Selection of the most appropriate non-traditional machining process (NTMP) for a definite machining requirement can be observed as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem with conflicting criteria. This paper proposes a novel hybrid method encompassing factor relationship (FARE) and multi-attributive border approximation area comparison (MABAC) methods for selection and evaluation of NTMPs. The application of FARE method is pioneered in NTMP assessment domain to estimate criteria weights. It significantly condenses the problem of pairwise comparisons for estimating criteria weights in MCDM environment. In order to analyze and rank different NTMPs in accordance with their performance and technical properties, MABAC method is applied. Computational procedure of FARE-MABAC hybrid model is demonstrated while solving an NTMP selection problem for drilling cylindrical through holes on non-conductive ceramic materials. The results achieved by FARE-MABAC method exactly corroborate with those obtained by the past researchers which validate the usefulness of this method while solving complex NTMP selection problems.

Process selection as a part of CAPP has captured significant attention in CAPP research. Procedures have been developed for backward and forward algorithms in process selection. Most of these procedures lack the complete integration of process selection into CAPP system. In this paper, we present the results of the development and prototype implementation for process selection module for hole making operations for integration with Math Based Manufacturing System already in use in industrial partner. We have developed architecture and implemented module for rule-based machining process selection of hole making operations. The architecture enables the interface from the Process Selection prototype to Math Based Manufacturing System (APPS). The prototype also includes the user interface for interaction with the process selection procedure. Actions for starting prototype from APPS, performing process selection steps and sending the result back to APPS have been developed and implemented.

Selection of the most suitable non-conventional machining process (NCMP) for a ceramics machining represents a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. This paper describes the application of relatively novel MCDM methods for selecting the most suitable NCMP for the ceramics machining. By applying WASPAS and COPRAS methods, ten NCMPs (alternatives) were ranked based on the ten criteria. Comparison of obtained ranking performances with other MCDM methods used by previous researchers was carried out in order to demonstrate WASPAS and COPRAS applicability and capability for non-conventional machining process selection.

The preparation of fragmented or particulate ceramic materials for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examination has traditionally been difficult, particularly if a durable, permanent specimen is desired. Furthermore, most established methods for dealing with micron- and submicron-sized samples (e.g., dispersion in plastic films) do not permit selection of orientations or ion thinning. A technique has been developed that is useful for a variety of materials, permits the selection of specimen orientation, is compatible with ion milling requirements, and produces a durable specimen that can be reexamined later if necessary.

In the past few decades, there has been lot of focus on the issue of sustainability. This has occurred due to the growing concerns related to climate change and the growing awareness about environmental concerns. Also, the competition at global level has led to the search for the most sustainable route in the industries. The current research work deals with the selection of green supplier in a Nickle coating industry based on certain weighted green attributes. For this purpose, a hybrid tool comprising of Fuzzy AHP (Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy) and VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) is used. The Fuzzy AHP is used for assigning proper weights to the selected criteria for supplier evaluation, while VIKOR is used for final supplier selection based on the weighted criteria. The three criterions for green supplier selection are, Ecological packaging, Corporate socio-environmental responsibility and Staff Training. The outcome of the integrated model may serve as a steppingstone to other SMEs in different sectors for selecting the most suitable supplier for addressing the sustainability issue.

Evidence-based assessment relies on research and theory to inform the selection of constructs to be assessed for a specific assessment purpose, the methods and measures to be used in the assessment, and the manner in which the assessment process unfolds. An evidence-based approach to clinical assessment necessitates the recognition that, even when evidence-based instruments are used, the assessment process is a decision-making task in which hypotheses must be iteratively formulated and tested. In this chapter, we review (a) the progress that has been made in developing an evidence-based approach to clinical assessment in the past decade and (b) the many challenges that lie ahead if clinical assessment is to be truly evidence-based.

AbstractUsing brain atlases to localize regions of interest is a requirement for making neuroscientifically valid statistical inferences. These atlases, represented in volumetric or surface coordinate spaces, can describe brain topology from a variety of perspectives. Although many human brain atlases have circulated the field over the past fifty years, limited effort has been devoted to their standardization. Standardization can facilitate consistency and transparency with respect to orientation, resolution, labeling scheme, file storage format, and coordinate space designation. Our group has worked to consolidate an extensive selection of popular human brain atlases into a single, curated, open-source library, where they are stored following a standardized protocol with accompanying metadata, which can serve as the basis for future atlases. The repository containing the atlases, the specification, as well as relevant transformation functions is available in the neuroparc OSF registered repository or https://github.com/neurodata/neuroparc.

The uses and management of capital is extremely important to the operation of any businesses. However, not all businesses have available capital, so the use of loans in many different forms is always an effective solution in managing corporate finance. Accompanying with businesses, many financial leasing companies have implemented products and programs to lend money to businesses with low interest rates. So, choosing the best financial leasing company is a primary concern of businesses. To increase competitiveness, financial leasing companies often offer preferential conditions to attract businesses. Choosing the best financial leasing service to leasing is important and necessary to those businesses. Thus, the selection of a financial leasing company by small and medium enterprises benefits from the application of Multicriteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods which allows the decision maker to consider various qualitative and quantitative criteria. In this article, the author applied Fuzzy Analytical Network Process (FANP) to calculate the related criteria weights of the financial leasing company selection problem of businesses. Then, the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is applied to rank the potential decision-making units. This research establishes one complete and efficient model for financial leasing company selection using FANP and TOPSIS methods. The proposed model is then applied into a real-world case study to demonstrate its feasibility.

Turn-milling is a hybrid machining process which used benefits of interrupted cutting for proceeding of round bars. However, number of controllable parameters in the hybrid process is numerous that makes optimizing the process complicated. In the present study, an optimization work has been proposed to investigate the trade-off between production rate and cutting force in roughing regime as well surface roughness and tensile residual stress in finishing regime. Number of 43 experiments based on response surface methodology was designed and carried out to gather required data for development of quadratic empirical models. Then, the adequacy and importance of process factors were analyzed using analysis of variances. Finally, desirability function was used to optimize the process in rough and finish machining regimes. The obtained results showed that selection of eccentricity and cutter speed at their maximum working range can effectively enhance the quality characteristics in both the roughing and finishing regimes.

The need to develop an in vitro method to simulate ruminal digestion of protein foods has long been recognized. An in vitro method must be more rapid, consistent and convenient than in sacco methods. Purified enzymes have been examined in the past to estimate in vitro degradability of protein foods (Poos-Floyd et al., 1985; Aufrere et al., 1991; Luchini et al., 1996) or their fractions (Chaudhry and Webster, 1994). However, the selection of an appropriate enzyme for a range of foodstuffs remains to be realized. This study examined the potential of two enzymes and a centrifuged rumen fluid (CRF) to estimate proteolysis of food proteins.
