We study the information content of corporate bond rating changes regarding future earnings and dividends. Consistent with previous findings, rating downgrades are associated with negative abnormal stock returns, while rating upgrades appear to be nonevents. For downgrades, earnings decline in the two years prior to and the year of the rating change announcement but increase in the year after the rating review. We also find that rating downgrades are followed by a subsequent downward adjustment in dividends. While rating upgrades follow a period of rising earnings, they do not signal any increase in future earnings and no subsequent dividend adjustments are observed. Overall, our results indicate that rating agencies respond more to permanent changes in cash flows and provide little information, if any, about future cash flows.

The problem in this research is the need for fast and accurate information in the format of the presentation of financial statements resulting in the distribution of information, and data management can be problematic. Therefore, a format for financial reporting systems, namely Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), was formed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of XBRL technology, stock prices, Return on Assets (ROA), and institutional ownership on market efficiency (information asymmetry and stock trading volume). The population and sample of this study are banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2015-2016. The sampling method using a purposive sampling method and obtained a sample of 42 companies. Data collection techniques are carried out by taking data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange website (www.idx.co.id) and the site http://finance.yahoo.com. Data were analyzed with multiple regression tests after being declared normal with the normality test and though using SPSS 20. The results of this study simultaneously stated that XBRL technology, stock prices, ROA, and institutional ownership together have an influence on information asymmetry and stock trading volume. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that XBRL technology, stock prices, ROA, and institutional ownership cause a decrease in the level of information asymmetry and trading volume. This result also states that the company is in excellent condition when the value of information asymmetry decreases, but it is not good when the trading volume of its shares also decreases. Keywords: XBRL Technology; Stock Prices; Market Efficiency; Information Asymmetry; Stock Trading Volume.

This study identifies Indonesian investors’ reactions to the drop in stock prices on the Indonesia Stock Exchange market, during the early months of the COVID-19 crisis, before and after the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that its global spread constitutes a pandemic. It also explores variables that influence stock returns on this market during the financial crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses a regression analysis of 70 firms, listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange to examine the pandemic’s influence on trading volume, market capitalization, profitability, and book value for the period December 31, 2019, to April 30, 2020. The results show that stock returns were lower in the early period of the financial crisis caused by the pandemic. Firms’ trading volumes, profitability and book values positively affected stock returns and their market capitalization negatively affected stock returns during the study period. This study contributes useful insights to the finance literature and stock-market participants in terms of dealing with stock markets during financial crises. This study recommends that in any crisis investors should begin buying stocks or increasing their stock purchases to achieve abnormal returns by choosing stocks that perform well in terms of firm profitability and book value by looking a number of financial factors.

Investments on the capital market depend on the current political situation of the country, as well as on the movements of the global economy. In countries with unstable political situation, the performance of the stock exchange declines, unlike politically stable countries, where stock exchange operation is carried out continuously, the stock exchange is a mirror and a barometer of general developments in a society. The economic crisis that spread all around the world in 2008, triggered the strongest negative effect on the capital markets, both on the trading volume and on securities’ prices. Prices of securities were falling overnight and stock indices also. In most cases an absurd situation occurred, where although companies showed good financial results and had promising investment activities, stock prices were still falling because of the euphoric panic that investors would lose their ventures, so they sought to take the last chance to save what can be saved. Macedonian capital market, although relatively young, experienced its flourish in 2006 and 2007, but also felt and still feels the effects of the global economic crisis. The beginning of that negative impact was first felt in the last quarter of 2007, and was more evident in 2008 and onwards. The numbers were most disappointing in 2013 both in terms of trading volume and in terms of number of transactions.

This study aims to determine the effect of stock prices, trading volume, and variance of return on the bid-ask spread in companies that do stock splits listed on stock exchanges in Southeast Asia in 2018. In this study the sampling technique used was nonprobability purposive sampling so that produced a total of 248 companies with 26 companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, 10 companies on the Philippines Stock Exchange, 56 companies on the Malaysia Stock Exchange, 18 companies on the Singapore Stock Exchange, 48 companies on the Thailand Stock Exchange and 90 companies on the Vietnam Stock Exchange. This study uses multiple regression methods using Eviews 10 to process data. The results of the study indicate that on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, stock prices have a negative and significant effect on the bid-ask spread, trading volume has no significant negative effect on the bid-ask spread, variance returns have a positive and insignificant effect on the bid-ask spread. On the Philippine Stock Exchange, stock prices have no significant negative effect on the bid-ask spread, trading volume has a positive and significant effect on the bid-ask spread, variance returns have a positive and insignificant effect on the bid-ask spread. On the Malaysia Stock Exchange, stock prices have a negative and significant effect on the bid-ask spread, trading volume and variance returns have a positive and significant effect on the bid-ask spread. On the Singapore Stock Exchange, stock prices and trading volume have a negative and significant effect on the bid-ask spread, variance returns have a positive and insignificant effect on the bid-ask spread. On the Thailand Stock Exchange, stock prices have a negative and significant effect on the bid-ask spread, trading volume and variance returns have a positive and significant effect on the bid-ask spread. ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of stock trading volume and stock prices on bid-ask spreads on manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The population in research is 155 companies and by using purposive sampling as sampling technique, then the sample in this research is 46 company. The data used are secondary data and use multiple regression equation as an analytical tool. Based on the results of the research it can be argued that, trading volume and stock prices have a negative and significant effect on the bid-ask spread both before and after the data grouping. The results also show that stock trading in Indonesia Stock Exchange is liquid. Investors or potential investors who want to invest in the capital market should make trading volume and stock price as a reference in making investment decisions, because simultaneously these two variables have a significant effect on bid-ask spreads.

The Difference

This study aims to determine the difference in the trading volume activity, stock prices and abnormal returns before and after the announcement of a stock split. The population of this study are all companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange that take corporate action in the form of stock split at period 2017-2018. Sampling using purposive sampling. Based on the sampling criteria predetermined number of samples acquired 24 stocks. The analytical method used is the analysis Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with the observation period (event window) is 14 days. The results showed that there were differences in the trading volume activity and stock prices before and after the announcement of stock split, while the last hypothesis showed that there were no differences in abnormal returns before and after the announcement of stock split.
