Seismic demand and performance of bridges are highly dependent upon the level of irregularity. Although previous studies have proposed methodologies so as to quantify the irregularity of the bridges in terms of global regularity index, it still remains unclear how to determine the distribution of irregularity along a bridge, as well as to discover the irregularity sources. This research project is intended to develop a quantitative vector regularity criterion for single- and multiframe bridges based on the modified correlation function for spatial locations of scaled mode shapes of deck-alone and whole bridge. The proposed criterion calculates two types of regularity indices, namely, local (LRI) and global regularity indices (GRI). The GRI is a scalar value representing the overall regularity of the entire bridge, whereas the LRI highlights vector irregularity distribution along the bridge. Since the deck discontinuity due to the in-span hinges is one of the leading causes for irregularity, the proposed index has been employed in case of multiframe bridges as well. Furthermore, the current study aims to investigate the correlation between the proposed irregularity indicators and the nonlinear to linear demand ratio. Therefore, the appropriate analysis method can be chosen based on irregularity extent of bridges. Obtained results of the proposed indices reveal that in-span hinge is one of the main parameters affecting the distribution of local irregularity along a bridge. Therefore, multiframe bridges need to be investigated in detail so as to validate the special design requirements recommended by design codes.

Due to their lightweight properties, fiber-reinforced composites are well suited for large and fast rotating structures, such as fan blades in turbomachines. To investigate rotor safety and performance, in situ measurements of the structural dynamic behaviour must be performed during rotating conditions. An approach to measuring spatially resolved vibration responses of a rotating structure with a non-contact, non-rotating sensor is investigated here. The resulting spectra can be assigned to specific locations on the structure and have similar properties to the spectra measured with co-rotating sensors, such as strain gauges. The sampling frequency is increased by performing consecutive measurements with a constant excitation function and varying time delays. The method allows for a paradigm shift to unambiguous identification of natural frequencies and mode shapes with arbitrary rotor shapes and excitation functions without the need for co-rotating sensors. Deflection measurements on a glass fiber-reinforced polymer disk were performed with a diffraction grating-based sensor system at 40 measurement points with an uncertainty below 15 μrad and a commercial triangulation sensor at 200 measurement points at surface speeds up to 300 m/s. A rotation-induced increase of two natural frequencies was measured, and their mode shapes were derived at the corresponding rotational speeds. A strain gauge was used for validation.

Temporary or permanent supports are necessary in underground construction for maintaining the stability and limiting the damage of surrounding rock. Due to the uncertainty of geological structure, the specificity of the underground environment as well as other factors, the quality and performance of supporting structure are often difficult to satisfy the design requirements, which not only seriously affects the normal construction and operation of mines but also has the potential threat to the safety of underground production. In order to investigate the influence of the unfavorable geologic environment on supporting concrete and evaluate the real performance of roadway supports of a mine, 17 typical projects were chosen and the strength of supporting concrete was detected by nondestructive drilling core method. The result shows that the strength is widely less than the design value. Furthermore, 4 projects of them were investigated by the ground penetrating radar (GPR) in order to evaluate the feasibility of GPR in the performance investigation of the roadway supports of a mine. The results indicate that ground penetrating radar is capable of measuring the thickness of the support, the distribution of rebars and the defects of the surrounding rock.

Abstract Big data analytics (BDA) in e-commerce, which is an emerging field that started in 2006, deeply affects the development of global e-commerce, especially its layout and performance in the U.S. and China. This paper seeks to examine the relative influence of theoretical research of BDA in e-commerce to explain the differences between the U.S. and China by adopting a statistical analysis method on the basis of samples collected from two main literature databases, Web of Science and CNKI, aimed at the U.S. and China. The results of this study help clarify doubts regarding the development of China’s e-commerce, which exceeds that of the U.S. today, in view of the theoretical comparison of BDA in e-commerce between them.

Service quality is important because it makes prices more affordable, and also fulfils customer satisfaction. This bolsters trust for customers, and thereby encourages them to keep buying products at retail stores. This research uses Quality Service Analysis method to understand the gap between customers’ expectations regarding service attributes and their perceived satisfaction level. This study also uses the method of Importance and Performance Analysis to determine an attribute’s category. Therefore, it can determine which priorities should be reinforced to improve customer satisfaction. Through SERVQUAL analysis, there are 10 known attributes of each retailer that has the highest gap score. Through IPA analysis, we know that Alfamart has 7 attributes which warrant serious attention from management. This is due to the high expectations of customers on the indicator, and the fact that the management has not managed well. Meanwhile, Indomaret has 9 attributes that warrant serious attention from management.

Trellis decoding is used to recover encoded information that was corrupted during transmission over a noisy channel. The Viterbi algorithm is the most well known trellis-based maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. The Viterbi algorithm is executed by a Viterbi decoder. Different hardware solutions may be considered to implement a Viterbi decoder with different design requirements in terms of area, performance, power consumption, among others. The most appropriate solution depends on the metric requirements of the application as well as on the target technology. Properties of the Viterbi algorithm are used to simplify and improve the architecture of the Viterbi decoder. In particular, statistical properties of the Viterbi algorithm are used to design parallel Viterbi decoders with very high data decoding rates. The article focuses on the implementation of a Viterbi decoder in hardware, including optimizations to improve the area and performance.

In this paper, the authors elucidate the characteristics of the computer game Daihinmin, a popular Japanese card game that uses imperfect information. They first propose a method to extract feature values using n-gram statistics and a cluster analysis method that employs feature values. By representing the program card hands as several symbols, and the order of hands as simplified symbol strings, they obtain data that is suitable for feature extraction. The authors then evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method through computer experiments. In these experiments, they apply their method to ten programs that were used in the UEC Computer Daihinmin Convention. In addition, the authors evaluate the robustness of the proposed method and apply it to recent programs. Finally, they show that their proposed method can successfully cluster Daihinmin programs with high probability.

Traditional high-throughput experiments increase the test efficiency by designing component gradient tests and other methods. This article intends to improve the traditional high-throughput experiments and proposes an experimental scheme combining nanoindentation technology and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Based on a new Ti-Mo-Al-Zr-Cr-Sn alloy, micro-region composition and corresponding performance at multiple indentations are directly characterized, including a series of different alloy compositions composed of 8 elements such as Mo, Al and the corresponding hardness (H) and elastic modulus (E). Then the principal analysis method in statistics, the theory of molybdenum equivalent and aluminum equivalent are used to process the obtained data, and a series of atlases such as "E-H-component characteristic parameters" and "E-H-alloy equivalents" are constructed, which has achieved high-throughput characterization of the relationship between composition and performance of titanium alloy. Related work can not only quickly determine the alloy composition range corresponding to high E and high H values, but also provide guidance for further optimization of titanium alloy composition design.
