This study examined the predictors of social and emotional loneliness among college students. This study examined only female students (n = 300). The following tests were administered: Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale, Experiences in Close Relationships, Self rating Depression Scale and IPATs Anxiety scale. The average age of participants was 22.23 (SD = 1.25). Results revealed that for social loneliness, avoidant attachment, depression and factor C(-) (Ego Weakness, lack of ego strength) emerged as salient predictors. On the other hand for family loneliness, avoidant attachment and depression emerged as saline predictors whereas for romantic loneliness, avoidant attachment, anxious attachment and depression emerged as salient predictors. The present results expand the literature on attachment by presenting evidence that anxious and avoidant females experience loneliness differently.

This study aimed to explore the source of IL errors on male and female students’ pronunciation. The participants in this research were ten college students who were participated in an English speech contest organised by English Student Association of UNNES 2019. The ten participants consist of five male and five female students who came from different kinds of University in Indonesia. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data by using a video recorder as an instrument to collect the data. The result of this research showed that there were four sources of errors which influenced male and female students in producing IL errors on pronunciation. Those were L1 transfer, different form of plural between L1 and L2, the existence of sounds with the same phonetic features but different in distribution, and English foreign sounds. The second result described that the source of errors on male and female college students was mostly similar, and they had no significant differences. Last result showed that male students made more variation of IL errors on their pronunciation than female students.

Abstract This study examined three sets of psychosocial variables (love styles, perceived social support, and social and emotional loneliness) as predictors of satisfaction with love life among 357 college students from Madeira (57% females). The participants completed four scales, including the Love Attitudes Scale (LAS), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Support (MSPSS), the Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale (SELSA-S), and the Satisfaction with Love Life Scale (SWLLS). Confirmatory factor analysis supported the unidimensionality of the SWLLS among college students in Madeira region. Overall, satisfaction with love life was significantly predicted by indicators of love styles, perceived social support, and social and emotional loneliness, accounting respectively for 51%, 28%, and 60% of the variance being explained. The study provided additional evidence of the importance of love styles, social support and loneliness in satisfaction with love life.

This article analyzed the characteristics of Chinese female college students’ English conversation from the perspective of second language acquisition by using some theories of sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. After analysis, it was found that female students used hedges and intensifiers extensively in second language conversations. Additionally, the participants consciously maintained the face of their peers and made the conversation take place in an atmosphere of equality and solidarity. Through the use of deixis, the conversation was well organized and carried out smoothly. The participants changed their roles, gave and took the floors, and offered new information to prolong the conversation. Although female language had many characteristics, it cannot be fully reflected in this sample conducted in a second language.

The present study tries to find out the effect of speaking self-efficacy and gender in speaking activities particularly in English as second/foreign language situation, using questionnaire from Bandura’s Guide for constructing self-efficacy scales. The Samples of this study were 23 male and 27 female college-students from speaking classes.  ANOVA and T-test helped by SPSS 15.0 for windows were employed to investigate speaking self-efficacy, gender and speaking activities. The result showed that the level of speaking self-efficacy both male and female students is moderate. They can moderately perform speaking activities but they think them quite though and difficult. Besides, Sig. for gender scores lower than .05 (.013 < .05), gender gave significant effect towards speaking activities. Yet, not only speaking self-efficacy partially (Sig .162 > .05) but also its simultaneous interaction with gender (Sig .0677 > .05) did not affect significantly towards speaking activities.

BACKGROUND: Obesity levels have been dramatically increased in the United Arab Emirates over the last few years. High levels of body Mass Index, waist circumference, and percent of total body fat as a measure of obesity have found to be related to cardiovascular risk factors and other diseases. Neck circumference is a new tool that has been linked to obesity. However, no studies in UAE have been conducted yet.AIM: The purpose of this study was to measure the obesity levels in a college population and to correlate them with NC and other anthropometrical indexes.METHODS AND SUBJECTS: Two hundred forty three (243) female students aged 18-25 were conveniently selected to participate in the study. Anthropometrical indexes were obtained from all subjects e after fasting.RESULTS: The prevalence of overweight and obesity together was found to be 28.4 % (n = 69). Pearson correlation showed that WC, NC and BF (%) were significantly positively related to obesity, (r = 0.790; r = 0.758; r = 0.767, p < 0.001), respectively. In multiple regression analysis, only NC (Beta: 1.627, 95 %CI: 0.370, 2.846, p < 0.001) and WC (Beta: 0.464, 95 %CI: 0.135, 0.664, p < 0.001) were found to be independently associated with obesity.CONCLUSION: NC was found to be independently associated with obesity levels in Emirati college students.

