The purpose of this paper was to synthesis new mixed-ligand Cu(II) and Co(II) metal complexes utilizing bidentate and tridentate donor hydrazones derivatives as primary ligands and o-vanillin as co-ligand. The obtained compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, Infrared, UV-Vis., 1H-NMR, Mass spectra, molar conductance, thermal analysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy (ASS). Spectroscopic analysis results indicated that the hydrazone ligand (L1) behave as tridentate (ONO) and forms metal complexes having distorted square planar geometry. While the ligands (L2, L3 AND L4) behave as bidentate (NO) and forms metal complexes having octahedral geometry around the central metal atoms. The antimicrobial potentials were assessed for the ligand (L2) and its metal complexes only and were screened against six types of bacterial strains and one fungal strain. The antimicrobial activities results of the tested compounds showed enhanced activity of the complexes over their parent ligands.

Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) homo binuclear Schiff base metal complexes were synthesized from terephthalaldehyde and 2-amino-4-chlorophenol in methanol using template method. The structure of the ligand and its metal complexes were established by elemental, molar conductance, UV, magnetic moment, IR, 1H & 13C NMR, EPR, mass, thermal and PXRD. Molar conductance values showed that all complexes were non-electrolytic in nature. The IR spectral data provides the coordination of azomethine nitrogen and oxygen with central metal ion. UV, ESR and magnetic moment values suggest square planar geometry for Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes. TGA and DSC analysis data show the thermal stability of the ligand and its metal complexes. The crystalline nature of ligand and its metal complexes were investigated by powder-XRD. The DNA cleavage activities of all the complexes assayed on PUC18 DNA shows nuclease ability.

Complexes of carboxymethyl-N-methyl-N-phenyl dithiocarbamate (DTC) with cobalt(II), nickel((II), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes were synthesized in 1:2 molar ratio with general formula [M(DTC)2],{M=Co(II)/Ni(II)/Cu(II)/Zn(II)} and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, infrared and electronic spectra. The ligand structure was confirmed by 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum. The measured molar conductance values indicate the non-electrolytic nature of the metal complexes. The elemental analysis, infrared, electronic spectra and magnetic moment suggest that the coordination of DTC occurred through sulphur and oxygen atom as a bidentate. The cobalt(II) and zinc(II) complexes were found to coordinate in a tetrahedral geometry and complexes and nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes coordinate in a square planar geometry. Thermal analysis was carried out to ascertain the thermal stability of the metal complexes. By using powder XRD measurements, the lattice parameters, space group and grain size were determined. The scanning electron microscope images reveal the surface morphology of the metal complexes.

Titanium(IV) complexes of type[(η5-C5H5)2TiCl(L)] have been synthesized by the reactions of bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV)dichloride with Schiff bases (LH) derived by the condensation of 5-(substituted aryl)-2-hydrazino-1,3,4-oxadiazole and indoline-2,3-dione in tetrahydrofuranin the presence oftriethylamine. All these complexes are soluble in PhNO2, DMF and DMSO.The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, electrical conductance, magnetic susceptibility, UV-Vis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, XRD and SEM spectral techniques. Low molar conductance values indicate that they are non-electrolytes. The spectral data indicate5-coordinate geometry for the complexes.XRD pattern indicate that the complexes have monoclinic crystal system and particle sizes were found 49.36 nm (nano-size). In vitro antifungal activity of synthesized compounds was evaluated against fungi Aspergillusniger, Aspergillusflavus,ColletotrichumfalcatumandIn vitro antibacterial activity was determined by screening the compounds against gram negative (P. aeruginosa, S.typhi) and gram positive (S. aureus and B.subtilis) bacterial strains using minimum inhibition concentration method (MIC) by serial dilution technique. The titanocene(IV) complexes have higher antimicrobial effect than the parent Schiff bases.

Novel tetra dentate Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), VO(II) and Zn(II) Schiff base complexes have been synthesized from salicylidene-4-iminoantipyrine and tyrosine. The synthesized Schiff base complexes was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction studies (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FT-IR, ESR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV-vis, molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The general formula of complexes was confirmed as [ML] type [M = Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Ni(II) and VO(II); L = C27H24N4O4]. Magnetic susceptibility, IR and UV-vis, spectral data showed that all the complexes have square planar geometry except vanadyl complex which suggests square pyramidal geometry. Lower molar conductance values proved that all the chelates were non-electrolytic nature. The X-band ESR spectra of [CuL] and [VOL] complexes in DMSO solution suggest that the complexes were predominant covalent character. Powder XRD and SEM image pattern evidenced that all the compounds were crystalline in nature and their size ranges from 100-40 nm. Calf thymus DNA binding potential of [CuL] and [VOL] complexes shows that the binding occurs through intercalation mode with low binding constant. The analgesic, CNS, antiulcer and antimicrobial activities of the investigated compounds report reveals that the chelates were significant effect than free Schiff base.

