Series of novel bis-heterocycles bearing isoxazoline and imidazole moieties have been synthesizedvia1,3-dipolarcycloaddition reactions.1HNMR,13CNMR, IR and elemental analyses characterized the newly synthesized compounds. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity and were compared with the standard drugs. The compounds demonstrated potent to weak antimicrobial activity.

A series of methyl-2-aminopyridine-4-carboxylate derivatives,3a–f,were synthesized in order to determine theirin vitroantimicrobial activity. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, FT-IR, and1H NMR spectral studies. Among the synthesized compounds,3cand3dshowed good antimicrobial activity compared to other compounds in the series.

Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of different doses of Velosef in magnesium silica/chitosan nanocomposite in terms of structural, morphology, optical properties, and bioactivity. Loading Velosef in fine-sized magnesium silica/chitosan is an efficient engineering approach for drug delivery. The sol-gel process was used to prepare magnesium silica fine-sized before being blended into chitosan matrix, which acts as a potential morphogenetic biomaterial. The Velosef/magnesium silica/chitosan nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, FTIR, UV-absorption, and antimicrobial studies. The XRD was characteristic of the crystallinity degree of the MgO-SiO2/chitosan/Velosef nanocomposites with three maximum peaks at 26.37°, 33.34o, 36.9°. FTIR results indicated the structural change occurred with the Velosef sol-gel polymerization process. UV-absorbance reveals that the MgO-SiO2/chitosan nanocomposite appeared a high performance for loading Velosef at two absorption bands at 253 and 347 nm. The MgO-SiO2/Chitosan/Velosef nanocomposites showed considerable antimicrobial activity in opposition to the tested representative microorganisms. The maximum antimicrobial activity was obtained with MgO-SiO2/Chitosan against both Escherichia coli and Candida albicans (37 mm), while the minimum antimicrobial activity (30 mm) was recorded against B. mycoides and E. coli with control.

Honey samples from three different ecozones - coastal freshwater (Ogba), lowland rainforest (Oka-Akoko) and montane Sudan savanna (Mambilla plateau) – were subjected to melissopalynological, proximate and elemental analyses, as well as antimicrobial studies. The aim of the research was to determine the contribution of pollen, if any, in the antimicrobial activities of the studied honey samples. Standard preparation methods were adopted for these studies. The Mambilla honey recorded the highest pollen diversity, while that of Oka-Akoko and Ogba regions had similar diversity, both having lower values. The Ogba honey however contained the highest abundance of pollen. Proximate analysis showed that the Mambilla honey also recorded the highest values of moisture, ash, protein, fats and oil, as well as potassium and reducing sugars. Antimicrobial investigation revealed the highest antimicrobial activities for the Mambilla honey, followed by Oka-Akoko and Ogba against Staphylococcus aureus (gram positive) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (gram negative). Moisture content, proteins and carbohydrates were significantly different, with positive and negative trends respectively, when related with the antimicrobial activities of the honey samples. The pollen contents were also qualitatively different. This is the first time the antimicrobial activity of honey is ever traced to pollen contents.  More conclusions can be accurately made only after further research upon pollen grains directly.

A mononuclear copper(II) complex, [CuL] (1), and a phenolato-bridged trinuclear zinc(II) complex, [Zn3Cl2L2(DMF)2] (2), where L is the deprotonated form of N,N’-bis(4-bromosalicylidene)propane-1,3-diamine (H2L), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The Cu atom in complex 1 is in square planar coordination, while the terminal and central Zn atoms in complex 2 are in square pyramidal and octahedral coordination, respectively. The antibacterial activities of the complexes have been tested on the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and the yeast Candida parapsilosis.

A new complexes of the type ML, MʹL and M″L [where M=Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Mn(II), Mʹ=Fe(III) and M″=Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) and L=N1-[(1E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethylidene]-2-oxo-2H-chromene- 3-carbohydrazide (HL)] Schiff base have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, IR,1H NMR, UV-Visible and ESR data. The studies indicate the HL acts as doubly monodentate bridge for metal ions and form mononuclear complexes. The complexes Ni(II), Co(II), Cu(II) Mn(II) and Fe(III) complexes are found to be octahedral, where as Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes are four coordinated with tetrahedral geometry. The synthesized ligand and its metal complexes were screened for their antimicrobial activity.

Some new coordination compounds of palladium(II) have been synthesized by the reaction of palladium(II) acetate with azomethines in a 1 : 2 molar ratio using acetonitrile as a reaction medium. Azomethines used in these studies have been prepared by the condensation of 2-acetyl fluorene and 4-acetyl biphenyl with glycine, alanine, valine, and leucine in methanol. An attempt has been made to probe their bonding and structures on the basis of elemental analyses and IR,1H, and13C NMR spectral studies. Pd(II) compounds have been found to be more active than their uncomplexed ligands as both of them were screened for antibacterial, antifungal, and insecticidal activities.

Lanthanum(III) tris(O-tolyl/benzyldithiocarbonates), [La(ROCS2)] (R =o-,m-,p-CH3C6H4and C6H5CH2), were isolated as yellow solid by the reaction of LaCl3·7H2O with sodium salt of tolyl/benzyldithiocarbonates, ROCS2Na (R =o-,m-,p-CH3C6H4and C6H5CH2), in methanol under anhydrous conditions in 1 : 3 molar ratio. These complexes have formed adducts with nitrogen and phosphorus donor molecules by straightforward reaction of these complexes with donor ligands, which have the composition of the type [La(ROCS2)3·nL] (where n = 2, L = NC5H5or P(C6H5)3and n = 1, L = N2C12H8or N2C10H8). Elemental analyses, mass, IR, TGA, and heteronuclear NMR (1H,13C and31P) spectroscopic studies indicated bidentate mode of bonding by dithiocarbonate ligands leading to hexacoordinated and octacoordinated geometry around the lanthanum atom. Antimicrobial (antifungal and antibacterial) activity of the free ligands and some of the complexes have also been investigated which exhibited significantly more activity for the complexes than the free ligands.

In the present work, we report the one pot synthesis of tetrazole based 3-hydroxy-4H-chromen-4-ones 3(a-g) from  4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzaldehyde and 2-hydroxy acetophenone using KOH and H2O2 by modified Algar-Flynn-Oyamada reaction under conventional and microwave irradiation conditions. In this technique, flavonols are synthesized without isolating chalcones, in good yields. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, NMR, MS and elemental. All newly synthesized compounds were screened for their in-vitro antimicrobial activity against strains such as Staphylococcus aurous, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus Niger, Aspergillus flavus, and Fusarium oxysporum. The results of antimicrobial studies revealed that most of the compounds exhibit good activity.
