The present study analyses a transport system in a discontinuous space. Classical specifications of transport models cannot be applied directly when evaluating the influence of territorial discontinuity and related barriers on user behaviour. Adjustments are required for this specific case because studies relative to discontinuous spaces are limited. The influence concerns the different travel components (access, barrier, on board, and egress) and could impact travel choices (departure time, destination, mode, and path). In this paper, the models refer to access and egress components with a focus on the mode of travel choice level. The paper focusses on the influence of discontinuity, introducing some adjustments to the classical demand models used to simulate discontinuity crossing. The main variables influencing the user’s choice, and their relative weight in discontinuous space, are investigated. These elements are fundamental for any planning and design procedures to improve the quality of mobility. In the paper, the case study of the Strait of Messina in southern Italy is analysed. In this case, the barrier is constituted by the sea that physically separates the two shores. In this work, only strait crossings via hydrofoil, from Reggio Calabria to Messina, are considered in random sample interviews.

Abstract We may see modern urbanism as a collection of many successful developments as well as a series of endless mistakes and repeated failures. The paper focuses on the analysis of existing and former urban planning and design patterns in aspect of efficiency of applied methods to achieve higher quality referring to the philosophy and practice of Landscape Urbanism. The Missionaries Block in Vilnius City serves as a case study for assessing its development in three distinguishable periods by the set of quality criteria derived from Landscape Urbanism theories and practices. The assessment results disclose an evident drop in the overall quality of the selected site’s development in the recent period. The paper discusses if and how one may use the method employed hereby for programming and shaping the future regeneration and redevelopment of existing urban setting.

Woman participation in mosque is allowable although it is non-compulsory in Islam. For some other culture, this may seem at awe thus leads to the ignorance towards the design quality of the women’s praying area in the mosque.  In Malaysia, besides for the main purpose of praying, woman participation in mosque for community, and educational activities is a common scenario. Never the less, it is identifiable in some mosques that the design sensitivity of the women praying area are still questionable. This research examines the space provision and the privacy issues of the woman’s praying area of Masjid Raja Haji Fii-sabilillah, Cyberjaya. The objectives of this paper is to investigate the space provision and spatial quality of the women praying quarters of the studied mosque. Due to its exploratory nature, qualitative methods were employed through observation of the case study and analytical analysis of the mosque layout. Data collected are analysed in order to derive on the planning and design quality of the women praying area of the mosque. The findings indicate that the praying area of the mosque is of the insensitive state towards women in terms that of it lacks of privacy through the screening material selection and accessible route from the ablution area to the praying hall.

Education tourism is a program where tourists visit a tourism destination with the main purpose to receive experience in education directly in the tourism object. In those places visitors could do tourism activities and also studying with fun methods. Kandank Jurank Doank is a tourism object that is located in Ciputat – South Tangerang. This tourism object which applies the concept of Education Tourism has become a choice for people of Jakarta city and around for recreation because of its location which is not far from the center of Jakarta city. This research is a descriptive with the support of qualitative data. The technique of data collecting is done through observation, questionnaire interviews, and documentation study. The informants in this research are the management parties of the tourism object Kandank Jurank Doank, in order to gain data which is actual with internal and external condition in Kandank Jurank Doank. Factor Analysis Internal and External is set by the management party of Kandank Jurank Doank through questionnaire technique, and then continued by relative weight calculation of Internal and External Factors with weighing questionnaire for Internal and External Factors. After finding the relative weight of Internal and External Factors, continuing with EFE Matrix and IFE Matrix to determine the total score of EFE and IFE which later will be used to scale the I-E Matrix, and then continued with the SWOT Matrix to determine the strategies of development for the tourism object of Kandank Jurank Doank. And the strategy that is received from the SWOT Matrix is to develop the potencies that are possessed by the company and to keep the existing tourism concept, and also to optimize the management information system in the activities of education tourism in Kandank Jurank Doank, improving service and the quality of Human Resource, in the aspect of comfort and security in order to increase the satisfaction of the consumers, designing education tourism activites that utilize the existing space and facilities, improving the cooperation with government, local people, and also the tourists themselves, and to utilize the use of internet to maximise the promotion program and the information of the tourism object of Kandank Jurank Doank, and also to form cooperations with investors in order to help the development of Kandank Jurank Doank.