A bidentate (N- and O-) imine-based ligand (L1) and its metal complexes of types [CuII(L1)2] (C1), [CuII(L1)(Phen)] (C2), [CoIII(L1)2] (C3), and [CoIII(L1)(Phen)] (C4) (L1 = 2-((E)-(6-fluorobenzo[d]thiazol-2-ylimino)methyl)-4-chlorophenol and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized as potential chemotherapeutic drug candidates. The prepared complexes were structurally characterized by spectral techniques (NMR, FT-IR, LC-MS, EPR, and electronic absorption), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTA), magnetic moment, and CHNO elemental analysis. Spectroscopic studies suggested the distorted octahedral structure for all complexes. In vitro bioassay studies include binding and nuclease activities of the ligand and its complexes with target calf thymus- (CT-) DNA were carried out by employing UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, viscosity, and gel electrophoresis techniques. The extent of binding propensity was determined quantitatively by Kb and Ksv values which revealed a higher binding affinity for C2 and C4 as compared to C1 and C3. In addition, the scavenging superoxide anion free radical (O∙-2) activity of metal complexes was determined by nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) light reduction assay. Molecular docking studies with DNA and SOD enzyme were also carried out on these compounds. The antimicrobial study has shown that all the compounds are potential antibacterial agents against Gram-negative bacterial strains and better antifungal agents with respect to standard drugs used.

Mixed ligand complexes of bis(phenyldithiocarbazato)nickel(II) with triphenylphosphane and a number of ditertiary phosphanes have been synthesised. The complexes were characterised on the basis of molar conductance, magnetic moment values, electronic and IR spectra. Out of the five prepared com plexes the mixed ligand complexes with triphenylphosphane and bis(diphenylphosphino) m ethane are paramagnetic, the mixed ligand complexes with bis(diphenylphosphino) ethane, -propane, and -butane are diamagnetic. The complexes were assigned octahedral, square planar or square pyramidal structures. The biological activities of the complexes were also tested.

This paper reports the synthesis and detailed characterisation of copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes with tridentate thiosemicarbazone ligands H2L1 and H2L2 derived from 2-acetylpyrazine. The ligands and their metal complexes were characterised by different physicochemical techniques, including elemental and thermogravimetric analysis; UV-Vis, IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy; molar conductance measurements; and mass spectrometry. The crystal structure of the H2L1 ligand was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The spectral data showed that the thiosemicarbazone behaves as an NNS tridentate ligand through the nitrogen atoms of the azomethine group and pyrazine ring and the sulphur atom of the thioamide group. Elemental and thermal analyses indicated that the obtained metal complexes had a 1 : 1 stoichiometry (metal-ligand). The interactions between these complexes and calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) were studied by electronic absorption and viscosity measurements. The activities of these compounds against oxidative DNA cleavage were examined by agarose gel electrophoresis. Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes can wind DNA strands through groove interactions and promote strand breakage of the plasmid pmCherry under oxidative stress conditions. Moreover, all the complexes could interact more strongly with DNA than could with the free ligands. Finally, the antibacterial activities of the ligands and their complexes were determined by in vitro tests against Gram-positive bacterial strains (S. aureus ATCC 25923, L. monocytogenes ATCC 19115, and B. cereus ATCC 10876) and Gram-negative bacterial strains (E. coli ATCC 25922, S. typhimurium ATCC 14028, and K. pneumoniae ATCC BAA-2146) using the broth microdilution method. The metal complexes showed greater antimicrobial activities than the precursor ligands against some of the microorganisms.

Mononuclear metal complexes of the type [ML1]Cl2 (where, M = = Cu(II), Co(II) or Ni(II) and L1 = ligand) were synthesized by the reaction of a new N4 coordinating ligand, derived from diacetylbisethylenediamine with benzoic acid, and the corresponding hydrated metal chloride salts. The metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, melting point determination, molar conductance and magnetic moment measurements, IR, UV-Vis, 1H- and 13C-NMR, and ESR spectroscopy. The ligand and all the metal complexes were stable in the solid state at room temperature. From the analytical and spectroscopic investigations, the stoichiometry of the complexes was found to be 1:1 (metal:ligand). Based on the electronic spectra and magnetic moment data, the metal complexes had a square planar geometry. The molar conductance values show the 1:2 electrolytic nature of the metal complexes. A cyclic voltammetric study of the Cu(II) metal complex has also performed, which showed one electron quasi-reversible reduction around -0.92 to -1.10 V. In vitro biological activities of the ligand and metal complexes was checked against two bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli and two fungi Aspirgillus niger and A. flavus which showed the antibacterial and antifungal properties of the ligand and its metal complexes.