The factor structure of the 20-items Arabic Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale (Arabic CES-D) and its relationship to theoretically grounded psychosocial and sociodemographic risk factors were examined in a community sample of Lebanese adults (n = 435). Two factors, Depressed Affect and Lack of Positive Affect, were empirically derived, correlating r = .35 with each other and r = .96 and r = .59, respectively, with Arabic CES-D global scores. Depressed Affect scores but not Lack of Positive Affect scores were associated with level of education and marital status but not with gender. Also, Depressed Affect scores in the collectivist Lebanese context were more strongly correlated with avoidant attachment scores than anxious attachment scores (r = .47 and r = .24, respectively; z = 3.68, p < .0001), whereas Lack of Positive Affect scores were not significantly higher in their correlation with avoidant and anxious attachment scores (r = .29 and r = .18, respectively; z = 1.62, ns). In addition, Depressed Affect scores correlated more strongly than Lack of Positive Affect scores with avoidant attachment scores but not with anxious attachment scores. These findings suggest that the Arabic CES-D scale likely taps two distinct aspects of mental health, namely, depression and well-being, such that their correlates need to be identified separately, and that the Lebanese depressed mind is undifferentiated with respect to psychological, somatic, and interpersonal expressions of depression. Finally, we discuss the implications of the findings for the use of the Arabic CES-D in the Arab world and for the universality of the Arab depressed mind.

University enrollment in China was expanded in 1999, with positive results. However, several psychological indicators of Chinese college students, such as increased anxiety across generational cohorts, have been revealed. To examine generational cohort changes in Chinese college students' depression levels from 2000 to 2017, we conducted a cross-temporal meta-analysis involving 93 studies (117 data points, N = 87,503). The results showed that, according to responses to the SelfRating Depression Scale, the depression level of Chinese college students increased by 6.04 points (SD increase = 0.66). In addition, male (vs. female) college students demonstrated increased depression. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

The study aims at identifying the awareness of female college students about the values ​​of citizenship in Islamic educational thought and the role of colleges of education in strengthening them, The study used the descriptive approach, and the study sample included a random size of (500) female students by 100 students from each university, and the study tool included four axes, the first axis dealt with the awareness of the value of Arab-Islamic culture, and the second axis dealt with the awareness of the importance of the Arabic language, and the third axis dealt with Awareness of the importance of religious events. The fourth axis dealt with the role of colleges of education, as well as relying on arithmetic averages in addition to analyzing multiple variances. All statistical treatments were done using the SPSS (v12) statistical program. The results of the field study showed that the students are very aware of the values ​​of citizenship as well as the role of the colleges of education, as all the averages approached the great end for each dimension, and the results also showed there are no statistically significant differences in the level of students’ awareness of the values ​​of citizenship and the role of colleges of education depending on the variables of the university and the division and interaction between them. In light of the results, the study made some recommendations, including that student activities must be characterized by diversity, with the participation of the largest possible number of students, the curricula should include in their content the values ​​of citizenship, such as collective spirit and commitment to the standards and regulations of society, the students’ curricula should develop the principle of freedom of expression and the culture of dialogue, the university professor’s behavior must match his ideas in educational situations and the necessity of conducting similar studies on other samples such as graduate students and female students in pre-university education stages.

To check on the possibility that relative attractiveness rather than sex of model may have been the determinant of inverse and inverted-U curves observed between ratings of variations of pupil size shown in a male and female model, 170 female students were asked to rate photographs of an attractive and an average looking male model, each of which had been altered to create a continuum of pupil sizes. The results indicated that pattern of mean ratings changed as predicted, as a function of relative attractiveness. This finding identifies a variable which may have partially confounded the results of earlier studies.

Biotin enzymes such as pyruvate carboxylase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase are involved with the most basic metabolism. Thus, it is very important to monitor the biotin nutritional status for maintaining good health. We examined urinary excretion and the intake of biotin in a Japanese sample population of 60 boys and 36 girls (10-12 y), 37 male and 135 female college students (18-27 y), and 35 female elderly persons (70-84 y) living freely. All food consumed, and the corresponding weighing, for 4 consecutive days were recorded. A 24-hour urine sample was collected on the fourth day, and the urine biotin was measured. The urine biotin at the fourth day was 57.8, 50.9, 81.0, 66.2, and 82.3 nmol/day in boys, girls, male students, female students, and elderly persons, respectively. The average intake of biotin for 4 consecutive days was 35, 31, 28, 26, and 32 μg/day in boys, girls, male students, female students, and elderly persons, respectively.
