Background. Histomorphic evaluation of dermal collagen and elastic fibres was analysed by image analysis technique. The quantification of dermal elements was performed in skin tissues, collected in horizontal and vertical directions from trunk region and discussed under the perspective of consequences of scar related complications.Materials and Method. Total number of 200 skin samples collected from 5 areas of trunk region were processed histologically and subjected to tissue-quant image analysis. Statistical analysis involving mean with SEM and pairedttest by SPSS were employed to the percentage values obtained from image analysis.Result. Among the chosen 5 areas of trunk region, abdomen showed the statistically significant difference for both collagen and elastic content between horizontal and vertical orientations (P< 0.05), whereas upper back, presternal, and lateral chest areas showed significant difference (P< 0.05) only for collagen and groin only for elastic content.Conclusion. The differences in the distribution of dermal collagen and elastic fibres in 2 directions of the samples from the same areas might be attributed to final outcome of wound healing process by influencing the appearance and behaviour of scar related complications in the region of trunk.

Background. Clinically, scar related complications are observed to be dissimilar in different regions of the body. Unequal distribution of dermal collagen and elastic fibres in different orientations could be one of the multifocal causes of scar related complications, for which this evaluating study has been taken up. Materials and Method. 300 skin samples collected in horizontal and vertical orientations were studied histomorphometrically. This study involved image analysis of specially stained histological section using tissue-quant software. The outcome result was termed as quantitative fraction. From the result, various ratio values were also calculated for the ratio analysis. Results. The differences in the quantitative fraction of dermal elastic content between 2 directions were statistically significant at joint areas (shoulder joint, wrist, and ankle) (P<0.001) but for collagen, significant difference was observed at shoulder joint and wrist only. Dermis of the forearm and thigh did not show any differences in their collagen content, but for elastic, thigh did show a significant difference while forearm had no change between 2 directions. Conclusion. Analysis of unequal content of dermal element in two directions under the perspective of wound healing consequences is subjective depending upon the anatomical position and functional status of the areas.

Background. Unequal distribution of dermal collagen and elastic fibers in different orientations of skin is reported to be one of the multifocal causes of scar related complications. Present study is to understand the correlation pattern between collagen in horizontal (CH) and in vertical (CV) directions as well as that of elastic in horizontal (EH) and vertical (EV) directions.Materials and Method. A total of 320 skin samples were collected in two orientations from suprascapular, anterior chest, lateral chest, anterior abdominal wall, and inguinal regions of 32 human cadavers. Spearman correlation coefficient (r) was calculated between the variables (CH,CV,EH, andEV).Results. Significant positive correlation betweenCHandCV, and betweenEHandEVobserved in all 5 areas tested. A negative correlation betweenCVandEVat suprascapular, lateral chest, and inguinal regions and negative correlation betweenCHandEHat anterior chest and anterior abdominal wall have been identified.Conclusion. Knowledge of asymmetric content of dermal collagen and elastic fibers together with the varied strength and degree of association in the given area provides guidelines to the dermatologists and aesthetic surgeons in placing elective incisions in the direction maximally utilizing the anatomical facts for aesthetically pleasing result.

The snakehead (Channa striata) contained fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 are useful as nutrients in accelerating the wound healing process. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the oil phase extract ointment snakehead in the healing of acute wounds open stage II. Testing the effectiveness of wound healing using 6 groups: normal, gel bioplacenton (positive control), ointment base (negative control), ointments snakehead extract oil phase concentration of 10; 20 and 40% of the 4 rats with acute wounds open stage II and observation until day 16 injury. The area of the wound was measured with the image J program Macbiophotonic, calculated% healing power, and AUC values. A statistical test to the total AUC values per rat with SPSS for Windows 22.0 program using One Way ANOVA and Post-hoc LSD test. The results showed a significant difference in the negative group with ointment concentration of 20% (p <0.05). The treatment group phase ointment fish oil extract is effective for wound healing is best to have a concentration of 20% for percentage of wound healing power of 97.157% and the average AUC value of 865.683% of the day.

Objective: Based on the observation of Computed Tomography (CT) image analysis technique, the efficacy of Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) and Dynamic hip screw (DHS) in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly was analyzed. Methods: Thirty-nine elderly patients with unstable intertrochanteric fractures were randomly divided into two groups: 19 patients in the DHS internal fixation group and 20 patients in the PFNA group. They were treated with DHS and PFNA internal fixation, and were observed based on CT image analysis techniques. The patient performs follow-up testing of the procedure before and after surgery. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in mean operative time and intraoperative blood loss between the groups (P < 0.01). The incidence of intraoperative and postoperative complications was statistically different between the two groups (P < 0.05). The incidence of postoperative and postoperative complications in the PFNA group was lower than that in the DHS group. The excellent and good rates of DHS group and PFNA group were 89.47% and 95.00%, respectively. There was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). There was a significant difference in fracture healing time between the PFNA group and the DHS group (P < 0.01). Discussion: Compared with DHS, PFNA has the advantages of short operation time, low bleeding volume and short hospital stay. There were 7 cases of internal fixation failure or non-union in the DHS group and 1 case of delayed healing in the PFNA group. Conclusion: DHS and PFNA were used to treat intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. After observation by CT image analysis technique, there was no significant difference in efficacy. The average operative time of PFNA was the shortest, the intraoperative blood loss was the least, the incidence of intraoperative and postoperative complications was low, and the fracture healing time was short. PFNA has a lesser effect on the blood circulation and bone destruction at the fracture end, and it is more secure. It is a reasonable surgical method for the treatment of senile osteoporotic intertrochanteric fractures.

