Our paper focuses on the development of green brands as the part of the sustainable environmental management. It demonstrates that the main goal of the green technology is to focus on the specific interface of environmentally-friendly and sustainable technology, innovation and business development. It is building solutions that promote the development of clean energy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and efficient technologies. Moreover, it makes it clear that one should also underline the importance of sustainable transport, sustainable agriculture and sustainable urban development within this context. In addition, the paper focuses on the green marketing and environmental management as the parts of the sustainable entrepreneurship of the 21st century. It becomes clear that environmental benefits of products and services should be highlighted and advertised by business companies in order to sustain their position on the globalized markets with severe competition.

This study draws on the natural resource-based view and the dynamic capabilities theory to analyse the effects of green technology, proactive environmental management and business strategy on environmental performance. This paper offers a novel analysis of the direct effect of the integrated use of green technology on environmental performance, considering a non-linear relationship between them, and how this impact can be leveraged through a formal proactive environmental planning, coordination and control system, and a defined business strategy. In order to test the research hypotheses, multiple linear regression was used on a sample of 446 Spanish tourism firms. The results confirm a non-linear relationship between green technology and environmental performance. They also indicate the importance of defining a clear, proactive environmental management and prospector strategy to achieve more efficient products/services, processes and technologies, with minimal environmental impact. This research also provides some insights into the moderating effect exerted by proactive environmental management in terms of strengthening the relationship between green technology and environmental performance. In addition, the analysis confirms that whereas defender strategies reduce the impact of green technology on environmental performance, analyser and prospector strategies enhance its influence. These results can be used to offer a series of guidelines for both private and public agents in the tourism sector.

Resource restrictions and carbon restrictions are posing a challenge to corporate sustainable development. Therefore, enterprises will be able to become more competitive by enhancing their research and development of green technology as well as environmental performance. Taiwan is a high-tech island featuring the highly-intensive manufacturing, and Taiwan’s manufacturing industry is actively developing the green management. This study proposed the environmental performance indicators integrating five aspects: green product design, green product recycling, green manufacturing management, environmental protection and environmental management. A total of 239 valid questionnaires, collected from various manufacturing industries, were the research subjects to investigate their environmental performance. The study found respondents performed the best in environmental protection while the worst in green product recycling, and especially got the lowest score in the “Using biodegradable materials” indicator. The environmental performances of research subjects were positively correlated to their enterprise scales. However, the environmental performances of various industry categories showed no significant differences between with each other. The overall environmental performances of the enterprises that implemented ISO 14001 and 14064 certifications were significantly higher than those without certifications. These results indicate that the environmental management system could improve the environmental performance in manufacturing industry.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a ubiquitous class of environmental pollutants with toxic and hepatocellular effects, including accumulation of fat, proliferated smooth endoplasmic recticulum (SER), and concentric membrane arrays (CMAs) (1-3). The CMAs appear to be a membrane storage and degeneration organelle composed of a large number of concentric membrane layers usually surrounding one or more lipid droplets often with internalized membrane fragments (3). The present study documents liver alteration after a short term single dose exposure to PCBs with high chlorine content, and correlates them with reported animal weights and central nervous system (CNS) measures. In the brain PCB congeners were concentrated in particular regions (4) while catecholamine concentrations were decreased (4-6). Urinary levels of homovanillic acid a dopamine metabolite were evaluated (7).Wistar rats were gavaged with corn oil (6 controls), or with a 1:1 mixture of Aroclor 1254 and 1260 in corn oil at 500 or 1000 mg total PCB/kg (6 at each level).

Developments of disease hypotheses and conceptions of disease as philosophic entities have shown bursts of great advance. One just concluded includes emergence of bacteriology and virology culminating in Koch’s Postulates, which in the twentieth century were primary bases for disease study and colored all approaches to medicine. With recent extraordinary advances in technology, medicine faces great new obligations demanding fresh approaches and untrammeled thinking for solution of problems posed. It is clear that any approach to diseases and disabilities induced by exposures to environmental pollutants must take multiple etiology into account. For example, contributing to causation of lung malignancies one must list usual dusts, radioactivity, smog, auto exhausts, cigarette smoke and genetic composition. Consideration of plural factors in genesis of environmentally associated disease leads to the hypothesis of the incremental insult, a complex and difficult conception in which must be included provision for multiple causative agents, each contributing but a fraction toward total etiology^ Computers developed to their present refinement provide necessary tools for whatever complexity required to spawn and fructify hypotheses of inter-relating associations of incremental insults leading to pathology.
