Using data from the American Bar Association's National Survey of Career Satisfaction/Dissatisfaction (1990), the authors estimate the incidence and impact of sexual harassment in the legal profession. Nearly two-thirds of female lawyers in private practice and nearly half of those in corporate or public agency settings reported either experiencing or observing sexual harassment by male superiors, colleagues, or clients during the two years prior to the survey. Female lawyers who had experienced or observed sexual harassment by male superiors or colleagues reported lower overall job satisfaction than did those who had not, as well as a greater intention to quit. The authors speculate that employers and coworkers may sometimes be able to sexually harass female employees in ways or degrees that are not sanctionable but that induce the victims to quit. Sexual harassment may contribute to an undetermined extent to many aspects of women's employment experience, including absenteeism, turnover, productivity rates and work motivation, job dissatisfaction, and unemployment. —MacKinnon, Sexual Harassment of Working Women

Sexual harassment is an ongoing issue which unlikely to be reported by the employees who experienced. The sexual provocation towards employees are likely to be happened at the workplace despite the gender is. Previous studies revealed that, women in automotive industry are more likely to expose and experience sexual harassment as the proportion of women are less in this industry. This paper aims to investigate sexual harassment relation with employee job satisfaction. Questionnaires were distributed to employee in automotive industry in Malaysia. A total of 204 usable questionnaires were analysed. The findings indicated that sexual harassment is partially significant with employee job satisfaction. The result could assist the company in drafting policies in an organization aiming at minimizing the occurrence of sexual harassment in work place environment.

The Relationship

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between sexual harassment and job satisfaction in one of the China’s retailing company. A total of 103 respondents from one of the China’s retailing company are selected as respondents and thus data is analyzed based on the completed questionnaires. Sexual Experiences Questionnaire (SEQ) and Job Satisfaction Survey are employed as measurement tools to measure the sexual harassment and job satisfaction of employees separately. Descriptive analysis, correlations analysis and multiple regression analysis are utilized to analyze the collected data. The main findings revealed that sexual harassments, verbal conduct of sexual harassments and physical conduct of sexual harassments have a significant and negative relationship with job satisfaction and the non-verbal conduct of sexual harassment is not significantly related to the job satisfaction. The dominant element of sexual harassment is physical conduct of sexual harassment affecting on job satisfaction mostly among female employees in the organization. In addition, it is also found that the moderate level of sexual harassment creates a low level of job satisfaction in the organization. Furthermore, the dominant sexual harasser is often a colleague, followed by a superior, customer and others. Several recommendations are suggested for the company and for future researches.

Harding and Hills’s standpoint theory said that human perspectives are shaped by their social and political experiences. Gender is a social construction that acquired through interaction and changes over times. Based on that theory, this study used to analyze are the rapid increased of woman labour, gender equitymovement in economic development, may affect the the traditional view about how women and men should act and communicate, and established the new meaning of masculinity and feminity in workplace area. The conclusion showed that gender inequity still exist toward women. Women’s job position and the level of gender communication based on dimensional stereotype, discrimination, subordination, and sexual harassment are worse than men, but yet women showed no complains and reported the same level of job satisfaction compared men.Keywords: gender, communication, job satisfaction

This paper examines female executives’ experiences of ‘contra-power sexual harassment’ (CPSH) – a situation in which the abuser possesses less formal power than the abused – from male subordinates in the workplace. One hundred and fifteen respondents, consisting of 67 female executives and 48 male subordinates, were purposively selected. Two versions of a structured questionnaire, for the abused and the abuser, containing eleven sexual acts/behaviours were administered to the respondents. Additionally, four focused group discussions (FGDs) were conducted, two each with female executives and male subordinates. Data collected from the FGDs were sorted, transcribed, and reported verbatim while data from the questionnaire were analyzed, using simple frequency distributions and cross-tabulation. Female executives mostly perceived and experienced three out of the eleven sexual harassment acts – male subordinates grabbing their groins before female executives, male subordinates bragging about their sexual organs as hefty before female executives, and male subordinates bragging about their prowess in bed before female executives. Thirty-five of the male respondents reported that they grabbed their groins before female executives, 60.4% bragged of the size of their sexual organs, and 52.1% bragged of their prowess in bed. The FGDs revealed that CPSH may engender low job satisfaction, reduced commitment, and a decline in productivity; it may increase feelings of loss of control over the body, destroy gender identity, and increase the tendency to quit the job. As a way of coping with the situation, female executives ignored the acts and maintained strict formal relationships with their male subordinates. As powerful as female executives are in their positions of authority, they still remain powerless as regards CPHS.

<p>Debate about gender discrimination in public and private offices is far from been over as it remains topical. Women occupy important positions in the society and socio-economic realm especially the informal sector. Little number of highly skilled women competes with men for jobs in order to ensure regular income and other to achieve different home survival strategies, or to meet their obligations in women-headed households. Consequently, this study investigates the level of satisfaction of carrier women in terms of the job and its income. Using survey method, the study seeks to know the degree of gender discrimination in terms of income, nature of job, sex, sexual abuse and how these are affecting women’s job satisfaction. The found that whether pay inequality exist or not it does not affect women’s level of job satisfaction. It also found that 45 percent of them have been exposed to a form of sexual harassment.</p>

Abstract Background: Recently, there has been an increased demand for female radiological technologists (hereinafter referred to as female technologists) due to the spread of mammography, but there have been no previous studies on the job satisfaction of female technologists. In this study, we attempted to extract factors that affect the job satisfaction of female technologists to identify factors in the working environment that make it easy for female technologists to work. Methods: In this study, the results of a questionnaire survey of 287 female technologists in Hokkaido, conducted by the Hokkaido Radiological Technologist Organization “Furattokai”, were analyzed using Quantification Theory Type II. The factors considered were years of experience, number of duty shifts, number of technologists, male-female gender gap, number of job changes, sexual harassment, overtime, and paid holiday usage rate. Results: The results revealed that in addition to work environments where female technologists can work for a long time, the work content and relationships with male technologists, including sexual harassment, affected the job satisfaction of female technologists.Conclusions:This study extracted factors that affected the job satisfaction of female technologists as basic data for creating a working environment that makes it easier for female technologists to continue working for a long period of time, as the demand for female technologists is expected to increase in the future. The factors that strongly correlated with job satisfaction were not specific to women, as they are also common to men, including “years of experience” and “number of shifts on duty”.
