Novel mordent and disperse azo dyes were prepared by the coupling of various diazo solutions of aromatic amines with 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone. The resultant dyes were characterized by elemental analyses as well as IR and NMR spectral studies. The UV-visible spectral data have also been discussed in terms of structural property relationship. The dyeing assessment of all the dyes was evaluated on wool and polyester textile fibers. The dyeing of chrome treated (i.e., chrome mordented) wool and polyesters was also monitored. The results show that a better hue was obtained on mordented fibers. The results of the anti-bacterial properties of the chrome dyes revealed that the toxicity of these dyes against bacteria is fairly good. .

Solvent dyes have been prepared by the coupling of diazo solution of different aromatic amines with 2-hydroxy-4-n-octyloxybenzophenone. The resultant dyes were characterized by elemental analysis as well as IR and1H NMR spectral studies. The UV-Visible spectral data have also been discussed in terms of structure property relationship. The printing of all the dyes on cotton fiber was monitored. The result shows that better hue was obtained on printing on cotton fiber and it is resulted in yellow to reddish brown colorations which showed a good fastness to light, with poor to good fastness to washing, perspiration and sublimation, however it shows poor rubbing fastness.

Co(II) complex of 5-chloro-2,4-dihydroxy butyrophenoneoxime (CDHBOX) was synthesized from 5-chloro-2,4-dihydroxy butyrophenoneoxime by using standard protocol, and characterized by elemental analyses, melting point determination and spectral data. The ML2 (metal/ligand) stoichiometry of the complex was determined by spectrophotometric and potentiometric studies, and mass spectral data. The value of stability constant of the complex was found to be 6.94x 108 while its standard free energy of formation is 12.155 kcal/mol at 27ºC. Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range 2-15 ppm of Co. The value of molar extinction coefficient and sensitivity as per Sandell’s scale were found to 3.35x 103 L.mol-1cm-1and 0.017 μg Co/cm2 respectively. The value of activation energy and the Arrhenius constant Arrhenius constant were found as 4.949 kjmol-1, 74.39. The IR studies reveal that the phenolic proton is lost on complexation and the oxygen of the phenolic (–OH) and nitrogen of the oximino (=NOH) groups coordinate with Co(II) ion. The electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurement indicate that the complex is paramagnetic and tetrahedral in nature. The antimicrobial activity of different concentrations of ligand and its Co(II)-complex  has been evaluated against Curvularia lunata, Fusarium oxysporum and Alternaria alternata fungi  and Streproproteus, Staph, Escherchia coli, Klebsella, and pseudomonas bacteria. The results indicated that the ligand (CDHBOX) and its Co(II) complex have good anti-microbial properties.

A new macroacyclic amide ligand N,N?-bis(2-benzothiazolyl)-2,6-pyridinedicarboxamide (BPD), formed by the condensation of 2,6-pyridinedicarbonyldichloride with 2-aminobenzothiazole and its Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes were synthesized. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of elemental analyses, conductance measurements, magnetic moments, spectral (IR, NMR UV-Visible, EPR and FAB) and thermal studies. The complexes exhibit an octahedral geometry around the metal center. Conductance data of the complexes suggested them to be 1:1 electrolytes. The pentadentate behavior of the ligand was proposed on the basis of spectral studies. The X-band EPR spectra of the Cu(II) and Mn(II) complexes in the polycrystalline state at room (300 K) and liquid nitrogen temperature (77 K) were recorded and their salient features are reported.

Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) metal complexes of a novel Schiff base ligand (SBL) derived from condensation of 2-(4-fluorophenyl)prop-2-enaln and ethane-1,2-diamine were synthesized. All the complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-visible spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility and conductance measurements and 1H NMR. From the elemental analysis data, 1:1 [M]:[ligand] metal chloride complexes are formed having the general composition [M(SBL)Cl2] and [Cu(SBL)] Cl2, [where M = Co(II), Ni(II) and SBL= {bis-2-(4-fluorophenyl)prop-2-enaln}ethane-1,2-diamine]. The result showed that the ligand is coordinated to the metal ions in a neutral tetradentate manner with ON donor sites and the nature of metal-ligand bonding can range from covalent to ionic. Antimicrobial activities of the newly synthesized chemical compounds were evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 3160), Cabdida albicans (ATCC 227) and Staphylococcus cereviscae (ATCC 361) species and found that metal complexes exhibited more antimicrobial properties so they are more potential and significant than the ligand.

