Passenger comfort is becoming an important issue with the recent increase in air travel. A common cause of passenger discomfort and distress is the invasion of the passenger’s personal space. This paper presents the results of two studies addressing the environmental psychological characteristics of passengers during personal space invasion (PSI) and how PSI affects cabin comfort design. In study 1, our survey shows that PSI has different effects on the comfort of passengers with different genders, ages, education levels, and interpersonal relationships. From these survey data, we extracted 14 factors of PSI. In study 2, a Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) model was established, with passenger comfort as the target layer, to determine the interrelation between 14 PSI factors. The causal relationships between the 14 factors were visualized by a causal diagram. We established a priority ranking of the 14 aircraft interior design indexes based on the corresponding relationships between the indexes and PSI factors. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of how PSI impacts passenger comfort and offer strategies to improve the comfort design of aircraft cabins.

Professional activity, which includes an extreme component at the content level, is a special type of activity with the presentation of increased physical, psychological and psychophysiological requirements for a person, the consideration of which contributes to the successful performance of service and work tasks and the prevention of psychosomatic, psychovegetative and pathological organizational changes of the subject. The purpose of the study is to identify the psychological characteristics of the subjects of extreme activity, depending on the length of service and work experience. To achieve the goal of the study, we studied 508 male respondents whose professional activity contained an extreme component (military air traffic controllers, ground-based and deck-based transport and fighter pilots, surface sailors, submariners, firefighters, specialists engaged in the disposal of spent nuclear fuel, participants in combat operations). As a result of the study, it was found that with an increase in the length of service and work experience, interpersonal relationships are transformed in specialists of extreme profile, personality qualities and characterological features change. Professional resiliency does not change in the course of official and labor activity

“The task of critical regionalism is to rethink architecture through the concept of region.” (Tzonis & Lefaivre, 2003) The term critical regionalism, in its sense, raises several arguments in the architectural field. Critical regionalism could debate the essence of the utopian idea of international design, that every building can be placed anywhere and function with high compatibility. Critical regionalism questions the approaches used in international design; it opens up the idea that each region could have a specific characteristic that could serve function, form, and efficiency. This could also mean that each region will be distinct in the means of materials and treatments. “Critical regionalism self- consciously seeks to deconstruct universal modernism in terms of values and images which are locally cultivated, while at the same time adulterating these autochthonous elements with paradigms drawn from alien sources.” (Frarmpton, 1983) Critical Regionalism does not intend to revisit history or dwell in the past, but to find a middle ground between two extremes. The universal design that the modernists strive to achieve by spearing Louis Sullivan’s saying “Form follows function” wherever the building might exist, and the post modernists who celebrated ornamentation for its own sake. Globalization is definitely a benefit for designers as it expands the visual cultures; yet designers need to use this design exposure in a way that could benefit the environment and maximize the built environment's efficiency. This paper questions the possibility to use critical regionalism in promoting a region’s identity but at the same time adheres to the international developments. The aim is to explore the idea of critical regionalism applications, and whether it could relate to both international design and regional identity. Its being applied to four different interior design Master’s degree student projects in Florence, Italy. The students were given a specific building in the center of Florence to redesign but there were several fixed factors. First, the building should be a hotel that relates to the identity of the city of Florence, second, the design should be minimal, third the use of literal images or direct analogies were not allowed. The data is analyzed through a comparative study between the four projects in terms of concept, analogy, color scheme, materials and level of ornamentation. The paper represents results of this focus group of interior design students who are from different demographics with only fixed education levels’ postgraduates in either interior design or architecture, and project description.

