This paper proposes a compositional analysis of the meaning of Japanese daroo-utterances with declarative and interrogative force, and final rising and falling intonation. Daroo is analyzed in a framework for speech act felicity as an operator lowering the quality threshold for felicitous assertion. The conveyed meanings of conjecture, confirmation, and doubt uses of darooutterances are predicted from modification of the respective speech act types’ felicity conditions by daroo.

Tindak tutur komisif merupakan salah satu aspek pragmatik yang harus diperhatikan oleh penerjemah ketika menerjemahkan teks. Hal itu dilakukan agar menghasilkan terjemahan yang berkualitas dari aspek keakuratan dan keberterimaan. Berdasarkan alasan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan mendiskripsikan tingkat keakuratan dan keberterimaan terjemahan kalimat yang mengakomodasi tindak tutur komisif dengan pendekatan pragmatik. Data yang digunakan ialah tuturan komisif dan hasil penilaian kualitas terjemahan. Data bersumber dari novel Insurgent karya Veronica Roth dan informan. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara analisis dokumen, kuesioner dan Focus Group Discussion. Selanjutnya, data dianalisis dengan cara analisis domain, taksonomi, komponensial, dan tema budaya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terjemahan dalam novel Insurgent mempunyai nilai keakuratan dan keberterimaan yang cukup tinggi. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tingkat keakuratan dan keberterimaan pada setiap jenis tindak tutur komisif memiliki dampak terhadap kualitas keseluruhan terjemahan kalimat yang mengandung tindak tutur komisif.Commissive speech act is one of the pragmatic aspects to regard by the translator in translating the text. It aims to produce a qualified translation in regarding accuracy and acceptability aspects. According to the aspects, this research aims to describe accuracy and acceptability of translation in sentences which accommodate commissive speech act using pragmatic approach. The data used is commissive speech and qualitative translation value result. The sources of the data are an Insurgent novel by Veronica Roth and informants. The data were collected through document analysis, questionnaire, and Focus Group Discussion then analyzed the domain, taxonomic, componential analysis, and cultural theme. The result shows that translation in the Insurgent novel has high accuracy and acceptability values. This research concludes that the accuracy and acceptability level in each commissive speech act has an impact on quality of whole translated sentences which contain commissive speech act.

This research wasqualitative, and conducted by using the descriptive method. The soutce of data was thePresidential Candidate Election Debate of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019. The researchresults of speech maxim violation in the Presidential Candidate Election Debate of theRepublic of Indonesia in 2019 consist of 5 research problems, which are: (1) the form ofquantity of maxim violation, (2) the form of quality of maxim violation, (3) the form of relevanceof maxim violation, (4) the form of method of maxim violation, and (5) the functions of speechacts of maxim violation. The form of quantity maxim violation consists of statements containinganswers that comprise the information needed. The form of quality maxim violation consists ofstatements that contain answers which are less convincing, and contain answers which aresimilar or agree to the questions, and also contain answers which the evidence is not true. Theform of relevance maxim violation consists of statements which contain answers that are notrelevance with the questions and contain the contents of the correct answer but are notrelevance. The form of method maxim violation consists of statements which containambiguous answers, and contain long and wordy answers. The function of the speech acts hasfour functions: Representative function which consists of statements of affirmation, conclusion,and facts. Expressive function consists of statements of praise, difficulty, happiness, andmisery. Semantic web service compositions must be aligned with requirements from the target users in terms of quality requirements. Given a set of quality requirements, one can choose to either find the optimal composition or a “good enough” composition, which satisfies these requirements. Since optimizing compositions of semantic services under quality constraints is known to be NP-hard, it is unsuitable for realistic problems within large search spaces. The authors address the issue by using the “good enough” approach, selecting the first composition that passes their quality threshold. Firstly, this paper defines quality constraints within an innovative and extensible model designed to balance semantic fit (or functional quality) with quality of service (QoS) metrics. The semantic fit criterion evaluates the quality of semantic links between the semantic descriptions of Web services parameters, while QoS focuses on non-functional criteria of services. User quality requirements are met by selecting a valid composition. To allow the use of this model with a large number of candidate services as foreseen by the strategic EC-funded project SOA4All the authors formulate the selection problem as a Constraint Satisfaction Problem and test the use of a stochastic search method.

The development of pragmatic strategy in the journalistic process has an effect on the image of the person who has been reported. Directly or not, imaging of political figures to public figures is influenced by pragmatic strategies packed with journalists in the news media. Political figures until the public figure collaborate to create an interesting impression. An interesting impression or positive image will change the concept of society over this overnight assessment. The higher the pragmatic power journalists developed in writing the news, the better the quality of the news will be. In accordance with the results of pragmatic strategy research on Headline news on Republika.co.id can be concluded that in the creation of news headlines have implemented pragmatic strategy. The dominant pragmatic strategy used is the illocution act. The illusionary strategy becomes dominant because the news content that is headlined is dominated by political and economic news. So the development of explaination techniques more highlighted.

