for the year saves UAH 34 billion 499 million, in addition, the sorting of household waste is gaining popularity, recycling tanks are being installed in cities, the population is beginning to treat waste with understanding, and a behavioral strategy has been introduced to stimulate waste recycling. In addition, the proposed technology of sorting raw materials allows you to sort up to 97% of household waste, and the rest to burn for energy. The introduction of fruit plants into a culture enriches the diversity of the species composition of the regional flora and at the same time creates an opportunity for expansion of the plant raw material base for the needs of the food industry, inclusion in a full-fledged functional nutrition of the population. Among the fruit plants of the Dniprovsk region, every year, more attention should be paid to introduced low-frequency non-traditional fruit species, in which the fruits, leaves, stems and other parts have high nutritional value and are the source of physiologically active compounds that have anti-cancer, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, carry cardio protective, antihypertensive, anti-diabetic effects, stimulate the central nervous system, etc., and can contribute to the prevention and treatment of many diseases.   Antioxidants additives in the raw materials and finished products ensures their prevention damage, reduce losses, increase shelf life and production of high quality products which keep for a long time characteristics inherent fresh, complete products. Preservation, restoration and introduction to the culture of any species depends primarily on its ability to multiply seed and vegetative methods. A comparative analysis of the fruit and seed ability of Berberis L. representatives grown in the botanical garden of Oles Gonchar’  Dniprovsky National University was carried out. The use of integrated research methods made it possible to carry out an integrated assessment of the regenerative capacity of the investigated representatives of the Berberis L. and to establish their biological ability to seed propagation depending on the seed quality of the seeds. The seeds length varied from 4.5 mm (B. canadensis) to 5.2 mm (B. declinata, B. amurensis), width was from 1.8 mm (B. amurensis, B. vulgares) to 2.1 mm ( B. coreana). The weight of 1000 seeds, which, depending on their size and completeness, amounted to an average of 10.16 grams. Largest weight 1000 pcs. seed is marked in B. coreana. As a result of the total antioxidant ability of the fruits, the species examined can be arranged in the following order:  B. koreana > B. x declinata > B. vulgaris > B. amurensis > B. canadensis. When comparing total antioxidant capacity level of the plants, the highest indices were characteristic for B. koreana and B. x declinata fruits, which exceeded the values of other species in 1.7-1.9 times. The relatively low antioxidants concentration in B. amurensis fruits is offset by a greater weight of the fruits of this species.  In order to enrich the range of ornamental and fruit plants, it is expedient to introduce into production of new crops and to expand the species diversity of Berberis L. representatives. Barberry reproduction process depends on many factors related to the environment. All investigated representatives of the Berberis L. are promising for further use in the planting system and as fruit plants that can be included in the functional nutrition of the population and use in the food industry in the conditions of the Steppe Prydniprovya.

Understanding the mechanisms by which the ocean sediment redirects impinging sound back into the ocean is necessary in developing propagation models for sonar performance prediction. The Naval Underwater Systems Center (NUSC) has (1) conducted controlled, self‐calibrating acoustic measurements where the ocean bottom interacted signal is isolated in time for analysis, (2) developed deconvolution processing techniques to aid in describing the impulse response of the ocean sediment, and (3) performed modeling to study the interaction of acoustic waves at the ocean bottom. This paper presents a synopsis of studies showing the necessity of considering the refraction of sound by the ocean sediment when predicting low‐frequency propagation loss. Constructive interference between nonplanar wave sediment refracted sound and sound reflected by the ocean‐sediment interface and subbottom layering can cause negative values of bottom loss when using plane‐wave models to interpret measured data. These models cannot account for all possible acoustic arrivals at a receiver. In addition, for a given frequency and constant ocean bottom grazing angle, bottom loss can be dependent upon both processing bandwidth and source/receiver depth. Deconvolution has aided in time resolution of signals that make up the bottom‐interacted signals. Resolution of these signals aids in interpreting results. A modeling effort utilizing the Fast Field Program (a computer technique for evaluating the field integral by the fast Fourier transform) provides quantitative evidence for the necessity of accounting for the refraction of sound by subocean sediments to interpret properly low‐frequency propagation loss measurements.
