Introduction: Many factors impact the performance of graduating residents on certification exams. It is thought that most factors are related to the individual candidate’s ability, motivation, and work ethic. Less understood, however, is whether a training program has any impact on the preparation and performance of its graduates on certification exams. We present 20 years of results of a national preparatory exam that all graduating residents complete about three months before the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) qualifying urology exam. This exam, known colloquially as QUEST, aims to simulate the RCPSC exam with written and oral components. We aimed to analyze the impact of a training program on the performance of its residents. Methods: A retrospective review of exam results from 1997–2016 was conducted. During that time, 495 candidates from all 12 Canadian urology training programs undertook the exam. The performance of graduating residents from each individual program was grouped together for any given year. The different programs were anonymized, as the aim of this study is to assess the impact of a training program and not to rate the different programs. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA was conducted. Results: All training programs fall within one standard deviation of the mean for the written component, the oral component, and the overall score. The residents of four training programs had statistically better scores than the overall mean of the written component. The residents of three out of these four training programs also had statistically better scores than the overall mean of the oral component and the overall results of the exam. Conclusions: Most Canadian training programs prepare their residents adequately for this simulated certification exam in urology. However, there are some training programs that consistently prepare graduating residents to outperform their peers.

<p>Sport psychology is well recognised and accepted as an important aspect of sports training, especially for elite athletes. Sport psychology focuses on teaching skills and methods such as goal setting and mental preparation for athletes so that they can develop their psychological abilities to the same high level as their physical abilities. Few researchers have linked sports and singing training, but it appears that many of the techniques used in sport psychology could be of value in developing singers’ practice and performance skills.  This study examined the overall impact of introducing sport psychology based training into the curriculum of a cohort of tertiary level contemporary singing students, using a qualitative case study approach. Five categories from sport psychology methods were identified for the purpose of this research: deliberate practice, self-efficacy, motivation, goal setting and peak performance were introduced into the teaching of the singing programme. Analysis of the impact revealed that sport psychology methods were not easily transferable into this vocal curriculum. The outcomes showed that the participants’ level of development in terms of learning skills was at a lower level than the demands of sport psychology</p>

The objective of this study is to assess the impact of deceleration training method on improving dynamic balance skills of young soccer players in comparison with the conventional training methods. This study included 26 young soccer players (mean age: 13.54±1.48, height: 154.98±12.44, weight: 46.16±11.06, Body Mass Index 18.96±2.21 kg/m2, fat percentile 18.22%±3.22). Thirteen players participated in the deceleration training group (DTG) group and thirteen players participated in the conventional training group (CTG). The training programs were executed on three nonconsecutive days in a week for a total of eight weeks. Y-balance tests were conducted both before and after the eight week training programs. The differences between the averages were analyzed with Wilcoxon, comparison between the groups were analyzed with Mann-Whitney-U post hoc analyses. There was no difference in left-right balance variation (p > 0.05) performance measurements between DTG and CTG before the exercise program. However, after the 8 week training programs, the performance measurements between DTG and CTG were significantly different (p < 0.05) and the dynamic balance skill development of the DTG were more advanced. Based on these results, the deceleration training method seems to be a more effective method in developing dynamic balance skills than conventional training methods.

Introduction: Contemporary trends of training children and adolescents in football follow in the direction of teaching creative thinking in games (game intelligence). Purpose: The aim of the study was to check the impact of the proposed by the authors creative model of teaching young football players on the level of professional knowledge and performance in the game. Materials and methods: The object of the study was twenty – four seater team "Młodzik/Junior D" from the Football Club “Słomniczanka" Słomniki of players from the age of twelve to thirteen .The study was conducted from September 2015 to June 2016. The research used the method of pedagogical experiment and natural experiment. The technique of parallel groups (the experimental and control ones) was applied in the study. In the evaluation of players the test of special knowledge and assessment of players performance in the game was used. Results: The results showed that the method of creative education of young players develops effectively both special knowledge and efficiency of the players in games. Summary: Using modern methods of training young players based on the teaching games comprehensibly contributes towards the increase of their effectiveness and creativity in the game.

This qualitative research presents data relating to eight amateur pianists who completed a 10-week Piano Performance course for lifelong learners at the University of York, UK. This article discusses the development of learning through the impact of group participation, challenges faced by learners and pedagogical strategies used by the leader to create a positive and productive learning environment. The findings suggest that learning in a non-assessed semi-formal group not only informs individual practice, technique, musicianship, analytical and performance skills but also has a positive impact on other areas of the participants’ lives.

This study explores how my musical background, teaching and performance skills, understandings, and knowledge acquired from both formal and informal influence has shaped myself as musician, teacher and researcher. The study reveals various learning cultures and social networks that frame my multiple professional identities that have themselves developed from my understandings of being a performer, an educator and researcher. This study explores three aspects to my being: personal identity, professional identity and my perception of the impact this has on my students through my teaching and performing. An autoethnographical method is used to investigate my background that is initially formed by the different modes of music education I received. The study reveals significant influences and formative experiences that impact knowledge and skill accumulation, shaping what informs my own practice as a musician, teacher and researcher. It reveals ongoing exploration, reflection and personal negotiations in maintaining ones’ development of performance and personal creative processes, whilst functioning as a facilitator and educator to others. This study offers insights into how cultural backgrounds, social contexts, teachers and peers influence others.

Abstract: This article examines the process and impact of an artist-in-residence program in Art Education at the University of Victoria. After an open call to artists, contemporary Upper Tanana visual artist, Teresa Vander Meer-Chassé, member of the White River First Nation of Beaver Creek, Yukon and Alaska was selected as the inaugural artist-in-residence. Through research-creation and qualitative methods this research examines the artist’s artistic process and the impact of an artist-in-residence on students’ and faculty’s perception of artistic practice and their experience working with an artist-in-residence within a post-secondary space of learning. Through photographic documentation, reflections and interviews by participants, the article examines ways the artist-in-residence enriched student and faculty learning in a Faculty of Education. Résumé : Cet article s’intéresse au processus et à l’impact d’un programme d’artiste en résidence dans le domaine de l’enseignement des arts à l’Université de Victoria. Suite à une audition ouverte d’artistes, l’artiste visuelle contemporaine du Haut Tanana Teresa Vander Meer-Chassé, membre de la Première Nation de White River de Beaver Creek, du Yukon et de l’Alaska, a été choisie artiste-résidente inaugurale. La présente recherche utilise des méthodes quantitatives et de recherche-création pour étudier la démarche artistique de l’artiste et l’impact d’une artiste-résidente sur la perception de la pratique artistique chez les étudiants et le corps enseignant. On y analyse aussi l’impact de collaborer avec une artiste-résidente en milieu d’apprentissage postsecondaire. Documentation photographique, réflexions et entrevues des participant.e.s sont mises à profit pour déterminer de quelles façons l’artiste- résidente a enrichi l’apprentissage étudiant et du corps enseignant au sein de la Faculté d’éducation.