ObjectiveTo determine whether informed consent for surgical procedures performed in US hospitals meet a minimum standard of quality, we developed and tested a quality measure of informed consent documents.DesignRetrospective observational study of informed consent documents.Setting25 US hospitals, diverse in size and geographical region.CohortAmong Medicare fee-for-service patients undergoing elective procedures in participating hospitals, we assessed the informed consent documents associated with these procedures. We aimed to review 100 qualifying procedures per hospital; the selected sample was representative of the procedure types performed at each hospital.Primary outcomeThe outcome was hospital quality of informed consent documents, assessed by two independent raters using an eight-item instrument previously developed for this measure and scored on a scale of 0–20, with 20 representing the highest quality. The outcome was reported as the mean hospital document score and the proportion of documents meeting a quality threshold of 10. Reliability of the hospital score was determined based on subsets of randomly selected documents; face validity was assessed using stakeholder feedback.ResultsAmong 2480 informed consent documents from 25 hospitals, mean hospital scores ranged from 0.6 (95% CI 0.3 to 0.9) to 10.8 (95% CI 10.0 to 11.6). Most hospitals had at least one document score at least 10 out of 20 points, but only two hospitals had >50% of their documents score above a 10-point threshold. The Spearman correlation of the measures score was 0.92. Stakeholders reported that the measure was important, though some felt it did not go far enough to assess informed consent quality.ConclusionAll hospitals performed poorly on a measure of informed consent document quality, though there was some variation across hospitals. Measuring the quality of hospital’s informed consent documents can serve as a first step in driving attention to gaps in quality.

Fifty-nine Japanese college students of English at two different proficiency levels were evaluated for their ability to produce a speech act of request in a spoken role play task. Learners’ production was analyzed quantitatively by rating performance on a six-point scale for overall appropriateness, as well as qualitatively by identifying the directness levels of the linguistic expressions used to produce requests. Results revealed a significant L2 proficiency influence on overall appropriateness, but only a marginal difference in the types of linguistic expressions used between the two proficiency groups. Moreover, grammatical and discourse control encoded in the rating scale seemed to have affected the quality of speech acts.

Abstract. The objectives of this study are Analysis of techniques, methods, and ideologiesused by translator on translation form and function directive illocutionary of speech act and to assess the quality of translation form and function directive illocutionary of speech act used in bilingual comic Baby Blues siaga satu anak pertama from accuracy, acceptability, and readability of translation aspects. This research was a descriptive, qualitative, and embedded research of translation. The finding of this study shows; first, 273 data of directive illocutionary utterances applied 11 function, such as commanding, asking, asserting, inviting, requesting, ordering, advicing, suggesting, urgeing, rejecting, forbiding, recommending, reminding, and convinceing. Second, 273 data of directive illocutionary utterances analyzed, translation technique identified 248 data oriented to source language and 163 data oriented to target language. Thirth, concerning with translation quality of directive illocutionary speech act utterance in comic Baby Blues siaga satu anak pertama can be concluded that the translation is accurate. In this case is showed from 255 data constitute the translation accurate, 17 data less accurate, and 1 data not accurate, 254 data acceptability, 18 data less acceptability, and 1 data not acceptability, then 161 data high readability, 97 data medium readability, and 15 data low readability translation. <p><em>Using descriptive qualitative method, this paper aims to identify the forms of mitigation of criticizing speech acts in two novels entitled To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set A Watchman, to identify translation technique used and to describe the quality of translation of expressions mitigating speech act of criticizing in those novels. Data used were linguistic units (words, phrases, clauses, or sentences) represented mitigation types of criticizing speech act. The findings indicate that there were two mitigation types of speech act criticizing, namely external and internal. Expressions mitigating speech act of criticizing from those novels mainly had an equivalent message in Source Text (ST). Translation techniques applied to translate mitigation forms in criticizing speech act imply the translator’s competence in conveying the message of Source Text. Thus, it will impact on shifting meaning or even level of politeness.</em></p>

<p><em>ABSTRACT</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>This research discusses about how a certain </em><em>technique can impact on the </em><em>quality of </em><em>translation in the statements of responding toward </em><em>arguing</em><em> speech act</em><em>. It aims to determine the impact of choosing a </em><em>certain micro </em><em>technique of translation toward the quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This research can be classified as a descriptive qualitative research which focuses on a single case. The source data of this research is the novel Allegiant, its translation</em><em> in Indonesian</em><em>, and the two raters. Then, the data are collected from the statement that respond</em><em>s</em><em> toward arguing. </em><em>Furthermore</em><em>, </em><em>Focus Group Discussion that has been done by two raters and the researcher is used to assess</em><em> the three aspect</em><em>s</em><em> of translation quality and determine the micro technique</em><em> that has been applied to translate the statement that responds arguing speech act</em><em>.</em><em> </em><em>The result of this research </em><em>is that</em><em> the application of</em><em> micro</em><em> technique of translation </em><em>that </em><em>is </em><em>mostly applied is established equivalent</em><em> technique that has been applied 172 data</em><em> 52,9 % that has been influenced the quality of translation because </em><em>he </em><em>total average of quality translation is 2,97 that is considered as a good translation</em><em>. In other words, </em><em>the establish equivalent </em><em>has a good impact toward quality of translation</em><em> toward statement that responds of arguing speech act</em><em>.</em></p><p><em> </em></p>