The existing dormitories seem to be excessively communized: they do not have any isolated emotional and psychological spaces that people need physically and psychologically for personal rest and reflection. Such an organization of residential premises of colleges does not meet many vital needs of students, as well as significantly reduces the learning effectiveness, which causes the relevance of this study. The article considers and summarizes the conclusions of modern psychologists concerning the interac-tion of students living in student dormitories. We analyzed the need for both communication and development, and solitude to rest from the social and psychological stress and for reflection. The problems of forming zones for various functional processes in an accommodation unit of student dormitories have been consid-ered due to the need to create a comfortable environment, optimally ensuring efficient basic scientific and educational activities of students, taking into account the psychological characteristics of youth development and issues of setting personal space and comfort zones by architectural means. Based on the analysis of the above features, we proposed schemes of functional zoning, recommended for use in student accommodation units. The objects of the study are buildings and their complexes designed for college students’ accommoda-tion. The subject is the formation of comfortable architectural solutions of student dwelling, corresponding to the specifics of students' psychological development and academic work. The purpose of the study is to develop proposals for the formation of the architecture of objects designed to accommodate students, taking into account their psychological features.

Proxemics refers to the perception, use, and structuring of space as communication. The study of proxemics is multidisciplinary, with scholars in fields such as anthropology, architecture, communication, linguistics, psychology, and sociology, among other fields, all making important contributions. The multidisciplinary nature of research on proxemics is appropriate given that space is a ubiquitous part of most human interaction. Space is not only physical, as reflected in the amount of space between people or in the layout of a room and the arrangement of furniture; it is also psychological, with people from different social and cultural groups perceiving and using space differently. The literature reflects the ubiquitous nature of proxemics by focusing on how space functions in different contexts. Early work on proxemics often focused on how culture or the environment shape proxemic communication. From the literature in these areas emerged concepts such as personal space, interpersonal distancing, territory, and crowding. Scholars have also examined how proxemics functions in interpersonal relationships, small groups, and computer-mediated communication, and how it is used to send messages related to persuasion and social support.

This article reveals the problem of communicative addiction in terms of its membership of a particular category of the population and gender - namely, housewives. The urgency of the research for this problem has been proven; the analysis of recent studies has been carried out, which includes the beginning of the problem solution. Summarizing the opinions of modern scholars about this phenomenon, the article clarifies the concept of communicative addiction as a form of interpersonal addiction of women- housewives. The article presents the study’s results of individual psychological characteristics of women, affecting the expression of communicative addiction on interpersonal relationships. Based on the empirical study the level of individual psychological characteristics of housewives has been analyzed (self-esteem, sociability, emotional stability, subordination, conformity), taking into account the general indicators of the communicative relationship. Comparative analysis of the communicative-addicted and not addictive housewives showed significant differences in such factors as «self-esteem», «communication», «subordination», and «conformity».Using correlation analysis a connection between the level of housewives` communicative addiction and their individual psychological characteristics, such as self-esteem, sociability, subordination, and the conformism has been revealed.

In sports activities, during the process of regulating the behavior of adolescents and teenagers, interpersonal and intergroup relationships are important as they contribute to transformation of deviant behavior. It is well known that people cannot evolve and exist outside of human society, communications and culture. This is where worldview and path of development lies. The psychological characteristics of teenagers with deviant behavior differ greatly. They require special individual approach, clear knowledge, skills, abilities and interpersonal relationships. The problem of deviant behavior among teenagers remains one of the most difficult socioeconomic and socio-psychological problems that our society has faced. Although at present the state bodies as well as many international and national non-governmental organizations, including sports federations are interested in overcoming this problem, the problem of deviant behavior among teenagers is still actual.

We present the results of a theoretical analysis of the psychological bases of success of athletes. We provide an overview of studies of the factors influencing the success of the activities in the sport. Sports activities are considered as a joint activity of athlete and coach, the success of which is affected by the personal qualities and characteristics of the relationship of its members. We summarize the main approaches to the study of personality and social psychological aspects of successful athletes and coaches. As the main factors in the success of sports activities, we considered individual psychological characteristics of athletes (motives, attitudes, modes of behavior and response), and socio-psychological characteristics of the interaction of coach and athlete (leadership style, the nature of interpersonal relationships and role expectations). We emphasize the importance of mutual role expectations of athlete and coach to achieve high results of sports activity.
