In the present work the effect of natural biostimulators and different doses of slow disintegrating fertilizer on the quality of rosemary seedlings was studied. Rosemary seedlings were produced in containers, according to the 'speedling system'. During the production of seedlings natural biostimulators Megafol and Viva and microbiological fertilizer Slavol were added. The applied biostimulators made a significant effect on the quality of rosemary seedlings. Different doses of the slow disintegrating fertilizer Scotts (Osmocote Extact) were applied (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 g/l), which also produced a significant influence.

Apresenta breve revisão bibliográfica sobre a composição química e as propriedades antimicrobianas do óleo essencial de alecrim. Enfoca aspectos gerais, usos, atividade contra bactérias e fungos em alimentos e as principais substâncias do óleo de alecrim oriundo de diferentes países. Conclui que os compostos oxigenados são os responsáveis pelas atividades fisiológica e antimicrobiana, mas há discordância sobre os compostos majoritários, ora hidrocarbonetos ora oxigenados. ROSEMARY (Rosmarinus officinalis L.): ESSENTIAL OIL ANTIMICROBIAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Abstract This article presents a brief review on the chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of the rosemary essential oil. It focuses general features, uses, antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi in foods and the major compounds of the rosemary oil from different countries. Concludes that physiologic and antimicrobial activities are due to oxygenated compounds, but there is discordance about the major components if hydrocarbon or oxygenated monoterpenes.

This study reports on the chemical compositions of the essential oil of Rosmarinus officinalis L. (Rosemary) grown in Mersin, Turkey. The essential oil of rosemary was obtained by hydrodistillation method, and the yield of rosemary oil was found to be about 1.2 % (v:w). The hydrodistilled volatile oil was analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques. Forty-five components were identified in the essential oil of R. officinalis, which represented 100% of the total essential oils. The oxygenated monoterpenes content possessed the highest value, 64.78% of the oil, among which eucalyptol (33.15%) and camphor (10.31%) were the most abundant components. In addition, the oil contained mainly monoterpene hydrocarbons, sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, oxygenated sesquiterpenes, and diterpenes. The least amount of diterpenes were found in the content of the oil. Isopimara-9 (11),15-diene (0.14%) and α-springene (0.06%) were two compounds determined as diterpene compounds.

Rosmarinus officinalis L. is a traditional herb with various therapeutic applications such as antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, and anticholinesterase activities, and can be used for the prevention or treatment of dementia. In the present study, we tested whether Rosmarinus officinalis L. could counteract scopolamine-induced anxiety, dementia, and brain oxidative stress in the zebrafish model and tried to find the underlying mechanism. Rosmarinus officinalis L. essential oil (REO: 25, 150, and 300 µL/L) was administered by immersion to zebrafish (Danio rerio) once daily for eight days while scopolamine (100 µM) treatment was delivered 30 min before behavioral tests. The antidepressant and cognitive-enhancing actions of the essential oil in the scopolamine zebrafish model was measured in the novel tank diving test (NTT) and Y-maze test. The chemical composition was identified by Gas chromatograph–Mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The brain oxidative status and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was also determined. REO reversed scopolamine-induced anxiety, memory impairment, and brain oxidative stress. In addition, a reduced brain AChE activity following the administration of REO in scopolamine-treated fish was observed. In conclusion, REO exerted antidepressant-like effect and cognitive-enhancing action and was able to abolish AChE alteration and brain oxidative stress induced by scopolamine.

Climate change caused by global warming and the increase in consumption due to rapid population growth are threatened its existence by causes decrease of water from natural resources. Since most of the usable water in the World is evaluated in agriculture, the water needs of plants need to be met in the most accurate and economical way. In this context, super absorbent polymer (SAP) application is one of the methods that provide efficient and economical usage of water. In this research, different doses of super absorbent polymer SAP A200 [0% (control), 0.2%, 0.4% ve 0.6% v/v] applications were applied in conventional (soil) and growth media conditions [peat, perlite and peat:perlite (1:1) v/v]. It was aimed to determine the effects of SAP A200 doses on plant growth of Anatolian Sweetgum Tree (Liquidambar orientalis Mill.) and Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) species. The study was established with randomized plot design with 3 replications. In order to determine plant growth characteristics, plant height, stem diameter, root length, root thickness, fresh and dry weight values of roots and shoots were determined. For the two species used in the study, it was observed that all SAP doses had positive effects on plant growth parameters and the best results were obtained in 0.6 % SAP A200 application. It was determined that plant growth values were higher in all growth medias except soil and the best results were obtained in peat: perlite media.

Plant's essential oils have a wide range of allelopathic effects with potential uses as bioherbicides. In addition, the application of oils through nanoemulsions represents a promising alternative for agriculture, as it offers better performance and lowers toxic waste generation. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the chemical constitution of Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) essential oil, as well as its effects on germination, initial growth, Catalase (CAT), Peroxidase (POX), and Superoxide-Dismutase (SOD) enzymes activity of Lactuca sativa seeds. Nanoemulsions were produced at 5% concentration and then diluted with distilled water to 5.0, 7.0, and 10.0 mg/mL. We compared data obtained using variance (ANOVA) analysis, followed by Tukey's test at 5% probability. Rosemary oil showed a wide variety of terpenoid compounds, mainly the 1,8-cineol monoterpene, which accounted for 46% of the sample. The oil showed a dose-dependent negative allelopathic influence on all variables analyzed, causing a drop in germination percentage (%G), germination speed index (GVI), mean germination time (MTG), and leaf and root length. There was no change in CAT and SOD activity. The POX activity showed a reduction starting at the concentration of 7.0 mg/mL. The results showed allelopathic effects of rosemary oil, with potential use as a natural bioherbicide.
