AbstractIn this paper, the unsaturated hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) of the bio-based polyamide 56 (PA56) with an odd-even unit structure were analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. It was proved that the bio-based PA56 had less saturated H-bonds, which became attenuated and blue-shifted at the temperature exceeding 260°C. Besides, as H-bond was decayed and broken, new unsaturated H-bonds readily formed. Moreover, the experimental results obtained strongly indicate that the unsaturated H-bonds of bio-based polyamide 56 could react with polar metal oxides. Besides, the intercalation of montmorillonite was found to have a significant influence on the hydrogen bond between polymer chains.

AbstractOn the basis of new experimental results a previous proposed correlation between the optical band gap of oxides and the difference of electronegativity of their constituents is extended to mixed crystalline and amorphous TiO2-Fe2O3 (d,d-metal oxides) as well as to amorphous passive films grown on Al-Ta, Al-Ti, Al-Nb and Al-W alloys (sp,d-metal oxides). Moreover in analogy with previous results on anhydrous oxides, a correlation is proposed between the optical band gap of hydroxides and the electronegativities of their constituents after substituting the electronegativity of hydroxilic group to that of the oxygen. Like in the case of anhydrous oxides, two different interpolation lines have been found for sp-metal and d-metal hydroxides, respectively.

Water-based infrared ray shielding coating, that is, nanometer metal oxide is added to the water-based paint, which has anti-IR features without affecting the transparency of the paint. In this paper, the nanometer oxides are prepared by sol-gel method, added into polypropylene sour. In order to improve the infrared ray shielding of the thin film, two kinds of nanometer oxides are added into the polypropylene sour with different volume ratios, the shielding performance of the paint is studied. Experimental results show: in the 8000 ~ 4000cm-1 range, the transmittances of infrared ray is 30% to 75%; in 4000 ~ 400cm-1 range, transmittances decrease significantly; 3% ZnO, 3% Fe2O3, 3% Y2O3, 2% Al2O3 are the best mass ratio of every single nanometer oxide; the infrared shielding rate of Fe2O3 and Y2O3 mixture with the volume ratio of 1 to 4 is better than Fe2O3 and Y2O3 single.

AbstractWe present experimental results regarding the thermodynamic stability of the high-k dielectrics ZrO2 and HfO2 in contact with Si and SiO2. The HfO2/Si interface is found to be stable with respect to formation of silicides whereas the ZrO2/Si interface is not. The metal oxide/SiO2 interface is marginally unstable with respect to formation of silicates. Cross-sectional transmission electron micrographs expose formation of nodules, identified as silicides, across the polysilicon/ZrO2/Si interfaces but not for the interfaces with HfO2. For both ZrO2 and HfO2, the X-ray photoemission spectra illustrate formation of silicate-like compounds in the MO2/SiO2 interface.

AbstractUsing glucose as a structuring additive and aluminium nitrate as the Al precursor, a novel kind of mesoporous Al2O3 microspheres with flower-like structure were synthesized hydrothermally at 180°C for 20 h. When the synthesis temperature was lowered to 140°C, the carambola-like Al2O3 can be synthesized. This approach is convenient and simple, and flower-like Ce-Al2O3 and La-Al2O3 spheres have also been prepared in this way. It may be applied to synthesize other metal oxides when suitable precursor salts are used. From an analysis of the experimental results, a mechanism for the formation of the flower-like Al2O3 spheres has been proposed and discussed.

This paper focuses on the effect of metal oxides on the mechanical properties of PA1010 composites, such as the tensile strength, compressive strength, shear strength and hardness. The experimental results show that the tensile strength of PA1010 composites filled with CuO and Al2O3 particles slightly decreases with the oxide contents increasing. However, the tensile strength of PA1010 composites filled with Fe3O4 particles increases, which has the average increment in tensile strength of 23.7% than the pure PA1010 materials. The results indicate that the compressive strength can be increased by adding CuO, Al2O3 and Fe3O4 particles into PA1010 polymer. The results exhibit that Fe3O4 particles have significant effects to increase the shear strength of PA1010 composites. However, Al2O3 particles filling reduce the shear strength of the composites.
