Even rough groupings of individuals according to education and occupation reveal marked differences in opinions. What explains the relation between position in the social structure and political views? Building on the work of French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu's theory on social praxis and his three-dimensional class concept, the article answers this question. A Bourdieu-inspired analysis reveals larger social differences in opinion formation than previous studies. Even within an apparently homogenous group of political science students there are clear and systematic differences in opinions that can be traced back to the individual student's social background. The article also shows that the ability to articulate an opinion is socially conditioned.

The marginalization of society is one of the most acute problems of modern Russia leading to a slowdown of the development of social and human capital. World practice shows that the  social  atmosphere  serves  as  a  necessary  environment  for  the  self-realization  of  the individual and the disclosure of the natural potential inherent in it. The social background sets certain standards for a person’s self-expression, promotes the conversion of his talents in the economic and cultural spheres and it is an integral part of the process of forming a  civil  society.  If  modern  education,  high-quality  medicine  or  high  culture  stimulate  the development  of  human  capital,  then  crime,  poverty  or  social  diseases,  on  the  contrary, suppress its growth. The article shows the versatility of marginalization, explains its main causes and regional specifics. A system of indicators and a methodology for evaluating this phenomenon are proposed. The author presents an attempt to link a number of statistical indicators of social exclusion with the most striking characteristics of social marginalization. On  this  basis,  a  methodology  for  assessing  the  marginalization  of  regional  societies  is developed, the heterogeneity and regional specifics of this phenomenon are shown and the main factors of geographical, economic, cultural and institutional origin that cause reduced or increased values of marginalization are identified.

Social conflict among community in Indonesia has often happened. In this research we will show that social conflict among community is not always involving two different community about their social background: Community of Dalong Society and Tanah Dereng. They have familial relationship, living in the same economic stratification and their religion is same also. Based on the community characteristic, we attempt to explain the causing of the conflict with using the social change approach in relation with conception of Max Weber about authority. According to Weber there are three ways in which power is commonly transformed into authority: traditional authority, rational-legal authority and charismatic authority. To explain the community conflict in our case, we used conception about traditional and rational-legal authority. Directing by these conception, we analyzed that the conflict happened in one side because of changing in traditional authority. There were groups of community member has not obedience to chief of traditional community, and the other side the government has not ability to operate the legal rule.

In the modern world, structural constructs of the social space of objective socialization are changing. Its main feature is the determining potential of social maturity of individuals in the conditions of instability, uncertainty, capable of mastering a really important meaning in determining the effective position of a person, the abilities and opportunities in relation to the realization of objective tasks, to overcome existing contradictions, to be a real active member of modern society. In the article, the author reveals the content and features of the concepts of "professional socialization of the individual", "professional socialization of the future teacher-pedagogue". Under socialization, the process of the inclusion of a person growing into society through the assimilation and reproduction of the personality of social experience historically accumulated by humanity culture, is meant. Under the professional socialization of the individual we understand the process of its adaptation to the conditions and characteristics of professional formation. Under the professional socialization of the future teacher-pedagogue, we mean mastering the socio-professional experience in a purposeful, specialized organization, which manifests itself  as a set of all educational influences. Pedagogical activity is characterized by a focus on others, orientation on social norms. Therefore, the professional socialization of the teacher has its own specificity, which manifests itself primarily in reducing self-actualization and increasing prosociality.

During the last twenty or twenty-five years medieval historians have been much interested in the composition of the English episcopate. A number of studies of it have been published on periods ranging from the eleventh to the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. A further paper might well seem superfluous. My reason for offering one is that most previous writers have concentrated on analysing the professional circles from which the bishops were drawn, and suggesting the influences which their early careers as royal clerks, university masters and students, secular or regular clergy, may have had on their later work as bishops. They have shown comparatively little interest in their social background and provenance, except for those bishops who belonged to magnate families. Some years ago, when working on the political activities of Edward II's bishops, it seemed to me that social origins, family connexions and provenance might in a number of cases have had at least as much influence on a bishop's attitude to politics as his early career. I there fore collected information about the origins and provenance of these bishops. I now think that a rather more careful and complete study of this subject might throw further light not only on the political history of the reign, but on other problems connected with the character and work of the English episcopate. There is a general impression that in England in the later middle ages the bishops' ties with their dioceses were becoming less close, and that they were normally spending less time in diocesan work than their predecessors in the thirteenth century.

This paper is concerned by a possible articulation between the diversity of individual opinions and the existence of consensus in social representations. It postulates the existence of consensual normative boundaries framing the individual opinions. A study by questionnaire about the social representations of the development of intelligence gives support to this notion.

Three personal reflections provided by doctoral students of the Michigan School of Professional Psychology (Farmington Hills, Michigan) address identification of individual perspectives on the tragic events surrounding Trayvon Martin’s death. The historical ramifications of a culture-in-context and the way civil rights, racism, and community traumatization play a role in the social construction of criminals are explored. A justice orientation is applied to both the community and the individual via internal reflection about the unique individual and collective roles social justice plays in the outcome of these events. Finally, the personal and professional responses of a practitioner who is also a mother of minority young men brings to light the need to educate against stereotypes, assist a community to heal, and simultaneously manage the direct effects of such events on youth in society. In all three essays, common themes of community and growth are addressed from varying viewpoints. As worlds collided, a historical division has given rise to a present unity geared toward breaking the cycle of violence and trauma. The authors plead that if there is no other service in the name of this tragedy, let it at least contribute to the actualization of a society toward growth and healing.

This volume provides the first comprehensive overview of the extant Greek and Latin letter collections of late antiquity (ca. 300-600 C.E.). Bringing together an international team of historians, classicists, and scholars of religion, it illustrates how letter collections advertised an image of the letter writer and introduces the social and textual histories of each collection. Nearly every chapter focuses on the letter collection of a different late ancient author—from the famous (or even infamous) to the obscure—and investigates its particular issues of content, arrangement, and publication context. On the whole, the volume reveals how late antique letter collections operated as a discrete literary genre with its own conventions, transmission processes, and self-presentational agendas while offering new approaches to interpret both larger letter collections and the individual letters contained within them. Each chapter contributes to a broad argument that scholars should read letter collections as they do representatives of other late antique literary genres, as single texts made up of individual components, with larger thematic and literary characteristics that are as important as those of their component parts.