Of the approximately 100,000 km of High-Speed Rail (HSR) lines in the world today, half are in operation and half are planned or under construction. The implementation of HSRs are planned in various countries with different characteristics to pursue different objectives. Today, the results are known, and therefore, the differences between the planned and achieved objectives can be verified. Italy is one of the countries that first built an HSR, and now, at the national planning level, Italy has decided to implement an HSR in Southern Italy. The problem is therefore not “whether” to realize an HSR but “which” type of HSR to realize. Italy is an important case study at the international level because it is possible to extend the HSR network in three different ways: upgrading existing lines by increasing the speed to 200 km/h, building a new line with speeds of 300 km/h with heavy freight trains, and building a new line with speeds of 300 km/h without heavy freight trains. The problem is how to find the best alternative in order to pursue sustainable development while considering national planning. To solve this problem, at the intermediate level between planning and design, the theoretical Lean, Agile, Resilient, Green (LARG) paradigm is proposed and applied. This approach can be extended to all countries that are launching massive and expensive programs to construct HSR lines or to upgrade existing lines.

This report presents findings on the evaluation of foundation layers under concrete pavements in the state of Illinois. It also provides recommendations and scenarios where unbound granular layers can be safely used under concrete pavements as economical and well-performing subbase layers. The current practice and mechanistic design methods for constructing concrete pavements in Illinois was first evaluated, including historical studies that led to the current design procedures and policies. The performance of concrete pavements with unbound granular layers in Illinois were then evaluated, and several case studies of well-performing concrete pavements with granular subbases, high traffic levels, and low distress levels and severity were realized. Next, the practices of surrounding states were evaluated, and several Midwest states, i.e., Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Michigan, were found to regularly use unbound granular layers under concrete pavements with no issues. A literature review on the most recent requirements and recommendations for designing granular subbases under concrete pavements was then presented. It is concluded that subbase layers under concrete pavements are mainly used to provide uniform support and prevent pumping. Based on the case study evaluations and literature, a stable, drainable, and durable daylighted granular subbase design is recommended for traffic factors up to 10.0. Stability is ensured by limiting the ratio of gravel-to-sand fractions in the aggregate mix between 1.3 and 1.9. Drainability requirements can be met by limiting the percentage of fines passing the No. 200 sieve (0.075 mm) to 4% and by checking the quality of drainage is at least fair based on the time required to drain 50% of the water. Lastly, a geotextile fabric is recommended for use below the granular subbase for separation to ensure drainability throughout design life.

Purpose Misophonia is a sound tolerance disorder condition in certain sounds that trigger intense emotional or physiological responses. While some persons may experience misophonia, a few patients suffer from misophonia. However, there is a dearth of literature on audiological assessment and management of persons with misophonia. The purpose of this report is to discuss the assessment of misophonia and highlight the management option that helped a patient with misophonia. Method A case study of a 26-year-old woman with the complaint of decreased tolerance to specific sounds affecting quality of life is reported. Audiological assessment differentiated misophonia from hyperacusis. Management included retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy based on the principles described by P. J. Jastreboff and Jastreboff (2014). A misophonia questionnaire was administered at regular intervals to monitor the effectiveness of therapy. Results A detailed case history and audiological evaluations including pure-tone audiogram and Johnson Hyperacusis Index revealed the presence of misophonia. The patient benefitted from intervention, and the scores of the misophonia questionnaire indicated a decrease in the severity of the problem. Conclusions It is important to differentially diagnose misophonia and hyperacusis in persons with sound tolerance disorders. Retraining counseling as well as desensitization and habituation therapy can help patients who suffer from misophonia.

This paper presents a successful behavioral case study in treatment of chronic refractory cough in a 60-year-old adult female. The efficacy for speech-language pathology treating chronic cough is discussed along with description of treatment regime. Discussion focuses on therapy approaches used and the patient's report of changes in quality of life and frequency, duration, and severity reduction of her cough after treatment.

So far, in implementing school strategies, they tend not to utilize Information and Communication Technology (ICT), despite the availability of ICT resources available. Stages of strategic management are needed to generate the vision, mission, objectives, policy, program, budget, and procedures as well as control and evaluation process as an effort to utilize ICT to improve school quality. Based on the interpretation and the results of the study, it is concluded that schools have organized stages in strategic management that enable schools to have a quality profile. The impact of effective utilization of ICTs for schools is the achievement of effective school management, as per the National Education Standards, which is characterized by effective planning, implementation, control, and evaluation of school ICTs.The purpose of this study is to get a general description, describe, and reveal the Strategic Management of Information and Communication Technology Utilization to Improve the Quality of School Learning in Ciledug Al Musaddadiyah Vocational High School and Garut 1 Vocational High School, both on environmental analysis, strategic formulation, implementation and strategic evaluation. The research method used in this research is the case study method, because the problems studied occur in the place and situation of Ciledug Al Musaddadiyah Vocational School and Vocational High School 1 Garut. The use of case study models in this study is based on the consideration that to provide an overview of the strategic management activities of the use of ICTs carried out at vocational high schools with the ultimate goal of being able to improve the quality of school learning. Based on observations in the field of SMK 1 Garut and SMK Al Musaddadiyah Ciledug Garut is one of the public schools and private schools that have these advantages.