A new class of moisture stable heteroleptic titanium(IV) complexes, synthesized from 8-hydroxyquinoline of the type [(Q)2Ti(2-O-5-X-C6H3CH2NC6H4R] (3a-j), was prepared by reacting the antecedent molecule [(Q2)Ti(OiPr)2] (2) with various 2-hydroxy-N-phenyl-benzylamine analogues in 1:1 molar ratios in dry toluene (where, HQ = 8-hydroxyquinoline; iPr = isopropyl; R = H, 4-CH3, 4-OCH3, 2-Cl, 4-Cl, 2-Br, 4-Br; X= H, Br). Moisture sensitive study disclosed that these new metal complexes were unreacted for 72 h. Mass spectral data were employed for proving the mono-nuclearity of the new derivatives. Thermal decomposition pattern of the new derivatives was explained by thermogravimetric analyses. Elemental analyses data are in concordance with their expected values. The hexa-coordinated way of titanium-ligand linkage is further proved through NMR, FTIR, and UV-visible spectral studies. The cytotoxic efficiency of new complexes was tested against MDA-MB-231 human breast carcinoma cell line. Complex 3a exhibited the highest cytotoxic potential of 0.039 μM in comparison to all its analogues of this series by employing cisplatin as the standard

New complexes with the Schiff base ligand derived from S-benzyldithiocarbazate (NH2—NH—CSSCH2C6H5) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic, conductometric, ir, and electronic spectral studies. The tridentate ONS Schiff base S-benzyl-β-N-(phenyl, phenylhydroxymethyl)methylenedithiocarbazate gave mono-ligand complexes with Ni(II) and Cu(II) having the general formula [MligandX] (M = Ni(II) and Cu(II); X = NO3, Cl, Br, NCS). A proposed square-planar structure for the nickel complexes is supported by magnetic and spectral data. A square-planar structure is also suggested for Cu(II) complexes. The ir results give evidence of the different bondings present in the complexes.

Pyrimidine salts such as 2-methyl-5-nitro-phenyl-(4-pyridin-3-yl-pyrimidin-2-yl)-amine (1) and 4-methyl-3-(4-pyridin-3-yl-pyrimidin-2-yl-amino)-phenyl-amine (2) with chloranilic and picric acids were synthesized, and theirin vitroantibacterial and antifungal activities were evaluated. The synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, UV-visible, FT-IR, and1H NMR spectral studies. Compound2aexhibited good inhibition towards antimicrobial activity compared to the other compounds.

A new Mannich baseN-[morpholino(phenyl)methyl]acetamide (MBA), was synthesized and characterized by spectral studies. Chelates of MBA with cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) ions were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV spectral studies. MBA was found to act as a bidentate ligand, bonding through the carbonyl oxygen of acetamide group and CNC nitrogen of morpholine moiety in all the complexes. Based on the magnetic moment values and UV-Visible spectral data, tetracoordinate geometry for nitrato complexes and hexacoordinate geometry for sulphato complexes were assigned. The antimicrobial studies show that the Co(II) nitrato complex is more active than the other complexes.

Novel bisazo-bisazomethine disperse dyes were prepared by the coupling of diazotized solutions of various aromatic amines with 2,2'-{sulfonylbis [4,1-phenylene nitrilomethylylidene]} diphenol (SB). Above Schiff base was prepared by the condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde with 4,4’-sulphonyl- dianiline (Dapson). The resultant dyes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and1H NMR spectral studies. The UV Visible absorption spectral data were investigated in dimethylformamide (DMF) and are discussed in terms of structural property relationship. Their dyeing performance as disperse dyes has been assessed on polyester fabrics. The results show that a better hue was obtained on polyester fabrics and have mild to moderate fastness properties.
