This study was conducted to investigate the wound healing effect of the ethanol extract of Acalypha indica in different parts of the body. Two set of cutaneous wounds were created on an individual rat. A set of wound consisted of a 5mm wound on dorsum and a 5mm wound on hind limb. The wound on left side was treated while the right side acted as control. Three rats were euthanized every 3 days, which was on day 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 after wounding. The body weight of the rats were recorded and skin samples were obtained for histopathology. Parameters such as epithelialization, angiogenesis, number of PMNLs and macrophages, fibroblast and collagen deposition were used in evaluating the wound healing effect. A semi quantitative scoring system was used to grade the parameters. Results showed increasing of the body weight of the rats indicated that rats were not affected by the wound induction. Gross findings revealed that the percentage of wound contraction was higher in treated wound, indicating that the wound healing process was improved by the application of the extract. Histological findings showed that the period of epithelialization was shorter in the treated wound. The fibroblastic activity, collagen deposition and angiogenic activity were also much higher in the treated wound. In conclusion, A. indica extract has good wound healing effect and plausibly can be further commercialised for wound healing treatment.

Dictyophora indusiata or Phallus indusiatus is widely used as not only traditional medicine, functional foods, but also, skin care agents. Biological activities of the fruiting body from D. indusiata were widely reported, while the studies on the application of immature bamboo mushroom extracts were limited especially in the wound healing effect. Wound healing process composed of 4 stages including hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodelling. This study divided the egg stage of bamboo mushroom into 3 parts: peel and green mixture (PGW), core (CW), and whole mushroom (WW). Then, aqueous extracts were investigated for their nucleotide sequencing, biological compound contents, and wound healing effect. The anti-inflammatory determination via the levels of cytokine releasing from macrophages, and the collagen stimulation activity on fibroblasts by matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) inhibitory activity were determined to serve for the wound healing process promotion in the stage 2–4 (wound inflammation, proliferation, and remodelling of the skin). All D. indusiata extracts showed good antioxidant potential, significantly anti-inflammatory activity in the decreasing of the nitric oxide (NO), interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-1 (IL-6), and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) secretion from macrophage cells (p < 0.05), and the effective collagen stimulation via MMP-2 inhibition. In particular, CW extract containing high content of catechin (68.761 ± 0.010 mg/g extract) which could significantly suppress NO secretion (0.06 ± 0.02 µmol/L) better than the standard anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac (0.12 ± 0.02 µmol/L) and their MMP-2 inhibition (41.33 ± 9.44%) was comparable to L-ascorbic acid (50.65 ± 2.53%). These findings support that CW of D. indusiata could be an essential natural active ingredient for skin wound healing pharmaceutical products.

AbstractThe aim of the present study was to explore the wound healing effect of Tcf3 in rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and their effects on wound healing. Epidermal growth factor (EGF) and fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) were used to induce BMSCs differentiation into epithelial-like cells. Western Blotting analysis and RT-qPCR were performed to assess the expression levels of Tcf3 and the markers of epithelial-like cells, such as Cytokeratin-18 (CK-18), CK-19 and P63. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and clone formation assay were carried out to detect cell viability. Immunohistochemistry and HE staining were used to assess the level of Tcf3 protein and skin repair degree, respectively. Rat wound healing model was built to evaluate the effects of BMSCs with altered expression of Tcf3 on wound healing. Results showed that EGF and FGFs stimulation increased the expression of CK-18, CK-19 and P63, improved BMSCs viability, but decreased the expression of Tcf3. Knockdown of Tcf3 in BMSCs increased CK-18, CK-19 and P63 expression and improved cell proliferation, as well as accelerated wound healing process. Moreover, inhibition of Wnt/β-catenin signaling weakened the effect of Tcf3 down-regulation on BMSCs proliferation enhancement. And inhibition of Notch1 signaling impeded the epithelial-like cell differentiation of BMSCs induced by Tcf3 down-regulation. Our study reveals that knockdown of Tcf3 enhances the wound healing process of BMSCs in rat, which provides new approach for accelerating skin regeneration.

Wound healing has been the burning problem in a surgical practice because of a remarkable increase in the number of traumatic cases. A wound causes a number of changes in the body that can affect the healing process, including changes in energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamin and mineral metabolism. Various Ayurveda literatures, particularly, Sushruta Samhita, which is said to be an ancient textbook of surgery in Ayurveda, has mentioned about the diet for the person suffering from the wound, and the author said that diet plays a very important role in the wound healing process. Sushruta - The father of surgery has scientifically classified it in a systemic manner, whose wealth of clinical material and the principles of management are valid even today. Shalya Tantra (surgical branch in Ayurveda Science) is one of the important branch of Ayurveda, in which surgical and para-surgical techniques has described for management of various diseases. Vrana is the most important and widely described chapter of Shalya Tantra. Vrana (wound) is one of them, which have been managed by human being from starting of civilization. Under the circumstances, the first thing which the men came across was the injury from different sources which caused him the Vrana. Vrana is seen as debilitating and scaring disorder, usually seen affecting the human being at any age. Well balanced nutrition plays an essential role in the wound healing.

