The paper presents a retrospective analysis of the concept of waste-free stores in Russia. The main feature of a waste-free store is described: the need to use reusable containers for purchases. The advantages and disadvantages of waste-free stores for visitors and operators are presented in the form of a 2x2 strategic table. The impact of the pandemic on their activities is further discussed. It is recommended to change the service model from self-service to over-the-counter trading during the pandemic. Using the example of the “B12 Zero Waste” store, the possibility of creating a waste-free online store is considered. Actions that reduce the cost of creating a web representation and organizing delivery were discussed. It is emphasized that an online store is necessary for any commercial enterprise in the current conditions. It is noted that the integration of the two most relevant trends in retail (e-commerce and greening) can be a real breakthrough. The authors point out that waste-free stores simultaneously reduce the amount of discarded packaging, but significantly increase the cost of detergents and fresh water, so the waste-free concept cannot be called completely eco-friendly. The survey revealed that in Russia, most visitors have a positive attitude to the waste-free model of the store. Depending on the factors that motivate customers to make a purchase, a waste-free store can be divided into two groups: environmentally responsible and economical.

BACKGROUND Health-related social media data are increasingly being used in disease surveillance studies. In particular, surveillance of infectious diseases such as influenza has demonstrated high correlations between the number of social media posts mentioning the disease and the number of patients who went to the hospital and were diagnosed with the disease. However, the prevalence of some diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, cannot be estimated based on the number of patients alone. Specifically, patients with allergic rhinitis self-medicate by taking over-the-counter (OTC) medications without going to the hospital. Although allergic rhinitis is not a life-threatening disease, it is a major social problem because it reduces patients’ quality of life, making it essential to understand its prevalence and the motives for self-medication behavior. OBJECTIVE To help understand the prevalence of allergic rhinitis and the motives for self-care treatment using social media data, this study investigated the relationship between the number of social media posts mentioning the main symptoms of allergic rhinitis and the sales volume of OTC rhinitis medications in Japan. METHODS We collected tweets over four years from 2017 to 2020 that included keywords corresponding to the main nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis: “sneezing,” “runny nose,” and “stuffy nose.” We also obtained the sales volume of OTC drugs, including oral medications and nasal sprays, for the same period. We then calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient between time series data on the number of tweets per week and time series data on the sales volume of OTC drugs per week. RESULTS The results showed a much higher correlation (0.8432) between the time series data on the number of tweets mentioning “stuffy nose” and the time series data on the sales volume of nasal sprays than for the other two symptoms. There was also a high correlation (0.9317) between the seasonal components of these time series data. CONCLUSIONS We investigated the relationships between social media data and behavioral patterns, such as OTC drug sales volume. Exploring these relationships would be useful as a marketing indicator to predict sales volume using social media data. In future, in-depth investigations are required to cover other diseases and countries. Introduction: Due to their strong, multidirectional anti-inflammatory activity, intranasal glucocorticoids are the mainstay of treatment in rhinosinusitis, including acute rhinosinusitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, as well as allergic rhinitis. Owing to its high systemic safety and high anti-inflammatory efficacy, mometasone furoate – a new-generation intranasal glucocorticoid – was approved in 2019 as an over-the-counter medication for Polish patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. Scientific societies and expert groups recommend the use of intranasal glucocorticoids in a much broader range of indications. In February 2020, an updated version of the European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps (EPOS 2020) was published. Aim: This article discusses the role of nasal glucocorticoids in regimens used in the treatment of nasal sinusitis as published in EPOS 2020 with Polish country-specific realities being taken into account.
