Poverty is one of the macroeconomic indicators in which Indonesia's economic development in aggregate shows a good picture and a decrease in the poverty level of the poor, but in terms of economic structure, segments of Indonesian society are still relatively lagging behind and relatively do not get real benefits from the results of development. Magelang Regency is one of the districts that have poverty problems. This poverty problem can be overcome by developing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially in the industrial sector, where this sector is the leading sector in Magelang Regency. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of financing on the income of MSEs as customers of BMT Bima industrial business group and how the role of BMT in overcoming the problem of poverty through the functions of baitul mall and baitul tamwil. This study uses a simple linear regression analysis tool. The results obtained (1) the financing variable does not have a significant effect on the income variable of MSME customers of BMT Bima Magelang industrial business group, this is because there are still customers who use financing for personal economic activities, (2) BMT is able to reduce poverty levels by providing assistance that comes from zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf and still persists by providing financing to MSME customers of the BMT Bima Magelang industry group

With problem size and complexity increasing, several parallel and distributed programming models and frameworks have been developed to efficiently handle such problems. This paper briefly reviews the parallel computing models and describes three widely recognized parallel programming frameworks: OpenMP, MPI, and MapReduce. OpenMP is the de facto standard for parallel programming on shared memory systems. MPI is the de facto industry standard for distributed memory systems. MapReduce framework has become the de facto standard for large scale data-intensive applications. Qualitative pros and cons of each framework are known, but quantitative performance indexes help get a good picture of which framework to use for the applications. As benchmark problems to compare those frameworks, two problems are chosen: all-pairs-shortest-path problem and data join problem. This paper presents the parallel programs for the problems implemented on the three frameworks, respectively. It shows the experiment results on a cluster of computers. It also discusses which is the right tool for the jobs by analyzing the characteristics and performance of the paradigms.

Abstract This paper follows the Prandtl conception of momentum transport and gives a critical examination of the so-called Prandtl-Nikuradse formula and the von Kármán formula for the velocity distribution of the turbulent flow in tubes or channels at large Reynolds number. It shows that both formulas would not give a good picture of the turbulent flow near the center of the conduit, and indeed they actually do not. A new formula for the velocity distribution is developed from a study of the mixing-length distribution across the section. This new formula checks quite well with the experiments and yields the same skin-friction formula as derived by von Kármán and Prandtl, which itself is in very good agreement with experiments.

Aerial surveys can be used to measure the distribution of rabbit warrens over large areas of arid and semiarid Australia. Clumped patterns of distribution of rabbit warrens found by ground surveys are also detected in aerial surveys, which further show that the highest density of warrens occurs in habitats containing shales or other fine-grained rocks overlain by recent sediments, or those closely related to drainage systems. A good picture of rabbit distribution is obtained when about 25% of the area has been overed by the aircraft. * Part IV, Aust. J. Zool., 1971, 19, 355–70.

In addition to cross-sectional and methodological works, there are some reports on new technical and instrumental achievements. From a viable cytologic brush biopsy of the respiratory epithelium you can get an insight into the functional state of the epithelial cell layer, especially of the ciliated cells. We report on our experience of several hundred sampling procedures from the nasal and bronchial mucosa. The technique of the method is described, including the microphotometric apparatus to determine the ciliary beat frequency. We stress the importance of checking the ciliary beat frequency of the 10 most active cells of one preparation to get representative results. Futhermore it is decisive to watch them over a period of 10 seconds, considering the time shift of the ciliary beat frequency. Putting the cell solution into a counting chamber gives the possibility of differentiating viable and dead ciliated cells as well as squamous cells in the sample. These results proved to yield a good picture of the functional state of the sampled respiratory mucosal site.

It has been shown in former papers that if wood, even if old and dry, be placed on a photographic plate in the dark, it is able to act on it in such a way that when the plate is treated with an ordinary developing solution a clear picture of the structure of the wood is produced. Further experiments on this and allied subjects have been made, and interesting results obtained. After experimenting with a large number of woods the conclusion is that, almost without exception, they have this property of acting on a photographic plate in the dark. The amount of action exerted, however, varies very considerably with different woods, some requiring a much longer time to produce a good picture than others. The ordinary limits of time and temperature are from ½─18 hours’ exposure and from ordinary temperature to about 55° C. The time of exposure may be extended to 30 or 48 hours, but a higher temperature cannot be used, since plates, as a rule, are damaged when heated above 55° C. This action occurs both when the wood is placed in contact with the plate and when it is supported above the plate.

During my last week of collecting in the Huachuca Mts., Cochise Co., Arizona, I found, Aug. 11th, 1899, eighteen Datana larvæ on a Manzanita bush (Arctostaphylos glauca) or Western bearleaf. This larva was not known to me, and therefore I was anxions to send it to theartist who made the figures for Prof. A. T. Packard's “Bombycine Moths.” To all appearance the larvæ were nearly full-grown, and I had a negative taken of them by an ornithologist camping near by, so as to have a memento left in case they should transform before reaching their destination. Cloudy rveather and drizzling rain late in the day made it difficult to obtain a good picture. I had to mail the insects early the next morning from Fort Huachuca, which is 12 miles from Ramsey Canyon, and further delay was hazardous.

Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753) is remembered more for his activities in the spheres of science and medicine than for his original contributions to these fields. His large treatise on the natural history of Jamaica (2 vols., 1707- 1725) and other writings were useful additions to the scientific literature, but they were overshadowed by his activities as President of both the Royal Society (1727-1741) and the Royal College of Physicians (1719-1735) and by his having provided the collections which became the foundation of the British Museum. There is no definitive study on him, but the two recent biographies by De Beer and Brooks provide a good picture of his life and work (1). Sloane carried on a voluminous correspondence, and most of the letters written to him are preserved in the British Museum—largely unpublished (2). Among them are a dozen letters from Richard Bradley (1688?—5 November 1732), which throw somewhat more light on Bradley than on Sloane. They also illustrate the adverse conditions under which men without wealth have sometimes worked when pursuing scientific activities. Bradley was a prolific author of books on agriculture, horticulture, biology, and medicine. As will appear from his letters, he was often the pawn of booksellers, and John Martyn (1699-1768), his malicious rival, commented shortly after his death that ‘The booksellers have lost a good easy pad’ (3). Bradley was at times only a popularizer or a hack, but he also produced writings having scientific merit (4). Furthermore, he was a Fellow of the Royal Society and the first Professor of Botany at the University of Cambridge. His correspondence with Sloane is therefore of interest for adding to our knowledge of both men and the scientific activities of their time.
