The cross-sections for the formation of \(^{89}\)Nb and  \(^{90}\)Nb radionuclides in proton induced nuclear reactions on zirconium  were measured by using the well known activation method. The natural  zirconium (\(^{nat}\)Zr) target and copper (\(^{nat}\)Cu) monitor foils were  irradiated by 27.7 MeV proton beam at the MC50 Cyclotron of the Korea  Institute of Radiological and Medical Science (KIRAMS), Korea. The induced  gamma activities of the reaction products were measured by a coaxial high  purity germanium (HPGe) detector coupled to a PC-based multichannel  analyzer. The obtained cross sections for each nuclide are compared with  those existing in literature and with the theoretical cross sections  calculated by the TALYS - 1.4 code.

AbstractWe present an improved determination of the strange quark and antiquark parton distribution functions of the proton by means of a global QCD analysis that takes into account a comprehensive set of strangeness-sensitive measurements: charm-tagged cross sections for fixed-target neutrino–nucleus deep-inelastic scattering, and cross sections for inclusive gauge-boson production and W-boson production in association with light jets or charm quarks at hadron colliders. Our analysis is accurate to next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD where available, and specifically includes charm-quark mass corrections to neutrino–nucleus structure functions. We find that a good overall description of the input dataset can be achieved and that a strangeness moderately suppressed in comparison to the rest of the light sea quarks is strongly favored by the global analysis.

A 970 MeV proton beam has been passed through a hydrogen-filled diffusion cloud chamber located in a pulsed magnetic field, and a total of 1029 proton-proton interactions observed. The cross-sections for the possible reactions, and the angular distribution for the elastic scattering, have been determined. The effects of scanning losses on these quantities are discussed.

L X-ray production cross-sections for the elements Au, Ho, Bi and K X-ray production cross-sections for the Nb, Sn, Sb have been measured using proton beam of energy 4MeV. The experimentally measured cross sections using PIXE (Proton Induced X-ray Emission) and RBS (Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry) have been compared with the values obtained by the theoretical predictions of ECPSSR model and they are in agreement within an experimental error of 10%.