The aim of the study was to evaluate if a pre-incisional N-acetylcysteine (NAC) treatment altered the process of wound healing in a rat model. The dorsal skin of 24 Sprague-Dawley rats was incised in six locations. Before the incisions were made, skin was injected either with lidocaine and epinephrine (one side) or with these agents supplemented with 0.015%, 0.03%, or 0.045% NAC (contralaterally). Photographic documentation of the wound healing process was made at 11 time points. Rats were sacrificed 3, 7, 14, or 60 days after incision to excise scars for histological analysis. They included: Abramov scale scoring, histomorphometry analysis, and collagen fiber arrangement assessment. Skin pretreated with 0.03% NAC produced the shortest scars at all analyzed time points, though this result was statistically insignificant. At this NAC concentration the scars had smaller areas on the third day and were narrower on the day 4 compared with all the other groups (p < 0.05). On day 7, at the same concentration of NAC, the scars had a higher superficial concentration index (p = 0.03) and larger dermal proliferation area (p = 0.04). NAC addition to pre-incisional anesthetic solution decreased wound size and width at an early stage of scar formation at all concentrations; however, with optimal results at 0.03% concentration.

Jatropha neopauciflora is an endemic species of Mexico. Its latex is used to treat wounds, scarring, oral infections, and loose teeth. To date, there are no studies that validate at a morphological level a wound-healing use in diabetes. The present research aimed to evaluate the wound-healing capacity of the latex of J. neopauciflora in the skin of healthy and streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Also, a chemical analysis of the latex through molecular exclusion chromatography and HPLC were performed. Male mice ( Mus musculus) of 7-week-old CD1 strain were used. Groups of healthy and diabetic mice were formed. A longitudinal cut of 1 cm was performed on the depilated skin. All treatments were topically applied to the wound area twice a day for ten days. At the end of the experiments, the skin sections were obtained from the wound area and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin. Then we counted the number of active fibroblasts in all the experimental groups. In normal mice, the latex accelerated the wound-healing process and decreased the number of active fibroblasts, similarly to Recoveron. In diabetic mice, the latex and Recoveron increased the number of active fibroblasts. In normal and diabetic mice, a thin and orderly epidermis was observed. Molecular exclusion chromatography exhibited 58 fractions, 14 of which were subjected to HPLC, to detect catechin, a flavonoid with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. J. neopauciflora latex can be useful for wound treatment in patients with diabetes mellitus because it accelerates and promotes the wound-healing process.

Pendahuluan: Pencabutan gigi merupakan prosedur yang sering dilakukan di kedokteran gigi. Setelah pencabutan gigi akan dihasilkan suatu perlukaan. Proses penyembuhan luka dapat dipercepat pada kondisi tertentu. Salah satu bahan alami yang dapat membantu proses penyembuhan luka adalah getah tanaman betadine (Jatropha multifida L.). Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas getah tanaman betadine terhadap penyembuhan luka dan terhadap tanda-tanda infeksi pasca pencabutan gigi Metode: Desain penelitian studi eksperimental laboratorium dengan rancangan penelitian post-test only control group design menggunakan 30 ekor tikus Sprague-Dawley. Teknik pengambilan sampel yaitu convenience sampling. Sampel dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok kontrol. Kelompok perlakuan diberikan getah tanaman betadine dan kelompok kontrol diberikan asam traneksamat secara oral menggunakan sonde lambung. Tunggu selama 4 jam setelah pemberian getah tanaman betadine dan asam traneksamat. Anestesi pada tikus menggunakan ketamin 50 mg/kg berat badan secara intramuskular kemudian dilakukan pencabutan pada gigi tikus. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan melihat kriteria klinis pada hari 1,3,7 dan diperhatikan sampai luka sembuh serta lihat tanda-tanda infeksi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji normalitasShapiro Wilik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa data berdistribusi tidak normal. Analisis data dilanjutkan menggunakan uji statistik mann whitney. Hasil: Terdapat perbedaan signifikan penyembuhan luka soket pasca pencabutan gigi setelah diberikan getah betadine dan asam traneksamat dengan nilai p=0,037 (p<0,005). Simpulan: Pemberian getah tanaman betadine terbukti lebih efektif terhadap proses penyembuhan luka soket pasca pencabutan gigi dibandingkan dengan pemberian asam traneksamat. Kata kunci: tikus Sprague-Dawley; penyembuhan luka; pencabutan gigi; getah batang betadine ABSTRACTIntroduction: Tooth extraction is a procedure often performed in dentistry. Tooth extraction will always cause injuries. However, the wound healing process can be accelerated under certain conditions. One of the natural ingredients that can accelerate the wound healing process is betadine (Jatropha multifida L.) plant sap. The study was aimed to analyzed the effect of betadine plant sap on wound healing and signs of infection after tooth extraction. Methods: Experimental laboratory study design with post-test only control group design was conducted towards 30 Sprague-Dawley rats. The sampling technique was convenience sampling. The sample was divided into two groups, the treatment group and the control group. The treatment group was administered with betadine plant sap, and the control group was administered with tranexamic acid orally using a gastric probe, then waited 4 hours after. The anaesthesia was then performed using 50 mg/kg body weight of ketamine intramuscularly. The extraction was performed after. Observations was conducted at the clinical criteria on days 1, 3, and 7 and continue to be monitored until the wound heals. Then, the signs of infection were observed. Data analysis was carried out using the Shapiro Wilk normality test. The results showed that the data was not normally distributed. Thus, data analysis was continued using the Mann Whitney statistical test. Results: The results showed a significant difference in the healing of socket wounds after tooth extraction after being administered with betadine sap and tranexamic acid with a value of p=0.037 (p<0.005). Conclusions: Administration of betadine plant sap is proven to be more effective in accelerating the healing process of socket wounds after tooth extraction than tranexamic acid. Keywords: Sprague-Dawley rats; wound healing; pencabutan gigi; getah batang betadine

