Batch experiments have been studied to remove methylene blue dye (MB) from aqueous solution using modified bentonite. The modified bentonite was synthesized by replacing exchangeable calcium cations in natural bentonite with cationic surfactant cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The characteristics of modified bentonite were studied using different analysis such as Scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and surface area. Where SEM shows the natural bentonite has a porous structure, a rough and uneven appearance with scattered and different block structure sizes, while the modified bentonite surface morphology was smooth and supplemented by a limited number of holes. On other hand, (FTIR) analysis that proved NH group aliphatic and aromatic group of MB and silanol group are responsible for the sorption of contaminate. The organic matter peaks at 2848 and 2930 cm-1 in the spectra of modified bentonite which are sharper than those of the natural bentonite were assigned to the CH2 scissor vibration band and the symmetrical CH3 stretching absorption band, respectively, also the 2930 cm-1 peak is assigned to CH stretching band. The batch study was provided the maximum removal efficiency (99.99 % MB) with a sorption capacity of 129.87 mg/g at specified conditions (100 mg/L, 25℃, pH 11 and 250rpm). The sorption isotherm data fitted well with the Freundlich isotherm model. The kinetic studies were revealed that the sorption follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model which indicates chemisorption between sorbent and sorbate molecules.

ABSTRACT A procedure for the quantitative determination of 5β-pregnan-3α-ol-20-one in urine is described. After acid hydrolysis of the pregnanolone-conjugates in urine, the free steroids are extracted with toluene. Pregnanolone is isolated in a pure form as its acetate; after chromatographic separation of the free steroids on alumina, the fraction containing pregnanolone is acetylated and rechromatographed on alumina. Quantitative determination of the isolated pregnanolone-acetate is carried out with the aid of the infrared spectrum recorded by a micro KBr-wafermethod. The reliability of the method under various conditions is discussed under the headings, specificity, accuracy, precision and sensitivity. It is possible to determine 30–40 μg pregnanolone in a 24-hours urine portion with a precision of 25%.

<p><strong>Introduction:</strong> Clear guidelines for red cell transfusion during cardiac surgery have not yet been established. The current focus on blood conservation during cardiac surgery has increased the urgency to determine the minimum safe hematocrit for these patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether monitoring of cerebral regional oxygen saturation (rSO2) via near-infrared spectrometry (NIRS) is effective for assessing the cerebral effects of severe dilutional anemia during elective coronary arterial bypass graft surgery (CABG).</p><p><strong>Methods:</strong> The prospective observational study involved patients who underwent cerebral rSO2 monitoring by NIRS during elective isolated first-time CABG: an anemic group (<em>N</em>=15) (minimum Hemoglobin (Hb) N=15) (Hb &gt;8 g/dL during CPB). Mean arterial pressure (MAP), pump blood flow, blood lactate level, pCO2, pO2 at five time points and cross-clamp time, extracorporeal circulation time were recorded for each patient. Group results statistically were compared.</p><p><strong>Results:</strong> The anemic group had significantly lower mean preoperative Hb than the control group (10.3 mg/dL versus 14.2 mg/dL; <em>P</em> = .001). The lowest Hb levels were observed in the hypothermic period of CPB in the anemic group. None of the controls exhibited a &gt;20% decrease in cerebral rSO2. Eleven (73.3%) of the anemic patients required an increase in pump blood flow to raise their cerebral rSO2.</p><p><strong>Conclusions:</strong> In this study, the changes in cerebral rSO2 in the patients with low Hb were within acceptable limits, and this was in concordance with the blood lactate levels and blood-gas analysis. It can be suggested that NIRS monitoring of cerebral rSO2 can assist in decision making related to blood transfusion and dilutional anemia during CPB.</p>

AbstractA significant area of research is biomedical applications of nanoparticles which involves efforts to control the physicochemical properties through simple and scalable processes. Gold nanoparticles have received considerable attention due to their unique properties that they exhibit based on their morphology. Gold nanospheres (AuNSs) and nanorods (AuNRs) were prepared with a seed-mediated method followed of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-coating. The seeds were prepared with 0.1 M cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB), 0.005 M chloroauric acid (HAuCl4), and 0.01 M sodium borohydride (NaBH4) solution. Gold nanoparticles with spherical morphology was achieved by growth by aggregation at room temperature, while to achieve the rod morphology 0.1 M silver nitrate (AgNO3) and 0.1 M ascorbic acid solution were added. The gold nanoparticles obtained by the seed-mediated synthesis have spherical or rod shapes, depending on the experimental conditions, and a uniform particle size. Surface functionalization was developed using polyethylene glycol. Morphology, and size distribution of AuNPs were evaluated by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy. The average size of AuNSs, and AuNRs was 7.85nm and 7.96 x 31.47nm respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectrometry was performed to corroborate the presence of PEG in the AuNPs surface. Additionally, suspensions of AuNSs and AuNRs were evaluated by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Gold nanoparticles were stored for several days at room temperature and it was observed that the colloidal stability increased once gold nanoparticles were coated with PEG due to the shield formed in the surface of the NPs and the increase in size which were 9.65±1.90 nm of diameter for AuNSs and for AuNRs were 29.03±5.88 and 8.39±1.02 nm for length and transverse axis, respectively.

In this research aniline polymerization conditions were optimized in presence of pre-treated polyester textile to achieve as high electrical conductivity as 100 S/Cm. Alkaline activation of the polyester textile was followed by immersion in to aqueous acidic solution of aniline monomer. Then the oxidant solution was used to initiate the polymerization. Finally, the prepared product was washed and dried prior to ant test. Functional groups were studied by Fourie-transformed infrared spectrometry (FTIR) from the surface of the polyaniline coated textile. Also, morphological structure of synthesized conductive polyaniline was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The synthesized cloth was used in a closed circuit in order to light up alight emitting diode to emphasis the conductivity of the textile and fibres that synthesised by this method.
