This paper reports on designing a single-structure triaxes MEMS capacitive gyroscope which is capable of measuring the three angular velocities on a single drive. A Z-shaped beam for the support of folded coupling spring has been applied to suppress the unwanted mode and decrease the stress effect at the spring ends. The unique coupling spring has changed the driving motion, due to which slide film damping in the driving mode has been reduced. This reduction can lead to higher performance of the sensor with less requirements on vacuum level which decreases the cost of fabrication. Simulation analysis has been performed in COMSOL Multiphysics and Matlab Simulink to finalize the design for fabrication. After finite element analysis, the driving, x-sensing, z-sensing, and y-sensing are, respectively, found to be 13.30 KHz, 13.40 KHz, 13.47 KHz, and 13.51 KHz.

According to the characteristics of car seat structure and the distribution of car seat load, the finite element static strength model of the car seat is constructed in this paper. The model contains shell elements and beam elements. Some seat structure elements such as welding connection, screw connection, pin connection are simplified in the model. Simulation analysis of the static characteristics of car seat backrest frame model is carried out. At the same time, the experimental research on the static strength characteristics of the back seat is made by the measurements of non-electric physical quantities. By comparing and analyzing the results of experiment and computer simulation of seat static strength, the practicability and credibility of the seat static finite element analysis model and simplified model constructed in this paper are verified. It also proves that the simulation of various connecting forms of the seat structure is effective and is a reliable method in the structural design of the car seat. The model and simulation of the car seat can reduce the cost and shorten the design period.

In this study, a micro-molding technology was used to prepare the microneedles (MNs), while a texture analyzer was used to measure its Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio and compression breaking force, to evaluate whether the MNs can penetrate the skin. The effects of different materials were characterized by their ability to withstand stresses using the Structural Mechanics Module of COMSOL Multiphysics. Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) was chosen as the needle formulation material with varying quantities of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and hyaluronic acid (HA) to adjust the viscosity, brittleness, hardness and solubility of the material. The results of both the experimental tests and the predictions indicated that the hardest tip material had a solids content of 15% (w/w ) with a 1:2 (w/w) CMC: HA ratio. Furthermore, it was shown that a solid content of 10% (w/w) with a 1:5 (w/w) CMC: PVA ratio is suitable for making patches. The correlation between the mechanical properties and the different materials was found using the simulation analysis as well as the force required for different dissolving microneedles (DMNs) to penetrate the skin, which significantly promoted the research progress of microneedle transdermal drug delivery.

In this paper, a COMSOL Multiphysics-based methodology is presented for evaluation of the microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) gyroscope. The established finite element analysis (FEA) model was successfully validated through a comparison with analytical and Matlab/Simulink analysis results. A simplified single-drive, 3-axis MEMS gyroscope was analyzed using a mode split approach, having a drive resonant frequency of 24,918 Hz, with the x-sense, y-sense, and z-sense being 25,625, 25,886, and 25,806 Hz, respectively. Drive-mode analysis was carried out and a maximum drive-displacement of 4.0 μm was computed for a 0.378 μN harmonic drive force. Mechanical sensitivity was computed at 2000 degrees per second (dps) input angular rate while the scale factor for roll, pitch, and yaw was computed to be 0.014, 0.011, and 0.013 nm/dps, respectively.

ABSTRACT: Tire qualification for an original equipment (OE) program consists of several rounds of submissions by the tire manufacturer for evaluation by the vehicle manufacturer. Tires are evaluated both subjectively, where the tire performance is rated by an expert driver, and objectively, where sensors and testing instruments are used to measure the tire performance. At the end of each round of testing the evaluation results are shared and requirements for performance improvement for the next round are communicated with the tire manufacturer. As building and testing is both expensive and time consuming predictive modeling and simulation analysis that can be applied to the performance of the tire is of great interest and value. This paper presents an application of finite element analysis (FEA) modeling along with experimental verification to solve tire noise objections at certain frequencies raised by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) account. Coupled structural-acoustic analysis method was used to find modal characteristics of the tire at the objectionable frequencies. Sensitivity calculations were then carried out to evaluate the strength of contribution from each tire component to the identified modes. Based on these findings changes to the construction were proposed and implemented that addressed the noise issue.

