AbstractEconomic globalization in modern times has led to an increase in economic inequality, not only between countries but also inwardly thereof, and job insecurity, among other things. The International Labour Organization (ilo) has developed a proposal known as Decent Work, as an alternative to move towards greater equality, promoting minimum conditions for workers to meet their basic needs, work in the framework of existing legislation, and promoting the right to union participation. By taking as an example the case of Mexico, this paper discusses how economic globalization has contributed to the deepening of inequalities between countries and within them. Also, it analyzes the conditions of decent work at the country level and in the Northeast (Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas) and South (Chiapas, Guerrero and Oaxaca) of Mexico, where there are large contrasts, showing the areas where policies can be applied to improve the quality of jobs and thus move towards greater equality.Key words: globalization; inequality; labor precariousness; decent work index; regions.

Abstract. Pharmaceutical innovation is the basis of the health sector, since it constantly improves the quality of life of the human being. Schumpeter have influenced notably the theories of innovation, stating that economic development is driven by it, speaking of the dynamic process in which new technologies replace the old ones and that feed the process of change. On the other hand, the Research and Development (R&D) process manages the returns on investment, allowing demonstrating how profitable the innovation process can be. In Mexico, the signs of innovation have remained on the side of foreign companies, while Mexican companies have settled for the majority of the generic market. This quantitative study collects data on the perception of experts in the pharmaceutical field, mostly students of the biotechnology pharmaceutical chemistry career at the Universidad del Valle de México, in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, using surveys based on the OECD manuals for innovation and R&D, comparing both the quality of innovation and the R & D process in Mexican companies and foreign companies. The perception of the students intuits the current context of the pharmaceutical industry in Mexico. The study shows a great relationship between the variables and a disparity of perception between foreign and Mexican companies.Key words: pharmaceutical companies, pharmaceutical innovation, research and development (R&D)JEL: O310, O320.Resumen. Palabras clave: empresas farmacéuticas, innovación farmacéutica, investigación y desarrollo (I+D)

Objective . To determine the social perception on childhood overweight and obesity for the purpose of generating communication strategies that would prevent it through changes in behavior. Materials and methods : A descriptive study using a qualitative research method that involved focus groups with children, teachers and parents. The type of analysis was argumentative. The study was conducted from January to May 2013 in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Results : There is a most diffrent social perception among focus groups on the quality of life and happiness of children, with parents and teachers referring to food in relation to children happiness when it is provided as a reward or to compensate for bad experiences or lack of emotional attachment, while children refer to family harmony as the main cause for making them happy. Conclusions : The social perception reveals the importance of social or symbolic interaction processes. Therefore, the objective of the communication strategy must address the associated factors in preventing obesity through symbolic elements of these groups, taking into account the senses and meanings related to basic stimuli that trigger behaviors related to obesity

The source of a large outbreak of foodborne disease related to Salmonella-contaminated jalapeño peppers has been traced to Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The objective of this work was to evaluate the microbiological quality of tomatoes and jalapeño peppers from markets and supermarkets from the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. One hundred sixty samples (40 bola tomatoes, 40 saladette [Roma] tomatoes, 40 serrano peppers, and 40 jalapeño peppers) were purchased. Stems from peppers were removed and analyzed separately. Samples were analyzed for indicator organisms and Salmonella, following the Mexican Official Methods. The results showed that the presence of indicator organisms varied among samples and origins, and levels were relatively high in peppers (average 4.4 to 4.7 log CFU/g for total mesophilic, 3.25 to 3.73 log CFU/g for total coliforms, and 1.69 log CFU/g for fecal coliforms). Saladette tomatoes and serrano peppers showed the greatest microorganism levels (~1 log CFU/g higher) in comparison with the other varieties. Pepper stems typically had indicator microbial levels ~1 to 2 log CFU/g higher than levels in smooth flesh. Only one tomato and one jalapeño sample were positive for Salmonella. However, in the case of the pepper, the contamination was found in the stem. Although the microbiological quality of tomatoes and peppers sampled was similar to that found in markets from developed countries, the presence of pathogens causes a risk of infection for consumers.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify levels of self-compassion in adults who do and do not stutter and to determine whether self-compassion predicts the impact of stuttering on quality of life in adults who stutter. Method Participants included 140 adults who do and do not stutter matched for age and gender. All participants completed the Self-Compassion Scale. Adults who stutter also completed the Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering. Data were analyzed for self-compassion differences between and within adults who do and do not stutter and to predict self-compassion on quality of life in adults who stutter. Results Adults who do and do not stutter exhibited no significant differences in total self-compassion, regardless of participant gender. A simple linear regression of the total self-compassion score and total Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering score showed a significant, negative linear relationship of self-compassion predicting the impact of stuttering on quality of life. Conclusions Data suggest that higher levels of self-kindness, mindfulness, and social connectedness (i.e., self-compassion) are related to reduced negative reactions to stuttering, an increased participation in daily communication situations, and an improved overall quality of life. Future research should replicate current findings and identify moderators of the self-compassion–quality of life relationship.

Purpose Misophonia is a sound tolerance disorder condition in certain sounds that trigger intense emotional or physiological responses. While some persons may experience misophonia, a few patients suffer from misophonia. However, there is a dearth of literature on audiological assessment and management of persons with misophonia. The purpose of this report is to discuss the assessment of misophonia and highlight the management option that helped a patient with misophonia. Method A case study of a 26-year-old woman with the complaint of decreased tolerance to specific sounds affecting quality of life is reported. Audiological assessment differentiated misophonia from hyperacusis. Management included retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy based on the principles described by P. J. Jastreboff and Jastreboff (2014). A misophonia questionnaire was administered at regular intervals to monitor the effectiveness of therapy. Results A detailed case history and audiological evaluations including pure-tone audiogram and Johnson Hyperacusis Index revealed the presence of misophonia. The patient benefitted from intervention, and the scores of the misophonia questionnaire indicated a decrease in the severity of the problem. Conclusions It is important to differentially diagnose misophonia and hyperacusis in persons with sound tolerance disorders. Retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy can help patients who suffer from misophonia.
