Calyptranthes conduplicata, C. vexata, Eugenia moritziana, E. pusilliflora, Marlierea suborbicularis, Myrcia crispa and M. subcordifolia are new records for the Brazilian flora. All species except Eugeniamoritziana, recorded from Espírito Santo state, are reported for the first time in Brazilian Amazonia.

Xanthacrona Wulp, 1899 has been recorded in several countries of South America, but records in Brazil are few. Here, we record Xanthacrona tuberosa Cresson, 1908, Xanthacrona phyllochaeta Hendel, 1909, and Xanthacrona tripustulata Enderlein, 1921 for the first time from Brazil, and provide new records of Xanthacrona bipustulata Wulp, 1899 from the states Acre, Amazonas, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Roraima, and São Paulo.

The male of Radulphius lane Bonaldo & Buckup, 1995 from São Paulo Atlantic Forest, is described for the first time. Radulphius baiaxaba Bonaldo & Buckup, 1995 from Bahia/Espírito Santo is synonymized with R. laticeps Keyserling, 1891 for southern Brazil. New records of both species are presented.

Twenty three new state records of Cerambycidae are provided for Espírito Santo State, Brazil. Forgotten geographical records for Desmiphora (Desmiphora) cirrosa Erichson, 1847, and Cipriscola fasciata (Thomson, 1860) are mentioned. Notes on Metacriodion capixaba Fragoso, 1970, Potiaete maculata Martins & Galileo, 1999, and Eriphus mexicanus Audinet-Serville, 1834 are presented. The female of Trestonia grisea Martins & Galileo, 1990 is described for the first time. Stenoeme annularis Martins, 1980 is redescribed and a key to species of Stenoeme is provided. Four new species are described from the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo: Microibidion fiuzai, Iquiracetima venturai, Adesmus culiki, and Xenofrea simplicioi.

The occurrence of the species of the genus Brycon (Characiformes: Bryconidae) in Espírito Santo State is herein reviewed. Brycon opalinus, a species formerly known only from the upper rio Paraíba do Sul and upper rio Doce basins, is recorded for the first time in the rio Itapemirim, an independent coastal basin in southern Espírito Santo State, Brazil. With the records of B. opalinus, four Brycon species are now known from Espírito Santo State: B. insignis in the rio Itabapoana basin, on the boundary between Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, B. opalinus in the rio Itapemirim basin, B. dulcis in the rio Doce basin, and B. ferox in the rio Barra Seca, rio Itaúnas and the rio São Mateus basins. Additionally worth highlighting is that several fisherman and local inhabitants report the occurrence Brycon vermelha in the rio Cotaxé, a tributary of the rio São Mateus in Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states, although there are no preserved specimens of B. vermelha from river basins other than the rio Mucuri, in Minas Gerais state.

Espírito Santo is a Brazilian state that has a wide variety of habitats, providing a high biological diversity of fauna and flora. However, few reports had been shown about the insect diversity of this region, especially of heteropterans insects that inhabit on pasture ecosystems. In the present study, forty-three species of Heteroptera belonging to thirteen families were collected on pastures on Espírito Santo state, Brazil: Alydidae (1 sp.), Berytidae (3 sp.), Blissidae (1 sp.), Coreidae (7 sp.), Miridae (16 sp.), Nabidae (1sp.), Pentatomidae (3 sp.), Pyrrhocoridae (1 sp.), Reduviidae (6 sp.), Rhopalidae (1 sp.), Rhyparochromidae (1sp.), Thaumastocoridae (1 sp.) and Tingidae (1 sp). Among the species; Cebrenis tenebrosa (Brailovsky, 1995) is recorded for the first time in Brazil. The range extension is also included for several heteropterans collected on the Espírito Santo state. The following species: Blissus aff. antillus (Leonard, 1968); Collaria oleosa (Distant, 1883); Oebalus ypsilongriseus (De Geer, 1773), and Trigonotylus tenuis (Reuter, 1893) were observed causing damages on pastures, therefore, in this study, we suggested those species as potential pastures pests. This study aims to increase the knowledge about the heteropterans and to show the presence of some pest species that may cause serious damage to pastures and consequently affect the economy of cattle breeders on the state.

