Acquiring statistical education is a prerequisite for the professional and scientific work of every pedagogue. Institutional support for the statistical education of students is a fundamental starting point in the development of research competencies necessary for a future pedagogue. The subject of this study was focused on examining the effectiveness of the application of a program for statistical data processing in teaching. The research aimed to examine whether students gained adequate knowledge in the field of Statistics in Pedagogical Research by applying the experimental factor SPSS in teaching. This means that the use of the SPSS program may significantly facilitate the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge pertaining to the field of statistics in pedagogical researches. The objective was to analyze whether using the SPSS software as part of university education would yield better knowledge of statistics than teaching without it. This objective was accomplished by analyzing the differences in the respondents’ scores on the knowledge test using the pre-test and the post-test groups of students. Three generations of pedagogy students at the Faculty of Philosophy, the University of Nis in Serbia, participated in the experimental research. The results showed statistically significant differences in the participants’ achievement in the initial and final tests.

The aim of this paper is to show why the humanities are more necessary than ever as part of the university education in our contemporary cosmopolitan age. We need the humanities if our educational institutions are to overcome the threats from narrow-minded politicians and business people to reduce education in schools and universities to simple instruction in management without guidance from the cultures of the world as expressed in art and literature, knowledge of languages, history and philosophy.  Therefore, I use the theoretical work of Paul Ricœur in just and ethical institutions of education, as a starting point of these arguments.

In 1913, an article by Anna Wyczółkowska entitled Theoretical and experimental studies in the mechanism of speech was published in the Psychological Review. It contains the results of her studies on internal speech and thought, which had been carried out by the author seven years earlier, in the psychological laboratory of the University of Chicago. John B. Watson was a participant in the study. Wyczółkowska believed that Watson was inspired by her research. Thanks to his participation, he gradually began to move away from his original interest in animal psychology, towards behaviourism. In his Behaviorist Manifesto published in the same year, Watson took, as one of the arguments for the rightness of his programme, the assumption that the thought process is really motor habits in the larynx, improvements, short cuts, changes, etc. According to Wyczółkowska, it was obviously inspired by her research. Her aforementioned article is still cited in the psychological literature today, and belongs to the canon of the most important early experimental studies in the field of research on thinking and speech processes. This text discusses the relationship between the research conducted by Wyczółkowska and some assumptions of behaviourism. Furthermore it presents the story of Wyczółkowska’s life, her scientific work, social commitment to women’s university education, and activities in the Polish American community.

ABSTRACT In the current context of university education, the factors associated with the abandonment, permanence and academic success of students have great relevance for quality systems. That is why the entrance, the relationship established with the institution and the involvement in the training dynamics are fundamental for a good adaptation and academic success. In the analysis of the problem it has been detected that the preparation of the transition, the expectations towards university education, the previous performance and the baggage of competences with which the student arrives are important factors, which influence the possibilities of integration and permanence Until graduation. In relation to this problem, an investigation of a descriptive-exploratory nature of mixed nature has been carried out with a representative sample of teachers, with the objective of assessing the profile of university students, the difficulties of adaptation and the competences require to integrate and succeed in studies. The results reflected that the students arrived without the necessary skills to integrate academically in the degree studies and without adequate knowledge about the characteristics of the formative model that is followed in higher education. These results should serve so that, from the previous stages, students work with training and guidance activities for exploration, clarification of expectations, socialization, planning and decision-making, in order to efficiently address the transition and adaptation to higher education.

This paper seeks to expound on the role of university education in promoting value orientation for socio-economic development in Nigeria. A quick examination of the terms of university education, value re-orientation and socio-economic development will be made in order to link how they lead to each other. With a comprehensive literature review, these terms will be viewed side by side with the opinions of various scholars to offer expert opinions on their background. University education is far more than just giving theoretical skills to students that will only be applied to their jobs in the future. Rather, the university environment can be used as a reservoir of value systems that can be passed to students so they can have improved mindsets and lifestyles that work beyond a job. The objectives of this paper are to create an understanding of the ways that are possible to achieve national socio-economic development through the university system which should make a change in its previous methods by now emphasising the necessity of value re-orientation to impact the lives of students. Through this expected impact, youths will improve mentally, emotionally and build an industrious work ethic for more than just study-related matters. They will be able to contribute immensely to changes in the nation and step by step, the country can experience a turnaround in its socio-economic development. The importance of this effort will be highlighted and issues that hinder the discovery of this paper’s goal will be deduced and allotted appropriate solutions applicable in real-life situations. Suitable suggestions will be made to give a reader practical knowledge on how to sustain the solutions provided in this paper

Coopersmith Self-esteem and Beck Hopelessness Scales were completed at the beginning and end of the summer camp by designed the university. The obtained data were analysed in the SPSS 18.0 program and the significance level was taken as 0.05. The descriptive statistics, independent simple t test, paired simple t test and Pearson correlation were used for analyse the data in the study. According to the results of the research, no significant difference was observed in the comparison of the hopelessness and self-esteem levels between pre and post-test. In addition, there was a significant difference in the hopelessness level of male and female students but any significant difference was not observed in terms of self-esteem.
