Chronic pain has to be considered in all respects a debilitating disease and 10–20% of the world's adult population is affected by this disease. In the most general terms, pain is symptomatic of some form of dysfunction and (often) the resulting inflammatory processes in the body. In the study of pain, great attention has been paid to the possible involvement of gonadal hormones, especially in recent years. In particular, testosterone, the main androgen, is thought to play a beneficial, protective role in the body. Other important elements to be related to pain, inflammation, and hormones are lipids, heterogenic molecules whose altered metabolism is often accompanied by the release of interleukins, and lipid-derived proinflammatory mediators. Here we report data on interactions often not considered in chronic pain mechanisms.

Over the past decades, more and more attention in medical science has been paid to the diagnosis and study of pain mechanisms in the pediatric population. According to experts in the field of chronic pain in children, it occurs in 12% of all pediatric patients, which negatively affects the quality of children’s life and life of their families. Today, a particularly important problem in most countries of the world is pain in children with paralytic syndromes of III - V level according to GMFCS. About 20-35% of children with paralytic syndromes suffer from chronic pain. Although there are means and knowledge on how to treat pain, children's pain is often not recognized, ignored, or even denied. More than 50% of children with paralytic syndromes suffer from moderate to severe pain daily and in several parts of the body. The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) defines pain as “an unpleasant, sensual, and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or perceived tissue damage. The inability to communicate verbally does not negate the possibility that the individual is in pain and needs appropriate analgesic treatment. Pain is always subjective ... ". Determining the type of pain helps to identify its cause, which can guide the choice of treatment. The main cause of pain in children includes acute nociceptive pain (ie pain caused by activation of peripheral nerve endings, including somatic and visceral pain), neuropathic pain (ie due to damage or dysfunction of the somatosensory system), psychosocial - spiritual - emotional pain. Chronic pain is a continuous or intermittent pain that lasts longer than the expected normal recovery period. Chronic pain can also occur and persist in the absence of a specific pathophysiology or medical condition. The expression of pain depends on a child's age, cognitive development and socio-cultural context.

: Fluoro-edenite (FE) is an asbestos-like amphibole present in the bentonitic lavas extracted from a stone quarry in Biancavilla, a village sited in the Etnean Volcanic Area (Italy). : Thoracic pathologies are the results of excessive inflammatory processes that are the early response of the immune system to inhaled fibers. As demonstrated for asbestos, fibers may trigger immune system cells in an acute and/or chronic manner. This review aims to clarify the pathways of inflammation in workers exposed to FE fibers. : Based on the articles reviewed, it seems that a permanent stimulus created by repeatedly inhaling the FE fibers and their persistence in the body can act as trigger both in promoting inflammatory processes and in immunological induction of autoimmune disease.

Chronic pain is considered maladaptive by clinicians because it provides no apparent protective or recuperative benefits. Similarly, evolutionary speculations have assumed that chronic pain represents maladaptive or evolutionarily neutral dysregulation of acute pain mechanisms. By contrast, the present hypothesis proposes that chronic pain can be driven by mechanisms that evolved to reduce increased vulnerability to attack from predators and aggressive conspecifics, which often target prey showing physical impairment after severe injury. Ongoing pain and anxiety persisting long after severe injury continue to enhance vigilance and behavioural caution, decreasing the heightened vulnerability to attack that results from motor impairment and disfigurement, thereby increasing survival and reproduction (fitness). This hypothesis is supported by evidence of animals surviving and reproducing after traumatic amputations, and by complex specializations that enable primary nociceptors to detect local and systemic signs of injury and inflammation, and to maintain low-frequency discharge that can promote ongoing pain indefinitely. Ongoing activity in nociceptors involves intricate electrophysiological and anatomical specializations, including inducible alterations in the expression of ion channels and receptors that produce persistent hyperexcitability and hypersensitivity to chemical signals of injury. Clinically maladaptive chronic pain may sometimes result from the recruitment of this powerful evolutionary adaptation to severe bodily injury. Inflammation is a physiological process involved in the defenses of the body and the repair of tissues. It is acutely activated by infections, trauma, toxins, or allergic reactions. However, if it becomes chronic, inflammation can end up stimulating the development of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, neurological disease, or cancer. Additionally, during aging, inflammation becomes increasingly more chronic. Furthermore, we found that certain foods, such as saturated fats, have pro-inflammatory activity. Taking this into account, in this review we have discussed different diets with possible anti-inflammatory activity, the commonly ingested components of each diet and their active compounds. In addition, we have proposed some dietary guidelines, as well as a list of compounds present in foods with anti-inflammatory activity, outlining how to combine them to achieve optimal anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, we can conclude that the compounds in our diet with anti-inflammatory activity could help alleviate the inflammatory processes derived from diseases and unhealthy diets, and thereby promote healthy aging.

Recent research shows that heart rate variability biofeedback can help the alcoholic/addict recover in three crucial ways, namely (1) treating the associated comorbidities (depression, anxiety, chronic pain), (2) treating the physiology around craving, and (3) returning to a loving and nurturing relationship with one's own body instead of an abusive and exploitive one.

Chitinase-like proteins (CLPs) of the 18 glycosyl hydrolase family retain structural similarity to chitinases but lack enzymatic activity. Although CLPs are upregulated in several human disorders that affect regenerative and inflammatory processes, very little is known about their normal physiological function. We show that an insect CLP (Drosophila imaginal disc growth factor 3, IDGF3) plays an immune-protective role during entomopathogenic nematode (EPN) infections. During these infections, nematodes force their entry into the host via border tissues, thus creating wounds. Whole-genome transcriptional analysis of nematode-infected wild-type and Idgf3 mutant larvae have shown that, in addition to the regulation of genes related to immunity and wound closure, IDGF3 represses Jak/STAT and Wingless signaling. Further experiments have confirmed that IDGF3 has multiple roles in innate immunity. It serves as an essential component required for the formation of hemolymph clots that seal wounds, and Idgf3 mutants display an extended developmental delay during wound healing. Altogether, our findings indicate that vertebrate and invertebrate CLP proteins function in analogous settings and have a broad impact on inflammatory reactions and infections. This opens the way to further genetic analysis of Drosophila IDGF3 and will help to elucidate the exact molecular context of CLP function.

The primary factor causing periodontal damage is plaque bacteria. The etiological structure of infectious processes in the last decade has changed significantly, due to the constant evolution of microbes and the involvement of opportunistic microbes in the pathological process, which can act as commensals in the normal microflora and manifest their pathogenicity with a decrease in the body's immune status. Inflammatory processes in the oral cavity are sometimes an endogenous infection caused by the resident flora of not only the oral cavity, but also other ecosystems of the body.

Literary data on the location of the flat epithelium in the cavity of the body of the uterus are very scarce and are limited to only a few articles that interpret the atypical location of the flat epithelium or in inflammatory processes of the uterus, or in cancers of the uterus.Among the works dealing with the question of finding flat epithelium in inflammatory processes of the body of the uterus should be attributed to the work of Zeller, which appeared in 1884.In the number of works treating flat epithelial cancer of the body of the uterus, we have the reports of Piering and Gebhardt.
