Some aspects of the revitalization of the 14th century historical building are presented in the paper. The building was originally used as a poorhouse and a hospital for children. The original Gothic masonry building on the site was a two-storey building with a cellar, situated in a corner of two streets. In the middle of the 19th century the building was converted into a school and then the first large-scale demolition of the hospital’s Gothic walls took place. After the 2nd World War a school was also situated in the building, where it existed until the late nineties. The aim of the renovation process was to convert it into an exclusive office block. The design works were preceded by historical research and on-site investigations. Complex conversion of the object consisted in the reconstruction of the old building structure, creating the inner courtyard and covering it with a glass roof. In the existing part of the basement one of the longest single-nave vaults in Poland and the exquisite roof truss system with a lying bidding-rafter post deserved special attention during the renovation.

Modern construction techniques and good architectural views of building come with the concept of floating column. FC gives good architectural views to the structure also for the space requirement for parking or movements of vehicles floating column is delivered at the ground floor. Two models of six storey building structure with FC and structure with regular columns for the comparative study on the parameters such as flat displacement, storey drift, time period and base shear. RSA has been completed using ETABS 2016 software.

In this study, the problem of vibration control of structures involving parameter uncertainties and actuator saturation using hedge-algebras-based fuzzy controller (HAC) is presented. When structural damping and stiffness cannot always be measured easily and precisely, their uncertainties are assumed to be norm-bounded. The proposed controller is designed based on hedge algebras theory, where inherent order relationships between linguistic values of each linguistic variable, determined by isomorphisms mapping called semantically quantifying mapping based on few fuzziness parameters of each linguistic variable instead of using any fuzzy sets, are always ensured. The performance of the proposed controller is investigated by numerical simulations on active control of a benchmark three-storey building structure with active bracing system subjected to excitation of typical earthquakes. A conventional fuzzy controller, designed based on parameters similar to those of HAC, is also considered for the purpose of comparing effectiveness between controllers in order to shown advantages of the proposed method.

Transmission of train-induced vibrations to buildings located in the vicinity of the track is one of the main negative externalities of railway transport, since both human comfort and the adequate functioning of sensitive equipment may be compromised. In this paper, a 3D FEM model is presented and validated with data from a real track stretch near Barcelona, Spain. Furthermore, a case study is analyzed as an application of the model, in order to evaluate the propagation and transmission of vibrations induced by the passage of a suburban train to a nearby 3-storey building. As a main outcome, vertical vibrations in the foundation slab are found to be maximum in the corners, while horizontal vibrations keep constant along the edges. The propagation within the building structure is also studied, concluding that vibrations invariably increase in their propagation upwards the building. Moreover, the mitigation capacity of a wave barrier acting as a source isolation is assessed by comparing vibration levels registered in several points of the building structure with and without the barrier. In this regard, the wave barrier is found to effectively reduce vibration in both the soil and the structure.

Demand of construction of high-rise building is growing day by day in densely populated areas in India. In construction of tall building lateral load is main governing factor in design of tall structure. Tubular system is one of the common and popular systems. Framed tube and Bundled tube systems are commonly used systems in construction of high rise building. For designing these systems it requires accurate analysis. Here attempt has been made for 48 storey building structure using ETABS software in triangle tubes bundled system and square tubes bundled system.
