Esophageal cancer is one of the most common human malignancies and ranks sixth for global mortality; the major histological type is esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Here we assessed the effect of long non-coding (lnc) RNA OIP5-AS1 on the miR-30a-5p/Forkhead box protein D1 (FOXD1) axis in ESCC and investigated the underlying mechanism involving the ERK1/2 signaling pathway. lnc RNA OIP5-AS1 was highly expressed in human ESCC tissues and cells, targeted miR-30a-5p, and inhibited miR-30a-5p expression. Additionally, in human ESCC tissues, miR-30a-5p was poorly expressed, whereas FOXD1 mRNA and protein were highly expressed, with a negative correlation between miR-30a-5p and FOXD1 expression. miR-30a-5p targeted and inhibited FOXD1 expression. FOXD1 promoted the proliferation and invasion of ESCC and was related to the ERK1/2 signaling pathway; ERK1/2 inhibitors (LY-3214996) reversed the biological function of FOXD1. miR-30a-5p combined with FOXD1 regulated ERK1/2 expression and inhibited tumor growth in vivo. In this study, micro- and nano-particles were used as carriers to construct Nanocapsules carrying miR-30a-5p mimics and miR-30a-5p inhibitor through self-assembly method, so as to realize an efficient Nanocapsules delivery system of miR-30a-5p to esophageal cancer cells. It provides insights into targeted drug therapy and the development of micro- and nano-particles carriers.

This study aims to apply the self-assembly process of particles to the fabrication of inverse opal structures, which improve the fabrication of catalysts and sensors. The process consists of two dip-coating steps. The first one is the production of sacrificial silica particles 1 or 2 µm in diameter. The second one is the fabrication of silver or gold nano-particles. After these processes, silica particles are dissolved to create the inverse opal structure. We demonstrate how changing the diameter of the sacrificial particle varies the size of the pores. Finally, we present how the patterned Ag and Au inverse opal structure can be created using the hydrophobic/hydrophilic patterned substrate.

Nanoparticles can be produced from the proteinaceous materials called gelatin. Gelatin is extracted from collagen of skin, bones, and connective tissues by controlled acidic or basic hydrolysis. This paper focuses on several methods developed for preparing and modifying gelatin nano-particles (GNPs) for delivery of gene and drugs. In general, eight methods are being used for producing GNPs: the coacervation method; the two step desolvation method; the complex coacervation process; the solvent extraction or emulsion process; the nanoprecipitation method; the microemulsion method; the inverse miniemulsion technique and self-assembly method. The problem of being phagocytosized by the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) in the body is among the limitations of native GNPs encounter. The interest was based on the facts that gelatin has been known for its low immunogenicity for many years and is administered intravenously since it is an ingredient of various registered blood substitutes. The advantage offered by the amino acid side-chains of the gelatin matrix molecule is the option of multiple further modifications. Hence, GNPs’ surface modification is typically needed to tackle phagocytosis. Many researchers have reported the gelatin use for anticancer drugs delivery, gene delivery, pulmonary drug delivery, ocular drug delivery and protein delivery.

Ag nano-particles were deposited on the surface of TiO2 self-assembled films by photo-reduction of Ag+ solution. SPM, XPS and UV-Vis spectrophotometer were employed to characterize the microstructure and photo-catalytic performance of the films. An obvious enhancement of photo-catalytic activity had been observed. Since rutile had a lower optical band gap than anatase, a higher photo-catalytic efficiency improvement of rutile than that of anatase was obtained under the help of Ag nano-particles, which acted as electron acceptors.

Bimetallic nanoparticles of silver (Ag) and gold (Au) were synthesized at room temperature using Curcumin. Reduction process of silver and gold ions with different molar ratios leads to production of different nanostructures including alloys and core-shells. Produced nanoparticles were characterized simultaneously with FTIR, UV/vis. spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDAX). UV/vis. optical absorption spectra of as synthesized nanoparticles reveals presence of surface palsmon resonance (SPR) of both silver at (425 nm) and gold at (540 nm) with small shift and broadness of gold band after mixing with resucing and capping agent in natural extract which suggest presence of bimetallic nano structure (Au/Ag). FTIR and EDAX data approve the presence of bimetallic nano structure combined with curcumin extract. TEM micrographs shows that silver and gold can be synthesized separately in the form of nano particles using curcumin extract. Synthesis of gold nano particles in presence of silver effectively enhance and control formation of bi-metallic structure.
