Abstract Petroleum product needs to be stored and transported from various sources before they get to the final consumers, there by requiring storage tanks. Calibration of storage tank by dry and wet strapping process have evolved over the years with state-of-the-art facilities. The calibration charts are used to determine and know the volume of fluid in a tank given the height of the petroleum products stored in the tank. Calculating volume of a tank with the integration method has a lot of sources of error thereby affecting the result of the volume calculated and causing losses in revenue due to inaccurate calibrated tanks. With the losses in revenue due to wrong computations or computational errors, a fast, dynamic and cost-effective solutions become imperative to solve these computation problems. The tank charts having been delivered for daily usage and fiscalization process after the tank strapping process, calculation errors need to be minimized in order to report accurately petroleum products in stocks, which is a function of temperature, density and volume correction factor. This paper aims to solve the problem by semi automating the process of calculating total volume of product in stock with error free results. Approach in this paper was used and test run for a storage facility X. This paper shows how calculations from calibrated tanks can be done with a virtual method using excel spreadsheet and converted into a software for effective use and making percentage error almost zero. The results obtained from this method of computation were error free and devoid of human errors.

Petroleum and its refined products are considered the most complex contaminants frequently impacting the environment in significant quantities. They have heterogeneous chemical composition and alterations occur during environmental weathering. No single analytical method exists to characterize the petroleum-related environmental contamination. For monitoring, the analytical approaches include gravimetric, spectrometric and chromatographic methods having significant differences in their selectivity, sensitivity and cost-effectiveness. Recording fluorescence fingerprints of the cyclohexane extracts of the water, suspended solids, sediment or soil samples and applying appropriate statistical evaluation (e.g. by correlating the concatenated emission spectra of the fingerprints of the samples with arbitrary standards (e.g. petroleum products)), provides a powerful, cost-effective analytical tool for characterization of the type of oil pollution and detecting the most harmful aromatic components of the petroleum contaminated matrix. For monitoring purposes, the level of the contamination can be expressed as the equivalent concentration of an appropriate characteristic standard, based on the fluorescence intensities at the relevant characteristic wavelengths. These procedures are demonstrated in the monitoring of petroleum-related pollution in the water and suspended sediment in the Danube river basin

This paper is concerned with the socio-spatial and ethical politics of redistribution, specifically the allocation of natural resources rents from political and economic cores to the economic and geographical peripheries whence the resource originated. Based on a case study of the coal seam gas sector in Queensland's Surat Basin, this paper focuses on the operation of the Queensland State Government's regional development fund for mining and energy extraction-affected regions. Employing an environmental justice framework, we critically explore the operation of these funds in ostensibly helping constituent communities in becoming resilient to the worst effects of the ‘staples trap’. Drawing on secondary demographic and housing data for the region, as well as primary information collected from key respondents from mid-2018 to early 2019, we show that funds were distributed across all of the local government areas, and allocated to projects and places primarily on a perceived economic needs basis. However, concerns were raised with the probity of the funds’ administration. In terms of recognition justice, the participation of smaller and more remote towns and local Indigenous communities was hampered by their structural marginalisation. Procedurally, the funds were criticised for the lack of local consultation taken in the development and approval of projects. While spatially concentrated expenditure may be the most cost-effective use of public monies, we argue that grant application processes should be open, transparent and inclusive, and the outcomes cognisant of the developmental needs of smaller communities, together with the need to foster regional solidarity and coherence.

High-type roads in Tanzania have been predominantly of asphaltic concrete construction. This ever enlarging and ageing asphaltic road network represents increasing resource requirements on the road agency in the form of maintenance. Limited resources coupled with the ever sky-rocketing costs of petroleum products and the competing demands of social economic developments, presupposes the need to look for alternative road construction technology that is more cost-effective and resource optimising. Experience gained from developed and some developing countries where concrete pavements have been widely used suggests the potential of this type of pavement in many developingcountries. This paper discusses the technical aspects of design and construction- and maintenance-related aspects of concrete pavements. The discussion extends further to highlight issues pertaining to the performance of concrete pavements and strategies for promoting the use of concrete pavements in Tanzania. Conclusions and recommendationsare made with suggestions on how to start implementing the proposed strategies.

<pre><pre>Significant proportion of the total energy expenditure for the heat treatment of raw materials are heat losses through the shell of rotary furnace. Currently, the waste heat is not used in any way and escapes into the environment. Controlled cooling system for rotary furnace shell (<span>CCSRF</span>) is a new solution integrated into the technological process aimed at reducing the heat loss of the furnace shell. Based on simulations and experiments carried out was demonstrated a significant effect of controlled cooling shell to the rotary furnace work. The proposed solution is cost-effective and operationally undemanding.</pre></pre>