Wounds are nothing but any damage to the tissue or skin that can be healed. The wound healing process is usually built in the human body to self heal many wounds. When there is an injury in the body, there is an inflammatory response that is generated in the body, and the cells begin to raise the collagen levels in the skin which enables to increase the healing process. Ficus species of plants are famous for their potency to treat diseases in various Indian systems of medicine and the tree is commonly called as a banyan. Especially the plant in the species benghalensis is used to treat rheumatism, wounds and other skin related problems like an ulcer. The herbal gels were prepared using the incorporation of the aqueous extracts of the plant Ficus benghalensis into carbopol gel. They were investigated for the wound healing potential compared to the betadine drug standard. The gels at a concentration 200mg/g of the gel showed better activity compared to the gel at 100mg/g and the standard drug, betadine.

Wound healing entails a sequence of complex biological processes, which is a protective function of the body that focuses on a quick recovery. Reducing wound healing time is crucial in a wound as it lowers the chance of infection and decreases complications and costs. Papaya extract was obtained by a maceration method. It contains papain enzyme, flavonoid, saponin, and alkaloid, which act as an anti-inflammatory, astringent substance, vasodilator, antioxidant, analgesic, with antifungal, and antibacterial properties, and increase the collagen synthesis. This study aimed to assess the effect of Carica papaya extract application toward incised wound healing process in mice (Mus musculus) clinically and histologically. This experimental laboratory study was performed using 24 mice weighing between 30 and 40 grams and 12 and 14 weeks of age as experimental animals. Each group was incised along 5 mm at the labial gingiva under both of mandible anterior teeth with a depth reaching alveolar bone. Papaya extract was applied topically in the morning and evening for 14 days. The clinical result was obtained by assessing the length of wound closure measured every day for 14 days. Based on the statistic test result, it showed that the papaya extract has a significant effect (p≤0.05) toward the healing process of an incised oral wound in mice. Histologically at day 14, 75% concentration papaya extract showed perfect epithelial layer and fibrillation.

Chronic wounds occur when one wound healing process or a sequence of wound healing events are affected resulting in slow healing of the wound thereby placing the patient in deep pain. Various diseases and conditions can delay the process of wound healing. Wound healing can be classified into four main stages: hemostasis, inflammation, remodeling, and scar tissue formation with each phase overlapping one another. The skin is the largest organ in the body. It protects the entire external surface of the human body and is the primary site of interaction with the outside environment. There is therefore a need to fabricate an ideal dressing through scientific research and investigations. Hydrogels are a three-dimensional network of hydrophilic polymers that can swell in water and absorb copious amounts of water while maintaining their structure because of their chemical or physical crosslinking of individual polymer chains. A hydrogel must be composed of at least 10% water. Hydrogels possess the flexibility and water percentage which is remarkably like tissues. They are biocompatible and biodegradable which makes them ideal for dermal wound healing.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is characterized by an increase in glucose levels in the blood due to disorders of glucose metabolism in the body. The pancreas organ of people with DM has a weakness in producing the hormone insulin. As a result, the distribution of blood glucose to other organs of the body is inhibited so that glucose levels in the blood increase which causes DM sufferers to experience longer wound healing than normal humans. Binahong leaves contain alkaloids, saponins and flavonoids which have antibacterial activity which can accelerate the wound healing process. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of binahong leaf extract ointment (Anredera cordifolia) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria from diabetic wounds. This research includes antibacterial test for binahong leaf extract ointment (Anredera cordifolia) with variations in the concentration of 10%, 20%, and 30% of the concentration of binahong leaf extract of 25% which resulted in a wound coverage percentage of up to 100%, namely at 30% ointment concentration. The conclusion of this study is that there was no wound closure for negative control and positive control in the form of oxytetracycline, the percentage of wound closure was 85%.