Abstract Leptophlebiidae is the family with the most diversity of species and wide distribution in the Southern Hemisphere. There are 95 species of Leptophlebiidae recorded in Brazil, but for the state of Bahia there are only 21 species. A check list and new records of Leptophlebiidae (Ephemeroptera) are presented to the State of Bahia. A total of 16 genera and 40 species of Leptophlebiidae were identified on this study. The species Fittkaulus cururuensis, Hylister obliquus, Miroculis (atroari) duckensis and Miroculis (Ommaethus) froehlichi are reported for the first time to the State of Bahia, increasing the number of Leptophlebiidae species from 21 to 25. Now, the Bahia is one of the states with the largest number of Leptophlebiidae species records, behind only of the state of Espírito Santo which has 26 species of this family.

New host plant and geographic distribution records are presented for 22 scale insect species of six families collected in the Brazilian states of Espírito Santo, Ceará, and Pernambuco during 2006 to 2009. Nine species, Aclerda takahashii Kuwana, 1932, Ceroplastes cirripediformis Comstock, 1881, C. acutus Peronti, 2008, C. stellifer (Westwood, 1871), Howardia biclavis (Comstock, 1883), Insignorthezia insignis (Browne, 1887), Dysmicoccus texensis (Tinsley, 1900), Nipaecoccus cf. nipae, and Planococcus halli Ezzat, 1962, are registered for the first time in Espírito Santo, and this is the initial record of Aclerdidae in this state.

The Brazilian genus Eumydas Wilcox & Papavero, 1971 (Diptera: Mydidae: Apiophorinae) is herein revised. Three species are recognized: the type-species E. corupas Wilcox & Papavero, 1971, E. itapiruba sp.n. and E. wilcoxi (Papavero, 1976) comb.n. The female of E. wilcoxi is described for the first time. The known geographical range of the genus is expanded, with new records from Santa Catarina and Espírito Santo states in Brazil. An identification key is provided for the species.

Collembola have significant influences on soil microorganisms and fertility but information on these ecologically important arthropods is lacking, especially in agricultural and tropical environments. This research was conducted to identify Collembola species present in the soil of papaya orchards in Espírito Santo, Brazil, and to compare the effect of conventional and integrated production on Collembola in this Neotropical environment. Soil samples (4.8 cm diameter, 10 cm deep) were collected in February, May, August and November 2003, from papaya orchards managed with conventional production (including pesticide application based on little or no pest monitoring or consideration of environmental impact) and integrated production (including selective pesticide application only when necessary based on regular pest monitoring) in one experimental site with three treatments (conventional; integrated with drip irrigation; integrated with microsprinkler irrigation) and four commercial orchards (two with conventional and two with integrated production). Berlese-Tullgren funnels were used to extract Collembola from the soil samples. Averaged over the sampling dates, collembolan densities of the orchards ranged from 14023 to 56001 Collembola per m². In the experimental site, the species Willemia brevispina, Folsomina cf. onychiurina, Folsomides cf. centralis, Folsomides parvulus, Cyphoderus cf. similis, and Neelus cf. minimus were more abundant with integrated versus conventional production. However, this difference was not apparent in commercial orchards sampled. Results indicate that relatively high populations and diverse communities of Collembola occur in the soil of papaya orchards in Espírito Santo but no collembolan species were found to be consistent biological indicators of conventional or integrated production. The species Acherontiella colotlipana, Willemia brevispina, Brachystomella agrosa, Friesea sublimis, Pseudostachia sp.1, Mesaphorura amazonica, Arlea sp.1, Salina sp.1, and Sphaeridia cf. pumilis are new records for the state of Espírito Santo, and Acherontiella colotlipana and Friesea sublimes, are new records for Brazil.

Based on material collected during the past 10 years in the State of Espírito Santo and adjacent areas in Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil, we identified three species of the genus Thraulodes: T. itatiajanus Traver & Edmunds, for which we present new records and description of the female imago; T. luisae Souto, Da-Silva & Nessimian, first recorded for the state and for which we describe the nymphal stage; and T. alegre sp. nov., described based on male and female imago. The main diagnostic characteristics of the new species are: color of abdominal terga I–VI whitish translucent, terga II–VI with subrectangular dark brown mark near posterior margin and with midway spot; styliger plate triangular and whitish; penes light yellow, with lateral pouch and penes spines long and tapered, with robust bases.