An appendectomy is a surgical intervention that has the purpose of ablative surgery or removal of body parts that contain problems or have disease. One of the postoperative treatments of apendectomy is with wound care. The current wound care treatment is modern and conventional wound care. Objective: This study was to investigate the effect of treatment of postoperative wound healing apendectomy. Methodology: The design used in this research is Quasi Experiment, with posttest-only design approach. The number of samples taken is 18 respondent. Taking sampling with accidental sampling technique. Result: The result shows that p-value 0.001, with mean value in intervention group was 5.50 and in control group 13.50. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the wound healing process using conventional and modern wound care.Keywords                    : type of wound care, post operative apendectomy

Background: Ethanol extract of binjai leaves contain bioactive compounds in the form of flavonoid and saponin which is potential as anti-inflammatory, so it will be able to control the wound healing process. Binjai leaves extract can affect the number of neutrophil on inflammatory phase, as it is characterized by neutrophil cells infiltration to the wound tissue, so its number will increase at the beginning of inflammatory phase and decrease on the 3rd day. Objective: To prove the effect of binjai leaves extract in 1 mg/mL, 2 mg/mL, and 3 mg/mL which given topically to the number of neutrophil in day 1, 3, and 5 of wound incision on the back of male mice. Methods: The study design was a pure laboratory experimental study with post-test only with control group design which involved 36 mice divided into 4 groups: negative control group design which was given BR2 feed, treatment group which was given binjai leaves extract in 1 mg/mL, 2 mg/mL, and 3 mg/mL. Results: The result of One-way ANOVA showed that there was significant difference of all groups in day 1 (p=0.000), day 3 (p=0.001), and day 5 (p=0.000). Post-Hoc LSD test showed that there was significant difference (p<0.05) between the negative control group and treatment groups. Conclusion: Binjai leaves extract has an effect to increase the number of neutrophil in day 1 and decrease the number of neutrophil in day 3 and 5 on the healing of back wound incision in mice.

Catfish (Clarias batrachus) oil contain the highest amount of omega-3-PUFA among other freshwater fish. The omega-3-PUFA in fish oil produced eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It is known that EPA and DHA in essentials fatty acid (EFA) could improve BMP-2 expression. Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) is bone stimulator which capable of inducing differentiation of mesenchymal cells into osteoblast, stimulating bone formation in wound healing process of dental extraction. Purpose: To prove the increasing expression of BMP-2 after catfish (Clarias batrachus) oil application. Methods: We have used the post test only design in this research. There have been 21 Rattus novergicus as research samples, and those were divided into 3 groups, group KK as control, group KP1 was given catfish (Clarias batrachus) oil in 5% concentration, and group KP2 was given catfish (Clarias batrachus) oil in 10% concentration. Catfish (Clarias batrachus) oil were applied into the socket of dental extraction. Rat was decapulated 7 days after fish oil application and the jaw in the treated regions and control group were cut for immunohistochemistry examination to observe BMP-2 expression. Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA test.  Result: There is significant difference increased of BMP-2 expression between control and treatment group. In samples given with 10% concentration of catfish oil had the most significant increase of BMP-2 expression. Conclusion: Catfish (Clarias batrachus) oil in 10% concentration could increase the expression of BMP-2 post dental extraction.Key words: Catfish oil, BMP-2, dental extraction.

The prevalence of cesarean section (SC) continues to increase along with the quality of technical facilities improvement. Failure to recover the surgical wounds after cesarean section is one of the possible SC complications that should be taken seriously. Proper nutrition greatly affect to wound healing. This study aims to found the effectiveness of high protein nutrients intake for post SC wound healing process at dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital Banda Aceh. Design: This study is an experimental research with post test for intervention and control group design and using purposive sampling with the observation format as the measuring instrument. A total of 30 mother with post sectio caesarea participated in this study. There was a significant difference between post-SC wound healing in the intervention group (46.7%) compare to the control group (6.7%) (0.000). The mean of wound healing in the proliferation phase in the intervention group was faster than the control group respectively (10.47; 7.93). The hospital should provide information and evaluate high protein intake especially in post-SC patients during the treatment time, so that the patient is able to apply the information until they are going back home.

Burn usually happened at home and the most common are second degree burns. Betel leaves is a natural subtances that have active ingredients such as saponin, tannin, flavonoid, and atsiri essential oil. Betel leaves is used to accelerate wound healing process. This study aims to find out effectiveness differences of green betel leaves (piper betle linn) and red betel leaves exstract (piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) on granulation tissue thickness in second degree burns treatmen on male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) strain wistar. This study method used is true experiment post-test only control design. The samples were 18 male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) strain wistar. Sampling method used simple random sampling which devided in two intervention group measuring granulation tissue thickness on 14th day under microscop OLYMPUS XC10 (40x). Data were analyzed using independent t-test. The results is statistically significant difference in granulation tissue thickness between two treatment groups (p=0,000). The mean for granulation tissue thickness in green betel leaves extract intervention group was 210,01 µm (131,03 µm – 267,25 µm) and 323,12 µm (267,58 µm – 381,70 µm) in red betel leaves extract. It can be concluded that there are a defference between green betel leaves (piper betle linn) and red betel leaves (piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) extract efectiveness in increasing of granulation tissue thickness in second degree burns. From this research there are opportunities in the use of red betel leaves extract on burns treatment, but advanced research should be done before applied to humans.
