AbstractThe phenomenon of hijrah is becoming a trend among youth today. This study is aims to find out the persuasive communication strategies of Terang Jakarta, an Islamic youth community, to persuade youth to do hijrah through new media (social media), non-media, and their relevance to Islamic persuasive communication. This study uses qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The results of this study are that three persuasive communication strategies can be applied both in new media and non-media. New media serves as the first gate of Tabligh, where the uses of graphics design and language are the main focus. Afterwards, non-media or face-to-face communication used as a continuation of da’wah through new media, is easier to build emotional relationships and persuasive youth here. Then, the psychodynamic strategy is the most strategies that can be applied both through new media and non-media.

This article explores how strategic communication, public diplomacy, international governmental broadcasting, and social media networking can be brought together in a system of strategic influence and global engagement. The analysis offers a contrasting approach to various views of public diplomacy or strategic communication which privilege one form of governmental influence over others and treat partial aspects of national persuasion as complete pictures of government communication aimed at foreign audiences. Because so much of public diplomacy literature today emphasizes social media, it is necessary to determine how specific tools of influence such as international broadcasting, can be used in ways that fit new thinking in public diplomacy as well as continuously emerging new media ecologies.

Contemporary society has fostered a period of transformation in religious communication. Globalisation propels a communicated religion that forges a dialogue with its followers and with society as a whole. In this chapter, we aim to describe the existing situation, analysing religions as a social fact in a global society that is shaped by the movement of people and the proliferation of (traditional and new) media channels. From this perspective, religious institutions are viewed as living organisations that must accept the current context and need to develop a strategic communication plan. The chapter begins with a review of a theoretical corpus on religion, communication, and society, intersecting various reflections with theories of strategic communication and crisis communication. It aims to respond to the following question: how can religious institutions use strategic communication in the contemporary world? This is a qualitative investigation, empirically supported by interviews with two prominent figures from the Catholic Church, as a case study. The principal results of this research, based on the observation of contemporary society, include the importance of correct use of new media for strategic communication, and continuous training in order to improve strategic communication plans, that should operate on a continuous basis.

New media technologies provide new venues for political communication enabling politicians to wage a permanent campaign. Participatory platforms have paved the way for new forms of political communication during non-election period when those seeking or holding office can increase media coverage, create their public image and foster deeper relationships with the public. The purpose of the paper is to contribute to the discussion on permanent campaign; specifically, the study focuses on presenting the method of embracing new media technologies (in particular Twitter) by politicians’ during a non-election period in Poland. The analysis aims to investigate online activity, the design of Twitter profiles and the implementation of campaign-like techniques by the politicians. The findings shed light on the Polish MPs’ application of participatory platforms as a tool of strategic communication used to increase media visibility, and share messages across in a one-way communication.

Social-media consultants and strategic communication firms have promoted the use of social media by organizations because of their supposed advantages for developing relationships and online communities around the brand. However, critics have challenged these supportive voices because of organizations’ limited control over the sites’ design and the lack of demonstrated return on investment for social-media endeavors. Using the 26 National Football League (NFL) teams with an official Facebook presence, this study compares how public relations practitioners use the NFL teams’ Web sites and Facebook pages to cultivate relationships with fans using stewardship strategies promoted by public relations literature. Results indicate that the NFL teams overwhelmingly favor their own Web sites for relationship-building endeavors over Facebook for 27 of the study’s 33 measures. Explanations for the divergence from consultants’ advice are discussed and grounded in new-media and sports communication research from various scholarly perspectives.

Investment in strategic communication, and especially in advertising, in the fash- ion design industry remains a prerequisite for promoting the brand value. The effectiveness of brand visibility and awareness depends mostly on advertising, both in the context of fash- ion magazines and the new media, and in the context of the outdoors medium, which is si- multaneously one of the most traditional and modern means of mass communication.  This paper aims to analyse and discuss both dimensions. Firstly, it aims to provide an un- derstanding of how the urban landscape is built into fashion advertising, and especially to investigate the extent to which the collective imagination contributes to that process. This research therefore seeks to identify the main landscape referents represented and search for the respective association with various cultural and artistic universes, such as literature, pho- tography or cinema. Underlying this critical reflection is an understanding that landscape is not just a simple decor, but conversely an extremely important visual and discursive re- source for the advertising message. Secondly, this paper attempts to challenge the implica- tions of fashion brands outdoor advertising specifically in relation to the urban landscape and to the everyday life experience. Therefore, it is also an important aim of this article to dis- cuss outdoor advertising within the scope of the more recent cultural and aesthetic trends. In order to achieve the stated objectives and engage in a scientific discussion of the topic, the case of the fashion brand Donna Karan New York – DKNY was selected, as it is considered to be paradigmatic of the main operational principles and hypotheses researched.