Natural convection of a magneto hydrodynamic nanofluid in a porous cavity in the presence of a magnetic field is investigated. The two vertical side walls are held isothermally at temperatures Th and Tc, while the horizontal walls of the outer cone are adiabatic. The governing equations obtained with the Boussinesq approximation are solved using Comsol Multiphysics finite element analysis and simulation software. Impact of Rayleigh number (Ra), Hartmann number (Ha) and nanofluid volume fraction (ϕ) are depicted. Results indicated that temperature gradient increases considerably with enhance of Ra and ϕ but it reduces with increases of Ha.

The shared supply chain model has provided new ideas for solving contradictions between supply and demand for large-scale standardized production by manufacturers and personalized demands of consumers. On the basis of a platform network effect perspective, this study constructs an evolutionary game model of value co-creation behavior for a shared supply chain platform and manufacturers, analyzes their evolutionary stable strategies, and uses numerical simulation analysis to further verify the model. The results revealed that the boundary condition for manufacturers to participate in value co-creation on a shared supply chain platform is that the net production cost of the manufacturers’ participation in the platform value co-creation must be less than that of nonparticipation. In addition, the boundary condition for the shared supply chain platform to actively participate in value co-creation is that the cost of the shared supply chain platform for active participation in value co-creation must be less than that of passive participation. Moreover, value co-creation behavior on the shared supply chain platform is a dynamic game interaction process between players with different benefit perceptions. Finally, the costs and benefits generated by the network effect can affect value co-creation on shared supply chain platforms.

Compared with other materials, high-volume fraction aluminum-based silicon carbide composites (hereinafter referred to as SiCp/Al) have many advantages, including high strength, small change in the expansion coefficient due to temperature, high wear resistance, high corrosion resistance, high fatigue resistance, low density, good dimensional stability, and thermal conductivity. SiCp/Al composites have been widely used in aerospace, ordnance, transportation service, precision instruments, and in many other fields. In this study, the ABAQUS/explicit large-scale finite element analysis platform was used to simulate the milling process of SiCp/Al composites. By changing the parameters of the tool angle, milling depth, and milling speed, the influence of these parameters on the cutting force, cutting temperature, cutting stress, and cutting chips was studied. Optimization of the parameters was based on the above change rules to obtain the best processing combination of parameters. Then, the causes of surface machining defects, such as deep pits, shallow pits, and bulges, were simulated and discussed. Finally, the best cutting parameters obtained through simulation analysis was the tool rake angle γ0 = 5°, tool clearance angle α0 = 5°, corner radius r = 0.4 mm, milling depth ap = 50 mm, and milling speed vc= 300 m/min. The optimal combination of milling parameters provides a theoretical basis for subsequent cutting.

On the basis of strength above,8 types of the axial force are analyzed and summarized, find valuable rules, and put forward the further optimization design. So that it can satisfy the strength and stability of air cooling tower, the structure is more reasonable, reduce weight, reduce the cost.

As a result of enhanced performance and mission requirements for Navy ships, ship design has dramatically increased the use of higher strength, lightweight steels and various local reinforcements, e.g., deck inserts, ring stiffeners, etc., in foundation designs to satisfy the design requirements for supporting machinery, consoles, and weapon systems among others. In additional to operational loading requirements, most of these foundations must also be designed to satisfy shock, vibration and other combat system requirements. While the same piece of equipment may be used in other ship contracts, the foundations are uniquely designed and require a separate analysis and drawing package. Computer modeling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) have helped reduce the labor required to analyze foundations, but the high number of “unique” foundations as well as changes which necessitate a new analysis still create a large workload for engineers. This is further compounded by increased costs in production due to greater numbers of unique parts and materials that must be marked, stored, and retrieved later for fabrication. This goal of this project was to determine the cost-savings potential of leveraging past foundations work in designing, analyzing, and drawing foundations in the future. By the project’s conclusion Ingalls will have created a database for rapid access to previously-generated foundation information, the framework of which will be publicly available for all shipyards to populate with their own foundation information.
